  1. Ramiel sighed as the still smouldering body of their last remaining astropath was dragged from the command centre. "Well, that settles it, we are truly alone." "Two dozen sub orbital craft, a handful of planet skippers." One of the auxilia officers read off a data slate. "We could make it to a handful of the other worlds or moons in the system." Ramiel snorted. "If any other world had the capability to carry life, we would already be there. A murmur ran through the command post, Astartes officers and the mortals of the 411th Sanguine lifeguard both showing their unease. A figure in black stepped into the corpselight of the tactical display. Chaplain Selephiel his armour painted the sable black with crimson crosses, the ancient Baalite symbol of those who have resigned themselves to death in service. Around him, his followers too wore the black, his great executioners axe glinted in the darkness. "Our hand is forced then, no more thoughts of withdrawal or survival. Only death, ours and theirs." "I see you have already dressed for the occasion." Asbeel the moritat chuckled. "Your levity is unwanted." The chaplain banged the pommle of his axe, the cave floor. "I am not dying on this dustball!" Growled the crimson clad moritat. Two black clad veterans stepped between the moritat and the chaplain, their lightening claws crackled a sickly green. The moritat turned to face them slowly. Ramiels metallic hand pressed against the moritat's breastplate. "Leave them holstered, we have too few brothers remaining to waste on petty infighting." He glared back at the chaplain. "The Night Lords have taken more than enough of our brothers. It is time we repaid the debt." The chaplain turned and left his retinue in tow. "You know the men are starting to see things his way." Asbeel warned, the Praetor nodded. "Deploy the lifeguard, we need to secure a water source as soon as possible." The praetor ordered. "And....find me some of that damned black paint."
  2. Hello there! Welcome to the revival thread of my Blood Angels painting WIP/showcase. I used to have a thread here on B&C that got lost in the warp (lost during the B&C crash many years ago) and I didn't bother reviving it until now. First off...bit of a background. I've been a Blood Angels painter/collector going on 10+ years now with my first models purchased back in early 2010. I've always been fascinated with GW models ever since stumbling into a GW shop in my early teens (think the first one was in West Edmonton Mall) though could never really afford the models at an early age. Fast forward to about 10 years later when I graduated from University and got my first adult job, I treated myself to a box of Space Marine sniper scouts and paint set which has lead to this crazy addictive hobby. Over the years I've dabbled in many other armies and even model ranges but have always come back to the Blood Angels as I love the colour red and the entire model range of the army is in my opinion one of the best looking and versatile (from a bits perspective) in all of GW's lineup. Some quick points about my army: - I estimate I have over 20k points of painted models as of early 2020 - Painted model count is 360+ - I paint all my models using an airbrush first followed by manual brushwork afterwards - My latest red recipe is basecoat/prime with Vallejo Surface Primer Black, airbrush GW Mephiston Red, airbrush GW Evil Sunz Scarlet Reference Picture from an army photo done in Q4 2016 (approx. 15k 7th ed points) Models since the last army shot: Reaver Titan: And some non-army models:
  3. Find any remnants of the new betrayers that remain in the system. Use whatever and whoever you need. Take them or destroy them as you must. Do it now, my son.” -Rogal Dorn, upon learning of the Massacre at Isstvan V +++ Though Yartsev wore armor that bore markings of the 317th Grand Battalion of Iron Warriors, he only ever referred to his battalion as "The Gravel Eaters." They bore the name as both compliment and insult in equal measure. It had come from a particularly grueling campaign on some forgotten world at the edge of the Ghoul Stars, where they had dug their emplacements in the rough earth so fast that their allies remarked that they must have consumed the gravel beneath them rather than shoveling it. Yartsev had responded with a remark about excreting bricks, which earned him the favor of everyone in the 317th who heard it. But the siege ended and so did whatever good humor the Gravel Eaters possessed about their lot in the universe. They certainly hadn’t expected reassignment to the Sol Sector. Fortifying what few cities existed beneath Pluto's artificial atmosphere seemed like a thankless task and the Gravel Eaters hadn’t exactly relished rearguard duty. He remembered brawl after brawl between squads (the luster of Olympian discipline on full display). Better fighting lay well beyond the bounds of the Sol Sector. Proximity to the throne world meant nothing, either. What had the Emperor ever cared for them? When they received new orders from Perturabo himself though, then things had gotten interesting. Suddenly the Gravel Eaters became the vanguard, tasked with establishing a foothold in the domain of the Emperor Himself. Treachery