Lagrath
Don't think I've posted here (don't post on bnc much tbh), but this thread... wow! seriously man this is awesome work. I'm loving the fluff and thoughts that go into each unit and ties the army together as a cohesive force! Will be keeping track on this thread for certain! Great stuff mate, i'm really digging it. As someone who's entered the realm of the renegade and the daemon i am now looking closely at what you've done. With a few tweeks it could really be a fun list to play. -skrall Thanks! I have so much exciting stuff planned over the next year and a half. I might even start my own website. I am thinking video battle reports with fully painted armies and terrain and tables, articles about fluff, more short stories about the Hexfleet, more tournament reports, more conversions... But first I have to survive, haha. In the last month I have taken finals, helped with my sister's wedding, spent time with relatives, moved cities, and more. Now I am neck-deep in studying for the July bar exam. Hopefully I can find time for 40k even prior to my nice vacation in August. I do have this to show...I think I got the last piece in my book collection barring Blood Oath from Warhammer World. I was disapointed when I got it to see that it had a tip in the top left of the front cover and was generally not as good condition as the rest of my stuff, but I got it on eBay for $82 and now they are refunding me half of that because the condition was worse than sold. So a $41 Liber Choatica Vol. V is a pretty great deal even with the little rip! http://i.imgur.com/nWhFBkR.jpg?2 Kythnos and chaplainmikey 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279118-hexfleet-virules-nurgle-csm-daemons-and-rh/page/5/#findComment-4063727 Share on other sites
Slaanbull
That is a great price! Holy :cuss. I love that book, mine is really battered and I was a bit sad that I hadn't taken better care of it, but then again I read it through like a madman at the age of 15 or 16, back when I didn't know to take proper care of it. I still have the book, and it is readable, so that and the memories aren't going anywhere. congratulations on your purchase and the collection Lagrath. :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279118-hexfleet-virules-nurgle-csm-daemons-and-rh/page/5/#findComment-4063840 Share on other sites

Lagrath
Just a heads up - since I share a lot of pics, news, etc. for Hexfleet Virules on social media, I decided to finally make a Facebook Page for it. I'll still be posting a lot of the stuff here on the B&C, but it may be easier for me to share certain things online via my phone, since B&C posts take more time and require uploading to Imgur first. The Page will also let me share things from other 40k groups or artists, including people I have paid to commission things for the Hexfleet. If you have a Facebook account, please "Like" the page! It may also be easier to navigate picture albums here than on this thread, which will only get longer in the future. http://www.facebook.com/hexfleetvirules Edited June 9, 2015 by Lagrath Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279118-hexfleet-virules-nurgle-csm-daemons-and-rh/page/5/#findComment-4078943 Share on other sites
Lagrath
Update: I'm busy studying for the bar exam all of June and July, so sadly I'll probably continue to have little progress on my models. HOWEVER- I have not been idle. I found a company (well, a guy) called Wargame Terrain Factory who made really cool custom terrain. I ordered myself 3 sets - Ice World, Chaos Jungle, and a City Ruins. The City Ruins was cut to my specifications to work with the City Fight FAT Mat that is now so popular all over the country. Once this stuff arrives from abroad in a few weeks, I will set up my special new gaming table (more on that later when I have everything together), my FAT Mats, and my sexy new terrain. It should make for an amazing table for games and displays. Sneak peak of the awesome terrain: http://i.imgur.com/JfG1k1X.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZGOzFGP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TNwR9ZO.jpg Kythnos, Pearson73, Carrack and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279118-hexfleet-virules-nurgle-csm-daemons-and-rh/page/5/#findComment-4085180 Share on other sites

Lagrath
Taking a break from my usual Chaos to return to my 16 year-old loyalist Storm Reaver chapter! Still using my Chaos dice bag though - the taint of heresy can never be cleansed. (Some day when both armies are painted I will do a Storm Reavers versus Hexfleet narrative campaign, bwahahahaha....) I thought this would be a good way to see how worried I should be about the new Space Marines when I play my Hexfleet in the future. I am also hoping it will give me some idea of how they want to redo the two Chaos codexes when time comes to add formations, so I created a list that takes full advantage of the new SM formations. Boy does the inclusion of formations add kick to an old book it turns out! That makes me optimistic for CSM. I opened up my new Limited Edition Successor Chapter codex and played with a a Gladius full Company with an Anti-air Defense Force versus a very elite and sturdy Deathwing army (Belial, Terminator Librarian, 4 five-man Deathwing Terminator squads, and 2 Caestus Assault Rams). It was amazing - this brought me back to when I was a kid and I always imagined the humble Space Marine basic units winning a firefight by moving strategically around the battlefield and using the right