Congratulations mate glad to hear you came first for the dark gods

Thanks buddy! Felt really nice to win with a unique Chaos army in the face of all the "top meta" lists from other armies.

everythign about this army is awesome, why the exlated reward on one of the heralds? wouldnt it be better to get the summonign re roll dice on the fire raptor?

Thanks for the compliments! The exalted reward is to throw out a Portalgrlyph - every turn I have a 50% chance for a free warp charge from a unit of horrors (plus summoned heralds from Sacrifice can join the unit, so I can cast more powers in duplicate from having multiple units of horrors each with 1-2 Heralds in them). It's pretty good for 30 points. Also, the summoning re-roll would be really bad on the fire raptor because 1) I need the summoning aura of 12" to stay in one place in my backfield to be in range of casters, and the fire raptor moves around as a flier, plus 2) the flier starts in reserves. Also 3) the fire raptor will be a priority target whereas most people ignore the rhino hidden in the back.

good reasoning heh, personally i would summon hearled with exalted gifts... to get mreo portal glyphs to summon mroe guys

A lot of tournaments won't let you do that because they argue it's a unique thing and maybe only 1 exists. I think you get diminishing returns on it anyway; it's only a 4+ to spawn. I would rather get the extra psyker level (and maybe then cast Possession the next turn).

  • 2 weeks later...

No updates for a while! Basically, it's finals, I am graduating, I am moving, my family has a wedding, and I am trying to get in shape! Busy busy! No time for sculpting even sadly.

But I am taking a break tomorrow to go back to another 1850 tournament at the store where I got first place last month! This time there is no painting requirement so I can take the top prize support! We will see if I get lucky twice. I am taking the same list. I have a brand new phone, so I can take pics this time!

Here is the other update: I got two new items (below) that I wanted really badly for my little Black Library of Chaos collection I posted earlier in this thread. Very excited to add these two!! Now I only need two more items to have literally the complete, penultimate Chaos collection....can you guess what's arriving in the mail for me the next two weeks?  Once I have every single book in my dirty hands and in one place with all the moving, I will post a new picture and a complete list of all the items.

Back from the event! A much smaller amount of people this time, but still great prize support from an awesome store. Was happy to hang out and play three awesome games with three great guys. Once again I played my wacky "triple chaos" list I designed to merge my previous summoning army with my previous renegades army.

This time I have pictures because I replaced my dead phone! Still learning how to use the new camera though.

Hexfleet Virules Tournament Report: San Antonio, TX (May 10, 2015)

Background: The same great San Antonio store had an 1850 tournament to kick off it's local competitive league. No painting or sportsmanship score, though everyone seemed to be excellent sports all around. Sadly not as many people could come out as usual thanks to Mother's Day and another big event in town the day before (and the upcoming week- this store agreed to hold Alamo GT, a big Texas event, on short notice this upcoming weekend).

Format: 1850 points with ITC format for army selection and missions (1 modified ITC maelstrom and 1 eternal war mission per round). Max 11 points per round.

List: Hexfleet Virules 1850 Triple Chaos - "Of Guns and Daemons" (same as last tournament)

Results: Game 1 - Versus IG + Knight. He had 1 wyvern, a giant platoon blob, 2 demolishers, a leman russ, 1 company command in chimera, 1 platoon command in chimera, 2 veterans squads in chimeras, 1 vendetta, and 1 Knight with the melta large blast and gatling cannon.

Mission was ITC Mission 6: Dawn of War, each person placed the #1 objective in their deployment zone and #2 18" from their board edge. These were the Maelstrom. All 4 total objectives counted for Crusade.

I won the roll to go first. For most of the game I kept him on his side of the table and just moved up with zombies and summoned daemonettes. I rotated off shaking and stunning as much of his armored firepower as I could, with my rapiers doing quite well. Unfortunately I had to ignore the Knight turn 1 to hit all the other stuff. However, the 4 wyverns did kill the entire guard blob before he ever got to move it (he didn't spread as much as he should have because the Knight and Demolishers blocked him in).

http://i.imgur.com/UtqKIaU.jpg?1

He moved the Knight up aggressively, which was fine for me because I was going to tarpit it with the zombies I had going right at him. However, in turn 2 I did get the chance to use 6 of my 12 rapiers on him, though I only managed to take off 2 Hull Points...

http://i.imgur.com/njtE8zK.jpg?1

...but then I fired my fire raptor, which I had brought in on the flank to try for lucky side shots with str 7 versus AV 12. I rolled an amazing 5, 5, 6, 6 and killed all 4 remaining hull points off the side! And did damage to two other vehicles with the other guns. Clearly Papa Nurgle is happy with the work in progress conversion on that fire raptor.

