Minx
Glad everyone is enjoying our pain hahaha :P We will have some more pictures today! What do you think on adding battle damage/weathering to add a bit of character? The_Chaplain
What do you think on adding battle damage/weathering to add a bit of character? Nothing wrong with adding a little more character to a model if it means we get more pictures out of it! Seriously though, that glowing skull is fascinating, I have to see more of it. Olis
What do you think on adding battle damage/weathering to add a bit of character? The simple answer is yes. Some well executed weathering turns a good model into a great one. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281764-minx-studio-deathwing-hqs-conversionsculpting-the-libby/page/2/#findComment-3503259 Share on other sites
Minx
Exellent, good plan, client agrees! As for the painting... it continues... not much longer maybe done by end of tomorrow, and then another day for the freehand to be added. However I wont have final photos up until next thursday or so, because we are delivering them in person so Im planning to be a dick and make him wait to see the finals in person hahaha! Chaplain, still working the skull... moving onto the details and adjusted crotch blanket further. http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1251_zps87833ed2.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1252_zps2490c4b1.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1253_zps93a44c53.jpg Belial, lots of colouring done, but unfortunately the yellows dont capture well in the photos so the armour up top looks flat... it really is far from it, Im hoping to capture in the next shots, may need to drop the iso or adjust lighting! http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1246_zpsb93777f6.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1247_zpsad08877a.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1248_zps9aaf8791.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1250_zpsda97ff84.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1249_zpsc2a4e68a.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281764-minx-studio-deathwing-hqs-conversionsculpting-the-libby/page/2/#findComment-3503855 Share on other sites
irwit
Quick question. Do you glue the guy to the base and paint him on the base, or can he be removed? I'd hate to paint a base with the guy already stuck there. I'd hate to paint a base with the guy already stuck there. Some display figures are painted separately, however the model and base dont interfere with each other on these so they are attached. What concerns you about painting the model on the base? Minx
Here is Belial, hes complete minus freehand! We changed the shield colour to have a stronger backdrop. The freehand will look nice on it, but the issue is the shape of the shield ruins many options for freehand and also killed the idea of putting a trim around it to reduce the red impact, so I will need to be creative with the freehand...... http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1284_zps6130aa6b.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1276_zps2f733231.jpg http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r742/Minx999/IMG_1280_zps09da2ff9.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281764-minx-studio-deathwing-hqs-conversionsculpting-the-libby/page/2/#findComment-3504669 Share on other sites
The_Chaplain
Belial is looking pretty beastly. I cannot fathom how you managed to make the thunder hammer look like flawless white marble. The_Chaplain
Why Thank you! We still have one more to do! On to the librarian!!! Looking forward to it! If you don't mind my asking (and I'm certainly not trying to steal trade secrets) but can you provide any insight or advice for that OSL technique used on the chaplain terminator skull? I recently stripped the paint of a chaplain dreadnought torso and might try something similar with red as the OSL color; all inspiration for that idea came from that gorgeous model obviously, haha. Minx
Red OSL is the hardest to do, you'd end up having to go for a lava effect with yellows and oranges or really take awhile to work it! all we do is use high contrast(white to black) fast contrast(move from white to black quickly) along with saturated colour(enchanted blue, necron abyss) the placement is tricky and something you can use reference images for, and play around with. If it doesnt feel like it glows, keep playing around with it. The idea is, the high value contrast will create the sense of strong lighting, while the saturated colour next to white, creates the sense of this strong light emits a coloured light. The_Chaplain
That makes a lot of sense Minx. I'll have to give it a try on a couple of test heads to get the right effect clearly. Sorry for the delay in response- had to carve the family pumpkins; way more time consuming than they make it out to be; especially when skulls and cheshire cats are involved. Minx
@rhodry, they have made the trip from Ottawa, Canada to New York City, now to Orlanda, Florida... soon to South Beach, and then back home to the UK! They got a bigger vacation than we did!!! :) That makes a lot of sense Minx. I'll have to give it a try on a couple of test heads to get the right effect clearly.