moves at the right time. I think people will be really shocked when see they how effective the 4x Doctrines from a Gladius + Demi-company can be in a smart list (affects EVERYTHING even if the SM player isn't running Ultramarines...). My 1850 Imperial Fists successor list: [Company]HQLysanderChaplain Elites1x ironclad, chainfist with meltagun, powerfist with heavy flamer1x drop pod Troops7x tactical marines, meltagun, combi-melta1x drop pod10x tactical marines, meltagun, combi-melta1x drop pod10x tactical marines, meltagun, combi-melta1x drop pod5x tactical marines, flamer1x razorback, twin-linked heavy bolter5x tactical marines, heavy bolter1x razorback, twin-linked heavy bolter5x tactical marines, heavy bolter1x razorback, twin-linked heavy bolter Fast Attack5x assault marines, 2 flamers5x assault marines, 2 flamers Heavy Support5x devestators, 4 missile launchers1x razorback, twin-linked lascannon5x devestators, 4 missile launchers1x razorback, twin-linked lascannon [Anti-air Defense Force]1x Hunter2x Stalkers (One of his Rams was just a flier stand due to being under construction, and likewise I had to use three rhinos for Razorbacks and a Whirlwind for my Hunter until I remodel them). Chaos be warned - everyone who complained about nothing but White Scars got their wish...you will still see bikes, but now you will also see a ton of Ultramarines, Iron Hands, and Imperial Fists using all the old models you haven't seen in a while. Here are pictures of the LE codex and today's game. I promise it's back to more Chaos from me after today If anyone has any questions about my views of the new SMs visa-vie CSM/CD/R&H, feel free to ask. I think the new SMs are super competitive and will give Chaos armies of all stripes a ton of trouble until we get a revamp...SMs are now more mobile, better at taking objectives, outshoot Chaos even more than before thanks to the sudden avalanche of re-rolls from combat doctrines, and is even better in assault thanks to a variety of little buffs across the book! I think the key will still be lots of fast units (spawn, bikers, flying MCs, daemonettes) to try to tie up SMs in combat before they shoot you to death (unfortunately they can split into so many little Objective Secured squads and vehicles you will kill or break a unit, then get shot probably...not sure how to counter this yet). http://i.imgur.com/1MGV5xn.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/k4sTj39.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/nucefxh.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/upLaYaI.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/S9vKT7E.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/KGzyXsB.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/vich5tZ.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/Tt7RPik.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/1Ary6W8.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/nYwVl0Y.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/tESc3CN.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/ee61lvW.jpg?1 coabeous and Chaeron 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279118-hexfleet-virules-nurgle-csm-daemons-and-rh/page/5/#findComment-4086593 Share on other sites
Lagrath
Ok, after already spending a lot of money recently on my terrain commission (above) and the new LE SM codex (also above), I went ahead and did some crazy again today... So from earlier in this army log you've all seen my 40 mantic Plague Zombies (Hex Zombies!) that I made using Secret Weapon bases, right? Well, it always really bothered me that they had such different uniforms than my Nurgle Krieg renegade soldiers. After all, the backstory that I have been working on for the past year and a half has been that the Hex Plague turns soldiers who refuse to convert into Hex Zombies. Hence why even the hardy Krieg soldiers attacked by Nurgle on Vraks were corrupted - some were unwilling to face a fate worse than death (remember that the Liber Chaotica says that Despair, not Plague, is Nurgle true nature!) and embraced Nurgle. Those Krieg who stayed loyal...became zombies. Unfortunately, there is a real disparity between models here that messes up this story and aethstic, which bothered me since over the next few years I will hopefully be paying to have this all pro-painted... Nurgle Krieg: http://i.imgur.com/PwlxnSY.png?1 My mantic Hex Zombies: http://i.imgur.com/RDzvisu.png?1 As you can see, not quite the same...so what is the change? Well, just today I stumbled on a very expensive rip-off product being made in Ukraine by a third-party company...Krieg Zombies!!! http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDgwMA==/z/7p8AAOSwe-FU5HMb/$_57.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDgwMA==/z/1YIAAOSwNSxU5HMd/$_57.JPG Tell me 40 of those wouldn't be the PERFECT fit for my 100+ Nurgle Krieg in all my lists with my normal Nurgle Krieg Platoons/Command + Plague Zombies... Sadly, with shipping, the Mantic were $60 for 40, whereas these were $150 for 40! About two and a half times as expensive. And now I need to rip my Mantic ones off the Secret Weapon bases and try to sell them. But come, on these are so perfect. for Hexfleet Virules..and the poses and details are way better. ===== Update: After initially visiting what seems to be their eBay store (http://www.ebay.com/usr/montastore), I found this website (http://wargameexclusive.com/), which looks to be their distributor website (albeit under a different name). About same prices, maybe slightly cheaper (though without eBay's buyer protection). On both venues, check out what they sell! http://wargameexclusive.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/P1010009.jpg You know how I was always using a black spraypainted Space Marine Rhino for my legacy of ruin chaos rhino in my summoning armies because I didn't have any Chaos rhinos...well, I just impulse bought this amazing conversion kit too! Should be perfect for my army as well. Now to sell some Necron and Space Marine stuff to undo all this Nurgle damage! Blackcadian
