Furioso and Venerable/Ironclad compatibility?

Recommended Posts

So I have two Furioso boxes now, that I'm planning to make up into Fragiosos for my BA force.

I've never had any *plastic* SM dreadnought of any type, so I'm not so sure how they all go together, and looking at the sprues can only get me so far.

What I would like to know is: is there any chance I can use the torso from a regular Venerable or Ironclad dreadnought with the Furioso?

I'm not a fan of the Furioso torso (not a fan of the crossed bones with the blood drop), I'd much rather have the nice sarcophagus part with the cupola and veteran helmet behind it, or the cool armour from the Ironclad. It fits fluff-wise, since the Furiosos are supposed to be venerable anyway. I notice that the front of the Venerable torso comes in a few parts, where the Furioso is only one contiguous piece.

For any Venerable owners, I'd also be interested in how the torso goes together when you don't want the list of battles on either side of the sarcophagus - do you use the appliqué plates to cover that up?

What of the Ironclad (if anyone has one)?

I'd imagine that the front plate of all the plastic dreadnoughts do fit together (those being the only differences in the torso that I know of)

The Venerable Dreadnoughts' front plate does have a variety of options to kit it out, which is where the extra plates come in. They're made to cover a specific side, so a plate that fits on the left side won't fit on the right.

Basically, you've got the main piece, then about 4 torso covers (2 come with hatches if you don't want a helmeted look also comes with 2 helmets) Then you've got about 4-5 plates that go on either side of that.

The Ironclad's got some nice armor as well, the only extra bits being the assault launchers. I'd imagine that those could (in theory) fit over a Ven. Dread's extra plates if you use the smooth ones

Thanks for the info on the front plates, confirms what I suspected. The assault launchers are a definite 'no', but I am a big fan of the armour plated look that it has by default.

I know people often hit the bits sites for the venerable helmets to use on veterans, so they're harder to find. Are they just the same size as regular marine helmets? If that were the case, I could maybe get away with using some BA themed helmets from the DC or SG box. :)

I've been poring over pictures of the various sprues, and the only part that seems like it could cause an issue is the pelvis, with different parts sticking out under the left and right torso sections. What do you think?

Great. One of the Death Company helmets is very similar to the dreadnought one, with the vertical slits, except it has nice, fluffy blood drops on it too. :)

I wonder if I shouldn't just buy two Ven. Dreadnought boxes, use the nice ornate parts for the Furiosos, and use the Furiosos I have, plus the plainer bits from the Ven. boxes to make regular heavy support dreads. That way I could use the awesome DCCWs from the Ven. as blood fists. :D

Actually, the Venerable torsos have a slightly different construction from the Ironclad/Furioso/normal Dreadnought torsos, but that just means you'll be using the whole torso rather than just swapping front plates (which will have the same end result, since the details on the torsos are pretty much the same other than the front plate).

@Disruptor_fe404

Thanks for the reply.

I've also noticed slight differences with how the front plates are moulded. What I'm going to do is build my Furiosos with full Venerable upper bodies, with the nice helmeted sarcophagus, and use a mix of Furioso and Venerable parts for the legs and arms (which appear to all be similar enough).

You get so much in both kits, I think it might be possible to build another (DC or Librarian) dread just from spare parts + a few ebayed bits.
