I would use the drop pods as cover too, getting close with a couple of squads dropping and using their drop pods to block line of sight for disruption for later. If you can force the opponent to move his Riptides into less favourable positions you might be able to reach.

1850:

1 x Captain with Melta Bomb and ADL with Quad Gun

3 x RAS with Flamer and Land Raider

2 x Fragioso with Drop Pod

1 x RAS with Flamer and Drop Pod

3 x Attack Bike with Multi Melta

It's not exactly easy!

Fragiosos are very nice if you manage to drop them out of intercepting melta range, as all the missiles can only glance and they'll likely be behind cover. They deal a lot of damage to any infantry and they pop serpents with ease (shoot them in the rear). Baal predators and vindicators work very well too, anti-armor in general certainly is the Tau's weakness.

It would be interesting to see how the land raiders fare against a tau, especially coupled with fragiosos, it leaves him with a very hard choice (can't kill raiders and dreads, and both are a huge threat).

There are many ways to undermine intercept as blood angels, making use of combat squads, drop pod placement and corbulo are all viable ways to minimize causalties. You can even DS a landraider to block LoS of you want to.

In mass pod play, intercept increases the value of deathwind launchers, as your opponent will be facing added presure if he ignores the drop pod.

Does someone have any information on the anti-armor capability of generic taudar lists?

The problem is that there are plenty of customizable options on most units in a Taudar force. They can adjust to meta pretty easily.

Ushtador,

From the two Tau/Dar lists I saw at the tourney, there wasnt too much >S8 stuff.  Riptides usually carry TL-melta (fusion) and most players dont bother with Railheads.  So you're looking at a metric crap-ton of S7 in serpent fire and missiles.  Riptides will have either the S7 (2shot), S8 or S9 AP2 blast OR the S6, 12shot rending dakka gun. I stand to be corrected but the broadsides I think ignore cover thanks to the commanders batman belt - also can have tank hunter.

Uber-Autarchs on bikes usually carry a fusion too.  So, in short, they really do have enough at their disposal.  Honestly, I think im going to have to find a way to get some Grav-turions into my list .

Game 4 - Emperors Will - Vanguard Strike - VS. Eldar

List:

Uber-Autarch - bike, fusion, mask, mantle, shard, stupidity.

2x Warlocks on bikes

3x Bikers - shurican

3x Bikers - shurican

Wraithknight- wraithcannon

Wraithknight- suncannon, scatter las

Wraithknight - suncannon, scatter las

Crimson Hunter

Really simple list, but pretty damned deadly.  The troops are the obvious weakpoint, but with their mobility and ability to get a 2+ cover when turboing (thanks to the psychic powers), theyre pretty sick.  The autarch is a mephy killer, with fleshbane, rending, instant death killyness.  Will have to see what happens.

Mephy's warlord trait was useless, the libby however rolled Precog, which I would need and I think prescience.

I lost first turn, but this wasn't too bad considering I would have a chance to shoot his birds and have last go at the objectives.

I was staring down this:

Quite fearsome.

I decided to deploy most of my army on the board - including the snipers.  I needed them to at least try get a few wounds on the Knights.  All the models in the vehicles I took off board - into ravens, and the tacs marching on. The high threat bikers I left in cover, while the low threat HBs i put on the right flank.

In turn one, his Knights came at me aggressively, scoring first blood against the DA razor and taking out a few DA knights.

In my turn I cast precog, but not prescience, hoping to get into combat with the Knight that has moved too far out to the right flank that the Libby and attack bikers were on.  I had placed the libby with the HB bikers meaning that he was lower down on the threat scale - the opponent focussed more on the MM bikers, meph and the DA plasma.

My shooting is largely ineffectual - a wound on a knight here or there, and I fail Mephies charge into the knight :(  uh oh :( Think i needed about 9 or so.

The libby however makes it.  The kngith makes 3 hits and kills three bikers, but the libby then counters into combat.  With the help of precog he gets a wound through and sucks the soul out of the one Knight.

In turn two, the birds come on and start shooting me up. The knights move into position to charge mephy after shooting him. Unfortunately, the player spaces them poorly, and failed to realise he cant move his autarch through the gap (too small).  This means two knights are left to fight meph. He charges in one knight - the other i think failing a short charge.  Mephy makes quick work of him.

In my turn two, I come at him with a vengeance.  I take out 2 birds, and ding a HP off the 3rd. I take out the last knight and now start focussing on the bikers.

The autarch then made quick work of mephy and started on the bikers.

From this point I thought I had it, but the Eldar fought back strong.  They took out all my bikers, and started working on the troops.  I had a few dogfight moments, trying with all my shooting to get the last Hunter HP down, but he took out 1 raven i think.  I was shooting up the bikers where possible, but again, their saves made them difficult to dislodge.  In the end though, I managed to clear them out, and the autarch had to go back to his home plate to take out the squad that my raven dropped.  He managed to fight off the sarge and the squad, but after having taken other shooting and combat wounds, eventually died.

The game ended 2-7 to me!

Hmmm..

an autarch on jetbike can ignore obstacles (jet rule, p45 brb) did your opponent forgot this?

additional knight could turn this game, imo.

edit: typo

oh god, dont tell me i cheated him.  I'll be devastated ><;

I thought this is in the movement phase, not in the charging? Surely you cant move through models in the charge phase?!

I believe so yes, but why would he need to allocate them? Is it because they are two different units? I thought it would be just equally placed on the nearest models in base to base (if this interpretation is wrong, it's because I need more tea this morning).

Hypothetical: if Meph allocated half his attacks to each WK, wounded both but obviously didnt kill either - would activating his Force weapon give a chance to ID both models?

Exactly this - put 3 attacks on each wk, cast S10, pref. enemy and activate force weapon -> 600pts dead in one sweep.

@Jolemai  I believe it's not enough tea because you need to split your attacks beforhand between two separate units (not 100% sure but quite sure)
