Brother Duncs Codex workshop, formerly 'W.I.P Ultramarines'

Hiya everybody. I've been away from the hobby for a while and haven't really been feeling the love for 40k that I used to. But today I am going to try and rectify that by starting a little Ultramarines log. I painted up a test marine I can use as a sergeant and I'm just about to basecoat my Force Commander (an old metal Honour Guard model). Not sure how often I'll get this updated but I'll certainly try making it last longer than the Blood Ravens log. whistlingW.gif

Anyway on to the model itself. Nothing fancy a few bits from the command sprue and the Death Company box and he was built. I've gone for a slightly grittier tone for the model than GW. So there's blood splatter across the chest and the sword. I've also added chipping to the armour. I'm going to finish up the base today and hopefully I'll post up the completed results tonight.

Did a bit more work on him. Needs some tidying up on the pouches and I think he'll be done.

Hi y'all, I've got some updates to share. Just to prove to myself I can keep this going, I've been working on this for the past week. I'm almost finished with him, just need some highlights on the backpack and the gun needs tidy and a drilling. Anyway I present you with my Force Commander.

I think I'm going to go with a desert theme for the base, much like the sarge up top. But big question for you fine people. Do I go ahead and weather this guy like the sarge or leave as is?

Cheers for looking

Unless he's just made his first appearance on the battlefield from his Thunderhawk or pod, I say weather the Commander as well. I'm a fan of what you accomplished on the Sergeant, it looks great.

What's next?

Cheers for the feedback definitely want to get some blood on the axe and some armour chipping, just worried about overdoing it and obscuring the model. Next on the list is a tactical marine to go with the sarge then a Dettol bath for a load of old minis who need to feel loved again I think. : D

Hiya, long time no post. I have been really tied up with real life stuff recently so my painting has sadly fallen by the wayside. However, I have recently begun to brush to model again and the Ultramarines are slowly growing as a force. So to give some proof I thought I'd throw up a picture.

Hello again, I bring more updates.

I've nearly completed my first combat squad of Ultramarines. I've weathered them a bit and given the melee fighters a bit of the red stuff. I wanted to get across the brutality of the Astartes, so once they get into hand to hand combat they're getting they're hands dirty. Hope you enjoy and please, any comments or crits are very welcome.

Hello all, I've been working on a Sternguard Vet. on and off recently, I still have a bit to do on him : the chapter badge, drilling out the barrel basing and all that fun stuff. Quite pleased with how he turned out considering he was a quick kitbash. Any way here he is.

And here's what I have amassed so far. Absolutely nothing I can play with, but they look like they're having fun.

As always c&c appreciated.

Hiya, all, I've been working on this guy a bit today. He's one of those Apocalypse release captains but with a few minor alterations. I liked the pose but I didn't think that the Jump Pack or the head worked. I wanted to try and convey some of the weight of an astartes so, with a back pack swap and an old Iron Warriors helmet he becomes Captain Badass stalking the battlefield rather than Tippy-toe Annie. : ) I also gave him the trophy rack on his backpack because it gives him a slightly menacing appearance. I want my Space Marines to be feared by mortals who dare look upon them.

There's still a lot to do on him but progress is moving along swiftly so hopefully tomorrow he'll be finished.

Cheers mate, the blues pretty simple. I put on a base of Macragge blue, wash with Drakenhof Nightshade then clean up with more Macragge Blue. Then a use Altdorf Guard Blue as a layer colour and use Calgar Blue for highlights. Finally I mix a 50/50 of Calgar Blue and Ulthuan Grey for the tops of the highlight.

Cheers,

Rob
