Wow looking good! I hear you on the down mood i'm trying to get back into converting after not touching a mini in 9 months. Love what you have done so far. Its your work that is making me dust off the remains of my Black Dragons to start working on them again after 5 years.

Sorry, sill haven't gotten around to painting.

Working on a count-as Vulkan He'Stan:
I gave him Modified Mk8 Errant armor, and tried to do some truescaling.

His design is based on the dragoon class in final fantasy.

not sure what details i should add on the right arm and shoulder, any suggestions would be appreciated.

And I also need some suggestions on what to do for the bases on these, im having a hard time figuring out a theme, desert? swamp? wasteland?

never did bases before either, not sure the best way to go about doing it.

That's some wicked conversion work you have there sir! I love the dread and vulkan. Can't say that I like the idea of a bare armed terminator, but that's down to tastes. As for basing, why not a ruined city?

The right arm looked plain so i experimented with adding spikes on the forearms, legs, and shoulder (not bone spikes, just batman-forearms type spikes) to sorta look like a dragon's back, but im not fully sold on the shoulder spikes.

I think they might distract from the head-wings, and those are more important, i just didn't like seeing plain shoulders on a high-ranking guy. thoughts?

Just wanted to say this looks great. I love this chapter's look and feel.  Also as a side note.  I have quite a bit of experience casting my own shoulder pads with two part resin if you need a little help there just message me.

Good stuff in this thread, the dreadnought flamer is my personal favorite though- it radiates awesome.

I vote swamp. I've never seen a swamp based army, and it would certainly contribute to the uniqueness of this force.

I really like the direction you're going into

Maybe because I live in China anything dragon looks cool

Really like the character. I kinda prefer without the extra spikes

He looks a litle manga style that is quite refreshing

solid execution on the green stuff

the gauntlet flamer is a brilliant idea

Hey, I painted a guy! (finally)

Here is Brother Raphael, I really liked the black templars black painting reference that was linked earlier in this thread, but I thought it looked over highlighted and looked a little like grey templars, I tried my best to keep this guy "black", I also attempted to make the eyes, and other lights glow. guides I saw online seemed to really overdo it, and I tried to keep it subtle. Also the push moulds I made for the custom shoulder seemed to would out great. I think I did pretty good for my first guy.

I also did this nameless marine to test out an "alternate" black, instead of just painting with greys I used a dark teal/blue to keep it more saturated.

here is a comparison between the greyblack and the blueblack, I think I'm leaning toward the grey black.

The blueblack almost looks Alpha Legion-y. Im not sure what color to paint the crux terminatus or the little cables (like on his feet), also as you can see still haven't decided on basing, I was thinking of using that new dry cracked earth paint from GW and set them in a dusty dead wasteland.

Thoughts?

I was so scared to paint them, I made the mistake of using tap water to thin the paints, appearance that's a no-no, we'll see if I get better results with distilled water, also I want to try out vallejo paints.

again, sorry about how crappy the phone photos are.
