Hey, so I have some sisters sitting around my house, haven't done anything with them in awhile. I'm bored with my Orks, and my Sons of Medusa are sitting around waiting for their new codex next month, so I don't really know what to do with them at the moment. Thought I'd pull these girls out and throw some paint on them in the meantime! Who knows where it will go.

Currently thinking I want to get the white of the armour done on 30-40 of them by the end of next week, about 30 battle sisters and 10 seraphim. Got some stripping to do first though, we'll see how that plan pans out! Anyway, here are some pictures of this weeks accomplishments. Nothing's finished as of yet, still plenty of touching up and detail work to go on all of them. Only ten have made it past the "white armour" stage so far anyhow.

Let me know what you think! Painting white armour straight sucks so I would like any guidance/thought people may have on the matter.

Bad phone-camera shot of the last  9 bolter babes with white armour:

Couple shots of the first batch, showing the red robes on the back:

And finally a shot all together, with some other basecoated girls hanging out in back:

Sorry for the bad pictures, using my super-old BB phone because the Nikon was requisitioned for some other stuff at the time. Hopefully they'll be better in the future.

They look great, your white is fine :) If you want to improve it though building up with thinner paint is the way to go but as you'd expect is is quite time consuming and tedious.

Nice to see the Sacred Rose colour scheme and I like the bases too - simple yet effective. I look forward to seeing more :D

Thanks! I was originally going to do the more labourious building up process with the white, but it took me about an hour per sister, I found. So, uh, no thanks. I would have gotten tired of the slow progress after about 2-3 models. So I tried cutting straight to the white after a grey undercoat/black ink wash, and it cut the time by more than half for the results you see here.

I'm a big fan of sisters with white and red. Sacred Rose was the only way to go!

Same as mine smile.png Though I may start a different colour scheme on the new plastics when we get them since I really like my DIYs. As for white, Ceramic White as a base paint works wonders for white as it does most of the work for you so you don't have to do as many layers on top (White Scar is it called now?) or worry about slipping as much.

I assume you're planning on adding some Rhinos to your army at some point? How did you do the black lining by the way, it looks good and is something I've always struggled with. In fact, just give me a run down of how you paint the lot if it's not too much trouble tongue.png

Haha okay no problem! I use mostly generic paint equivalents but I think I know the colour names for GW, I'll try. For the armour I just start with priming them grey, I think Codex Grey would be about right for the basecoat. Then, the way I've done it for most of them, I give the armour a black ink wash straight from the can, and after that I just paint on the white! Really fairly simple and I do like the stark lines I've managed. I use a really small detail brush for the white and just take my time with it going over each segment of the armour. Pretty time consuming, but it's a lot less now that I've cut out a lot of the middle steps.

Definitely adding vehicles at some point. Right now I've got 2 Exorcists I've converted up, looking at a third, and I want to do 3-4 Repressors as well when I've the money for them. Beyond that, I want to make a nice "churched up" Storm Raven for a "GK" allied detachment, using the Chapterhouse extension kit, FW SoB Rhino doors and detail bits, and the wings and bits from the DA Dark Talon. This might all be well down the road though, not sure. Money/time/energy all that sort of stuff.

I haven't thought too hard about how I'm going to paint the broad flat spaces of all the vehicles yet, so any advice/pointers/inspiration is welcome!

Turns out Repressors are really easy to convert.

Cut a block of foamcore about 1cm thick to the shape of the top of a Rhino's top plate (looking at one should make what I mean obvious), then slant the front. Clad it except the bottom with plasticard, and make a cowling for the Rhino's storm bolter. Decorate the top of the foamcore box to look like the top of a tank with various bits and pieces from the Rhino kit, and squash it down onto the top of the Rhino - the antennae on the Rhino will hold it in place if you don't want to glue it (for example, to be able to use the rhino as a rhino) as long as you don't try to pick it up by the coach roof. Make the heavy flamer cupola from whatever bits you have to hand that look the part, and all you have to worry about is the dozer blade. I made mine by cutting plasticard to roughly the right shapes (A wide rectangle for the back, a narrow rectangle for the bottom, then five trapezoids for the struts), glue it into place, decorate with the Immolator's front spikes then work out how you want to attach it to the front of the Rhino. I used the fuel tank from an Immolator's heavy flamer cut in half, then magnetized.

So today was an easy day, just stripping a lot of my sisters. (Err. Well, that sounds a little weird.)

Purple hands.

Should have everything cleaned up and primed tomorrow, then painting can start anew on Monday!

Also, while I'm at it, here's one of my Exorcists all built up and ready for paint, whenever I get around to it. The second is mostly done too but had to wait for me to strip the metal bits. I used the missile launchers from Puppets War because I don't really like the organ gun nonsense, but I wanted to keep a lot of the churchy feel of the model and not go all the way to the FW end (theirs really just looks like a regular whirlwind to me, and putting a fleur on the doors just doesn't cut it in my mind!).

One thing that occurs to me, maybe I should think about a way to put some speakers/laud-hailers on the front somewhere. The front girl is playing the keys but there needs to be, I think, something to amplify the sound, otherwise it doesn't make much sense. Thoughts/ideas?

Why not use the laud hailers from the Immolator kit? I notice you have at least one Immo partially unused.

Other options include an array of vertical pipes like organ pipes coming out of the top of the hull somewhere, or a pair of big speakers on the roof.

Thanks Miko, that looks really great. Now you've got me thinking on making one. So...one rhino kit coming up.

That is a good conversion Chrysaor  and as Miko said, the hailers from the kit would look good on the front. When the exorcist first came out, I also didn't like it. I made my first one whth a whirlwind kit and added some plasti card around the launchers to change the look. However now I own 3 of the, I can chunk this big piece of metal kits if you hack me off, and have grown to like them, some for the look and some for the weight. I mean heavier than a land raider, it just feels meaner.

I've got a couple Immolator sprues around here somewhere, that's an excellent idea! Just have to find 'em.... :P  Maybe I'll do some work on that today and see what I like.

Thanks for the compliment Dread!

And here's what the stuff looked like on my table a couple days ago while it languished in lazyville:

That's a box of Celestine/Seraphim top right, the 2 exorcists, 41 sisters of various sorts and Jacobus. Here's hoping I can keep myself going for a while longer!