By the end of turn 4, I had killed off the two wounded demolishers with the fire raptor shooting into their rear armor while summoned screamers took out the rest of the chimeras. In turn 5, all he had left was the vendetta, which he put into hover mode to try to kill a unit. Then I killed it off with rapiers.

Game 2 - Versus Sisters + Grey Knights + Knight. He brought 3 immolators with 5-woman sister squads with anti-psyker crossbows, saint celestine with 5 seraphim, 2 exorcists, 1 empty twin linked lascannon razorback, a terminator librarian with 5 grey knight normal troopers, 5 grey knight terminators, and 1 knight with a D chainsword and the battlecannon arm.

http://i.imgur.com/WUXidKv.jpg?1

Mission was ITC Mission 1: Dawn of War, each person placed one maelstrom objective outside their deployment zone + one Emperor's Will inside the deployment zone.

http://i.imgur.com/dHujlr7.jpg?1

He chose to Deep Strike Reserve saint celestine and her bodyguard + the 5 terminators. I got very lucky this game - I seized the initiative, then kicked the heck out of the Knight with 6 rapiers firing into it. I blew it up, and it scattered exactly on top of the terminator librarian and 5 grey knights hiding on top of an objective in the ruins, killing them with the D explosion. I summoned 6 screamers to grab the objective just outside his deployment zone (what I rolled for that turn) and to block his transports from reaching the one just outside my deployment, which was what I rolled.

http://i.imgur.com/N9z5Vbj.jpg?1

At this point he had no choice but to drive his whole army at me to grab objectives. He was smart and parked one immolator right on top of the objective. I killed it with shooting, then assaulted the sisters with zombies, screamers, and daemonettes. I also blew up the other immolator and then killed the sisters with wyverns when they got out.

The fire raptor came on and failed to hurt much. He brought in saint celestine behind my lines and the terminators nearby on my flank. I killed 1 terminator with shooting, but failed to do much to the seraphim thanks to a 2+ saint celestine armor save. I then charged the 4 terminators with 20 zombies.

Zombies win combat 3 dead grey knight terminators to 1 dead zombie! Munch munch! The surviving terminator ran off before he lost his brains. By end of turn 4 we called it because he was about to be tabled and I was far in the lead on all scoring metrics.

Game 3 - Versus IG + Knight. He brought the gatling knight, 1 vulture, 2 vendettas (one with 1 colexus assassin inside, the other with veterans), 1 company command in a chimera, 2 troop squads in tauroxes, 1 giant infantry blob, 1 skyshield, 1 wyvern.

Mission was ITC Mission 4: Hammer and Anvil, each person placed 3 scouring objectives that also counted as maelstrom objectives for both players. Scouring was only your 3 objectives, and at game's end you got 1 scouring point for the one in your deployment, 2 for the one in midfield, and 3 for the one in the opponent's deployment.

http://i.imgur.com/NfyKpFH.jpg?1

This game was very wacky and required me to adapt. He got to go first, and he got the IG d3 units outflank ability. Very scary - apparently it allows you to do it with any unit, so he outflanked the knight on me, which threw off all my plans. he also outflanked a chimera command with lots of plasmas. Worse, he reserved almost everything but the tauroxes out of range of everything (he didn't try for maelstrom the first few turns), and the vulture and wyvern started on the skyshield. I failed to seize despite a 4+ to do so, and he moved everything out of range right away.

http://i.imgur.com/dgHrPxi.jpg?1

Bottom of turn 1 I moved up to grab objectives with summoned units and zombies, and I tried to line my edges to discourage outflanking. I immobilized the vulture in hover mode with my quadgun.

http://i.imgur.com/R4T8asF.jpg?1

He was very smart and surprised me by super heavy blitzing my zombies and some of my rapiers. Luckily I just lost a few zombies, and the guns did little to my artillery (though he did kill off a wyvern on the other side of my flanks). His chimera came in on the other end on top of his #2 objective. It was objective secured so I had to do something. Shooting killed the second wyvern in the flank edge squad. He made every single reserve roll except he forgot to bring on his guard blob. He brought 1 vendetta with the anti-psyker assassin all the way to my deployment and got in range of both horror squads and 2 heralds to keep me from getting charges on my turn (12" from the vendetta hull for the aura....).