had proved kind to them. No more nagging from useless Engiseers who didn’t understand the importance of a sound bunker versus yet another edifice in praise of the Machine God. Even better, they had killed the few Imperial Fists who Rogal Dorn had insisted oversee their work on Pluto. The arrogance of him. The swill-swallowing coward. They had dug themselves in for months, arrayed themselves for war in a way that might even make their temperamental primarch proud, and drilled until their post-human bodies sang in exhaustion. So the fact that Sigismund had broken their lines within the first minutes of engagement came as something of a surprise. They had assurances from Perturabo this would not happen. Their primarch said that any retribution coming for them would stay soundly on Terra after he crushed the Imperial Fists force bound for the Isstvan system. All that had fallen to shambles. Sigismund had come and brought the wrath of his father with him. Worse, he had brought a group of Imperial Fists that seemed as zealous as himself. Not just the idiots who stood in front of their damnable Temple of Oaths (Temple of Arse, more like), but every single legionnaire seemed a cut apart from the famous stoniness of the Imperial Fists. They roared their hate at the Iron Warriors for the oaths they had broken to the Emperor and then they bellowed their own dedication to the Iron Warriors’ eradication. Before Yartsev could even reload his bolter for the first time in the fight, he took a kick to the head that sent his empty weapon flying and his form sprawling against the opposite side of the tench he had occupied. He felt a massive blade crash his ribcage and pin him to the wall of the trench. The Black Sword gleamed with light from nearby fires, its ebony surface as dark as the sky above. “You will tell me where your Warsmith is, Iron Warrior.” Yartsev tried to spit at the First Captain of the Imperial Fists, but the saliva didn’t leave his MK II helm. He simply shook his head in protest, the pain of his impalement driving the words from his mouth. Sigismund tore his sword free and with a single swift stroke, split the Iron Warrior’s helm vertically. “Damn traitors. Can’t even follow the orders of a superior officer now.” +++ And thus it begins. With the all-but-confirmed plastic Heresy set coming at us in the fall, I took the plunge. More accurately I put my foot in the water to gage the the temperature, but yeah. I'm in there. So the idea for the force is to represent Sigismund and his brethren in the Age of Darkness, before the siege of Terra. These Fists are striking out across the Sol Sector on Dorn's orders and eliminating the remaining traitor legionnaires, like the Iron Warriors on Pluto (deployment I made up, happily accepting feedback on my Iron Warriors portrayal). I have some strong ideas about where Sigismund's character is at this point and how he starts thinking about the legions during this time. He isn't the first High Marshal yet. He isn't even the Emperor's Champion yet. But and that changes how he thinks. Anyway, expect some construction in the future and maybe some paint in late August/early September (when I'm back in school).
  4. I read that the old Flesh Tearers had an inverted scheme for their Death Company, with the shoulders and helmet being red, while the rest of the body was black. My chapter, the Blood Suns, uses Flesh Tearer similar patterns, but they are normally Black shoulders, head, backpack, and leg greaves, like such. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8082/8399725341_a452956475_b.jpg The idea is the chapter uses the iconography of a sun/star. They see the Imperium without the Emperor and Sanguinus as being like a red giant star, that has expanded in size and gobbled up it's system, but is at the end of it's life and will soon lose it's heat and collapse on itself, therefore they are named the Blood Suns. Therefore, they see a Marine's life being like a sun that has gone supernova, or turned into a black hole - the Black Rage is a marine's desire to see the end of everything, and destroy it all. So to make it a look like a supernova and a black hole, I'm going for an inverted white and black scheme, but I want some feedback on how this looks, and if it would be striking compared to the above. I'll post some model pictures in the morning when people are awake and I can set some out. But what is everyone's thoughts on this? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8229/8400814308_0bd0479300_b.jpg White color for the supernova imagery, and the black center for a Black supernova. The Red trim and Red chest eagle sort of keeping the basic Blood Sun third color, seen in the original. I love the alternative scheme for Death Company done in the book with the Angels Encarmine having white Sanguinary Guard as well, but I wondered if people think this would work on an actual model. Last consideration: I have a lot of those 3rd edition death company bodies that I'll be using for them models, and I have (with considerable effort) magnetized the backpacks to make sure they're flexible, so this is why I want to make sure I get the colors right. But if not, they'll strip easily being pewter/lead!
