cadian 812th

I believe I've posted the pictures of the conversions somewhere here earlier but can't think of where,

There are two methods i've used, of which I prefer the second one since it looks beter IMO,

First method: cheapest+easiest

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130710_194021_zps9b8e5e75.jpg

-assemble vanquisher per instructions

-cut off the end of the heavy stubber so the main housing remains,
-add the ammo feed,

-attach coaxial heavy stubber next to the main gun.
-add targeter from the mortar to the vanquiser cannon.
-sculpt a blanket that goes over it all. this will hide any weird connections

Second method: a whee bit more expensive, if you don't have the bits left over from your chimeras. You need the heavy bolter turret mounting plate from the chimera kit

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130701_224931_zps33f901d8.jpg

-assemble vanquisher per instructions

-remove the ending of the heavy stubber so the main housing remains

-cutt the chimera heavy bolter turret plate in two parts, attach them on both sides of the vanquisher cannon

-glue the cut down heavy stubber into the slot that normally holds the heavy bolter.

-use some green stuff to make the plating look smoother and attached (not shown on unpainted pictures)

both are relatively easy (and cheap) conversions and require almost no green stuff experience yet make the vanquisher look much better in my opinion.

Not to mention the coaxial heavy stubber rules per IA1 2nd edition make it very interesting to add to the vanquisher anyway!

since the board was offline for a while yesterday here's the missed update, and the new update at the same time!

the missed update:

and the current update:

i was absolutly godsmacked by the fact that the local paintstore not only had plasticard, but also a gazilion of the construction pieces plasticard (T and H beams, tubes etc)! naturally i raided it a little bit thinking of adding a hydra emplacement to the fortress and voila!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130804_183146_zps4c7c6ddf.jpg

not too bad for my first attempt at using plasticard! tonights i'll do the detailing on this one

it's official,

I absolutly HATE imperial design! all those damned tiny rivetheads!

The hydra platform:

and the now textured fortress!

thanks mate! i guess i'll just leave this one as it is and do the other two with stripes. afterall it is the vehicles's crew responsability to camouflage their vehicles. i guess this goofy sentinel pilot got bored and decided to spend a lot of time on the camo!

the sentinel kit rocks! as a matter of fact, i think it's the best imperial guard vehicle kit out there(standard range), it's just so much fun to build will all those poses. in comparison building a leman russ/earthshaker/manticore/hellhound is rather boring!

Edit:

I forgot to metnio, tomorrow i'm hosting a big apocalypse game in which my cadian 812th will join forces with a nurgle force in a combined assault upon a shrine of the aquila.

I'll try to make some pictures, although, with my second in command officer dropping out i'll be rather busy moving around +-7-8K of imperial guard!teehee.gif

Yeah, it's a real joy to assemble and paint. I was in GW yesterday talking around the new SM rumours (as they couldn't acknowledge anything directly :P ) and every time I saw the Sentinel box I had to fight my wallet trying to leap from my pocked

I've got 4 already and I can't help but feel I need more. If the new Apoc collections weren't such a complete joke I'd probably have purchased the Talon formation.

How is your repaint coming along in general hendrik? Do you have a rough estimate of your percentage of completion so far?

the progress of repaint is going terribly, terribly slow! given the discovery that my local store sells plasticard i've found myself mostly working on that+since the weather is nice again i usually try to spend my days on horseback instead of in my warm room!

So far I've got about 7-8K of guard (including my new fortress) of which i've now painted:

-1 leman russ

-1leman russ vanquisher

-1 chimera

-1 sentinel

-25-ish guardsmen

and the non repainted imperial navy elements:

-a thunderbolt fighter

-2 vendettas

so let's say i'm not even near the 5%! :p

rulewise the new sentinel formations are pretty much a joke too.

Given how easy it is to use 2 force org charts with guardsmen i really hope they make the sentinels a more attractive choice in the next codex, whenever that one comes out!

Agreed, Sentinels are pretty good if you know how to use them but by no means amazing. They've got to compete with the infamous Hellhound variants after all! Working as part of an aggressive force they do well, especially outflanking and running in support of infantry depending on their armour value.

As to your herculean task of repainting... I think it gave me flashbacks to when I foolishly decided to repaint both my Marines and Guard at the same time a few years ago! Needless to say I'm pretty much done now aside from a few models needing repair or that I don't use :)

So I feel your pain but as someone at the other side of the quest I can tell you that it's all worth it biggrin.png Keep up the good work, I look forward to one day seeing the last repainted model being posted up thumbsup.gif

todays apocalypse game was a great succes! all the local players loved the new board and terrain and we had a great game all in all, although, more towards the end, fatigue started to hit the loyalist players.

As mentioned before I was fighting on the chaos side during the assault on the loyalist fortress and after the battle almost every player aggreed the real killing machine in the game were my artillery units.

We played on an 8 foot deep table, with the walls on the imperial fort spanning the whole table (a mere 48")

here's a picture of the initial deployment:

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130819_110731_zps03fa7968.jpg

not a lot of imperial units you say? well that's because behind that wall a ton of bloodangel terminators/paladins were hiding, alongside an entire space marine battle company!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130819_120407_zps1be40681.jpg

our lascannons quickly turned the fortress wals into nothing more then craters though, leaving that loyalist scum nowhere to hide for papa nurgle!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130819_142407_zpse6e3c60c.jpg

In the following turn We used our strategic assets (on my coordinates and tunnelrats) to precisly deploy most of my infantry straight into his rear, together with about 20 nurgle terminators+abbadon

By doing this we hoped to trap our opponents between the two forces, however, a quick response of combiflamer-artificer honour guard and a blood talon dreadnought quickly saw my imperial guard massacred. The temrinators and abbadon however more then held their own, allowing me to blast away at the rest of my opponents army.

2 turns later we succesfully tabled the entire loyalist army, a first timer for me, to not alone play out an entire game of apoc but also table about 9K!

i'm failing terribly at getting my troops painted!!!

well, in a way though these ARE my troops, since i play an armoured battalion!

here's the newest paintjob, fresh of the line!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/IMG_20130824_214124_zpsc261ecb2.jpg

crappy pictures, but they serve their cause.

Now this paint sheme is slightly different though! that is because i decided to try my hand at the german dessert camo paintspray, instead of undercoating my tanks in black. As a result I only have to paint the green and brown camouflage+ detailing, saving me some time.

I can now also say all my other tanks are already undercoated in the german dessert camo so I should be able to get more of these bad boys painted up soon!

I hear ya!

I'm having the same issues...

Wanting to paint my tanks and guardsmen , but just not seeing the time to do it