http://i.imgur.com/AwgtJ04.jpg?1

I kept calm, withered the reserve storm, and then killed the knight with 12 rapier shots, then used my fire raptor to finish off the assassin vendetta that had already lost 1 HP from the quadgun intercept. The assassin died when the flier went down, I blew up the outflanking command chimera and ultimately killed the guys inside with summoned daemonettes. I had a keeper of secrets there nearby JUST IN CASE!

http://i.imgur.com/kuHhLHt.jpg?1

The screamers finished off the immobilized vulture way in his back field.

http://i.imgur.com/i6bsasB.jpg?1

http://i.imgur.com/ntYtUis.jpg?1

At this point he had nothing left but a taurox and a guard blob slowly trying to make their way to even the skyshield objective in his deployment zone, and he had a taurox with squad on top of my #3 in his ruins. However, I had killed everything else and I had screamers and daemonettes ready to kill the stuff in the ruins of my shooting didn't finish it. I was way ahead on everything and it was clear I would win, so we called it by end of turn 4.

Tournament Results: 33/33 ITC mission points, 1st Place

Was very happy to have the top finish by mission performance at this store two 1850 tournaments in a row...last time with 59/60, this time with 33/33 using the normal ITC mission scoring. Last time I grabbed a Daemons army box with my prize winnings, this time I paid for most of a new bloodthirster.

Papa Nurgle was pleased this day! Knights are no match for the glory of Chaos!

Comments and feedback appreciated!

Awesome report, be sure to keep the standard for your next tournaments and battles, I enjoyed the read. Especially with photos this time around, even though you desperately need some paint on those nice models. ;)

Did I miss some close-ups of your fire raptor somewhere or are you waiting on finishing the conversion before posting?

Yeah, I can't wait until I have everything painted! I think about it almost every day. I am getting them commission painted next year when all the building, converting, and sculpting is done...by GMM Studios, which should look amazing.

I think I need more Rapier Destroyer Batteries - top notch victory!

They are super. Chaos is really weak with lack of shooting, so renegades much up for that. It just stinks that 36" range is so short (really hurts on Hammer and Anvil) and that ordnance can't shoot at fliers. I wish I could give my rapiers skyfire.

Nice, cool to see a chaos player doing well against Kinghts, especially funny seeing the zombies winning against some terminators

Zombies eating grey knight terminators was really funny. I wish I had killed the last guy so I could have turned them into d3 zombies. And yeah, I hate Knights, felt good to blow up one per game!

Yessssss spread the blessings of Nurgle!

The guy running the tournament actually told me the other people who were high in the standings were asking to be matched with me if possible because they had never seen an army with all 3 factions and wanted to practice against a tough and novel army!

Nurgle-aligned renegades, led by Tzeenchian sorcerer, who summons Slaaneshi deamons?

I know it's a tournament and all, but way to crap all over the background.

In the future it would probably be good to get more information on a topic before commenting on it, because otherwise you risk sticking your foot in your mouth exactly like you did in this post here.

First, the army list wasn't led by Tzeentch anything. If you get yourself a copy of IA:13 or IA: Vraks you'll see that you need to have a renegade demagogue as the warlord to have the army-wide benefits and force org changes. This list was led by the ordnance titan. If you were talking about the entire Hexfleet collection in general, you could clearly see from the name of the thread and all the posts in it that the entire broad army is led by a nurgle sorcerer named Virules, who is the one who slowly cobbled together the chaos marines, the human elements, and the chaos daemons of all four varieties.

Second, every element and model in this collection has its place based on carefully developed fluff - much of which has already been posted in this thread, some of which I am keeping in reserve until more models are finished. This includes background detailing how the slaanesh, tzeentch, and khorne elements are tied in to the overall nurgle force. Both the models as well as the eventual paint scheme reflect this history. In fact, I am building the khorne stuff and having it painted even though I will probably never ever use them on the table, simply because they are a part of the overall fluff background in the collection.

In other news...

10,000 thread views!!!

What a great honor for my little army log, just a bit over a year and a half into it. Thanks to everyone who has viewed and commented on my ongoing passion project!

Don't think I've posted here (don't post on bnc much tbh), but this thread... wow! seriously man this is awesome work. I'm loving the fluff and thoughts that go into each unit and ties the army together as a cohesive force! Will be keeping track on this thread for certain!

Great stuff mate, i'm really digging it. As someone who's entered the realm of the renegade and the daemon i am now looking closely at what you've done. With a few tweeks it could really be a fun list to play.

-skrall

Thanks everyone!

Meanwhile, another addition to the collection!

Pffffft show off :tongue.:

I am so envious of your literature collection, it is amazing I would of loved to get hold of them limited editions (hoping they go a limted edition if Nurgle ever gets his own dex)