Wow! What a great log you have here! I don't even remember how I got here but yeah, this sure was an enjoyable read (when instead I should've been working :/) Great stuff for sure! Also, congrats on your tourney wins! I always looked at R&H primarily as a very fluffy army as opposed to a powerhouse, but under the right command things look mighty different it seems! It's been killing me not to work on any of my models or the new short stories I have ready at all throughout June and July...end of this month I have to survive the bar exam to practice law in my state. I have a nice 2-month vacation in August and September as my reward, including moving into a new apartment where I rented a second bedroom to myself just to turn it into a gaming and display room for all my Hexfleet stuff. Over the next two years I'm hoping to put aside enough money to get all or most of the Hexfleet pro-painted as well. In other words, glad you like it so far, look forward to way more (and better) stuff starting next month, and follow my blog on Facebook (link in sig) if you want much more frequent updates. undeadsoldier 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/279118-hexfleet-virules-nurgle-csm-daemons-and-rh/page/5/#findComment-4118965 Share on other sites

Lagrath
A second bedroom for hobby purposes!? Thats commitment! Haha, yup. Paying very large sums in extra rent every month for that privilege. I considered getting a 1-bedroom, but my own parents pushed me to get the larger apartment. Their logic was that I have way too much hobby stuff (all my models, my painting and bits stuff, and my gaming table) to live comfortably in a 1-bedroom. The idea is also that I can get a fold-out couch for guests crashing at my place, and that I can have a party or people stay at my place or people over to play 40k without anyone needing to use my restroom. This also lets me go all-out in decorating the extra bedroom with display cases and framed Forgeworld Vraks posters - I can just lock off that room if I'm hosting business guests. Quarantine off all the Chaos as it were (but no Geller Field by the door, so my reputable guests can't stay too long...but if they are all lawyers then the Warp wouldn't have much extra effect on them anyway probably hahaha). It's not that bad, honestly. Renting prices in Houston have jumped in recent years, and the difference between a one and two bedroom is usually just a couple of hundred. Two bedrooms is essential, IMO, you don't want your hobby crap cluttering up your bedroom or your living room. Well, most places I looked at near the center of the city were ~1300-1600 for a 1-bedroom and ~2,000-2,500 for a 2-bedroom. So it's about $800-1000 more just for the extra bedroom and bathroom, which is painful for the wallet. But like you said, it's pretty necessary for someone with a lot of time, money, and stuff invested in this hobby. And I feel like I deserve the extra space after all the time and pain it's taken me to get to this part of my education and to obtain an impending job that will cover these types of expenses. Lagrath
Update! Two horrible months of studying and stress are over. I am now on quite a long vacation, which hopefully will mean a lot of sculpting and converting work that has been on the backburner! The ideal goal is to finish 100% of my CSM collection, which means putting the R&H and the Daemons on the side for now. As I mentioned in my last update, I am in the midst of moving to a new place that will have a second room just for 40k. As a part of that, I am happy to say that all of my mats, custom-ordered terrain, and table pieces have finally arrived! There was a lot of damage and heat that came from the 2-month shipping from Poland, so instead of sculpting I have spent about 20 hours or so of my vacation so far repairing buildings and putting hundreds of pins into the styrofoam material to make sure it will stay together and hold models on the floors. Once all that is done, I can get back to work on the models. But enough complaining! Behold the glorious Hexfleet Virules gaming table! Lagrath
Well today I am off to my first tournament in half a year (and possibly also my last for the year, since I finally start my busy job in a few weeks!). I am bringing my triple Chaos summoning army that did so well earlier this year. In other news, after 3 weeks of work, I also finally have my 40k room set up in my new apartment in downtown, where I am firmly moved in. I am having some buddies over Sunday for 40k and hanging out, and might post some pictures. I have a lot planned on expanding the room over the next year as I start earning income - custom frames for putting up a bunch of Forgeworld posters, display cases for all my Chaos books and Hexfleet sculpts, some lamps for good lighting during gaming and photos, and a desk for painting/keeping models off-table. I can't go more crazy than that since the room needs to double as a guest bedroom for visitors (I hope they like 40k!).