  5. T hey vilify us for our methods, yet nobody questions the results. We are the chosen Scions of Sanguinius, tempered weapon of the Emperor Himself. Our enemies quake with fear even before we strike first blood. They will soon know it is a fear well founded! Let them fear the Angels’s of Death, let them fear what is left of their short future; let them pray for death. Brothers, we will answer those prayers….. Commander Isiah, Chapter Master of the Flesh Eaters Greetings Brothers, Let me introduce to my first project log in the WIP forum, my take on the infamous 3rd founding Chapter, the Flesh Eaters. Now I’ve always been a Blood Angel, ever since I was a fresh faced 14 year old when Angel’s of Death came out. After dropping out of the hobby for a good while I returned to it a couple of years ago and picked up my beloved BA during the pdf.codex. I have currently got around 1500-1700 fully painted army with other stuff built. At this point it was either carry on building/painting more BA or have a change of direction with something different and a more hard core successor while it is still possible. It’s something that was always niggling at the back of my mind during the build of my Angels, and I finally took the plunge towards the end of the year. I looked at the more common bad-ass poster boys the Flesh Tearers, the hardcore Knights of Blood who have appeared in the new codex, and the equally hardcore Flesh Eaters; the latter described in the codex as being “fatally undone by their geenseed” a theme I think I could definitely work with. “How could GW destroy one of their original Rogue Trader Chapters in one sentence?” I here you cry! Tut-tut http://bolterandchainsword.com//public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/dry.png . Also helping with the decision were a few other more practical reasons; including a uniform colour scheme that I can easily apply to my existing marines (I dislike all the different coloured heads and the rise of Assault Squads over Tacs has meant my BA look like a yellow headed successor nowadays!), anybody who knows of my work will know I like a heavy vampire theme, to the point of more so than the standard BA. I also like to cover my dudes in blood, guts for a gritty look instead of bling-bling showroom fresh shine http://bolterandchainsword.com//public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/devil.gif meaning the time has come for the change, so here I am repainting my BA army lol. Check out my Flesh Eater test marine HERE, it shouldn’t be too difficult to convert my BA to FE. I want them to look border line Loyalist/Traitor – a sort of are they or aren’t they, so expect a hard core look with lots of trophies, and I’ll be using the old RT era colour scheme with the current Chapter symbol of a monstrous fanged maw. Once I start making new models, I plan to use a lot of Corvus armour (esp for the Veterans) as this is ideal with the 3rd founding history. Anyways, enough boring stuff, pictures are much more fun, yes? All only my old stuff repackaged and re-badged so you must bare with me if you are familiar with my BA army for the time being. Enter the Flesh Eaters……. Lessons learned: spectacular as the charge from deep strike was (I rolled 11, 10, 10 and 9 to bring the Guard, Libby and Priest all into combat), this left them in a vulnerable position with so many of the Eldar still being in that half of the battlefield. This was compounded when the Red Thirst took me and I attempted to make another assault the following turn, when I should have counted my blessings and fallen back to a defensive position – especially as the Priest can revive one squad member per turn (and indeed did so once). In general I also spread my forces out too much and should have kept everything tighter, units supporting each other. I forgot until the last turn that Rhinos can charge (and thus eat Overwatch!). I also kept forgetting my Command Points and ended the game with 6 out of 7 un-spent…
