=][= Grey Knights Unit of the Week Index =][=

Following the release of the 8th (and eventually 9th) edition Codex, this thread is a master list of units discussed as well as their tactics and people's thoughts of them. As stated previously each week a different unit will appear, with the idea that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. The threads are for constructive discussion only, and not as a place to talk about negative feelings solely (sharing a negative opinion is fine, just as long as it isn't the sole focus of the response).

With the subsequent release of the 9th edition codex of the Grey Knights, this list will be updated with the 9th edition units (if there are any). This thread is meant as an index, and not meant to be addressed.

The following list contains the links to each Unit of the Week entry for the 8th/9th edition:

10th edition WarComm Articles

Grey Knights inside!

bKBWGJIcZ4LzdNxr.thumb.jpg.5d76b20e71229acd036733c9269eb3ee.jpg

Grey Knights Terminators a show up in a new REQUISITIONED category. Priests and Navigators are joining the party, too, to provide guidance in both a spiritual and very literal sense

fWztdsAb8VA6FDgK.thumb.jpg.cd23755aa7394addbe0b82e88548236a.jpg

Should you instead wish to field an entire army of Imperial Agents, the Codex offers four new Detachments which add their own Detachment rules, Stratagems, and Enhancements to the mix, allowing you to support a full Inquisitorial force with no limitations on the number of units you can take. Three of these Detachments are themed around the major Inquisitorial Ordos, while the fourth represents those forces with significant Imperial Navy backing.

o1yPg627IeJVTklo.jpg.e51f589deca31cfce1aa7364da82de11.jpg

Inquisitors themselves are versatile leaders who can support a wide range of unit types, and their Blessed Wardings can now grant a 6+ invulnerable save to their unit in addition to the Command point-regenerating Power of the Rosette ability.

Regardless whether you send an entire army of agents out into the field or add some support to your favourite Imperial faction, you’ll be able to engage in secretive Shadow Operations with in-depth Crusade rules available to any Crusade Force that includes even a single AGENTS OF THE IMPERIUM Character. There’s a lot to cover in there and the rules are extremely thematic and fun, so we’ll return to Shadow Operations at a later date.

Finally, don’t worry Grey Knights players – this is only the first chance you’ll have to send your Terminators off on a daemon-hunting crusade. There will be a dedicated Grey Knights Codex on the way next year, but there are still a few factions to get through before the Knights of Titan start to peek their shiny battle plate over the horizon.

WarComm focus on DW but some tidbits:

6E0znCU0Cc5IHDWy.jpg.3fcc14c784205cb90dd19f896476f95a.jpg

"It’s not just the Deathwatch who can lend their aid to other Imperial armies – Assigned Agents allows all Agents of the Imperium units to join other factions. Perhaps you fancy deploying a squad of Imperial Navy Breachers alongside your Astra Militarum regiment – but there are cases where a carefully chosen squad can provide a serious boost. For instance, you can add serious melee strength to an Adeptus Mechanicus army with Grey Knight Terminators, or the Imperial Knights may wish to select some cheap infantry to hold backfield objectives and free up their big guys.

As a result, most Imperial Agents units have two points costs: a lower value for a full army selected from this Codex, and a separate, increased cost to reflect the impact they can have when included to mitigate the shortcomings of another faction. This has several advantages, and it means that points can be independently adjusted based on how effective a unit is in each setting.

You’ll be able to see these in the updated Munitorum Field Manual which will be released for free here on Warhammer Community at the same time the new Codex appears in stores. We will dig deeper into the Codex this week, with the branches of the Inquisition, the Detachments you can use for all-Agent armies, and more."

From WarComm Article 08/07 Assigned Agents

"If Assassins are the scalpel, Grey Knight Terminators are the hammer, and their ability to Deep Strike makes them a terrifying threat to hold in reserve. Strike Force armies can only take one unit at a time, but their sheer power can rip through bodyguards like paper and carve their way to the opposing Warlord while deep within enemy lines – and they can bring an Inquisitor along for the ride."

WarComm 08/08

fRcLRFSNIJckBFN5.jpg.3fe9b2d117abed8a32f06d77395f3cc4.jpg

"While the Ordo Xenos battle the enemy without and the Ordo Hereticus hunt the enemy within, the Ordo Malleus safeguard the Imperium from the enemy beyond – daemons, and the foul influence of the Warp. Their investigations are among the most dangerous and Inquisitors who thrive among the daemonhunters need to be made of stern stuff indeed – like Torquemada Coteaz, a puritanical taskmaster who spends every waking moment poring over reports and dossiers from his extensive spy network."

Grotsmas 2024 Grey Knghts Warpbane Task Force

"The Grey Knights strike to cleanse unhallowed ground and restore the sanctity of the Emperor’s domain. The Warpbane Taskforce is raised when only the most obscure and esoteric rituals of purgation will drive the taint of Chaos back into the depths of the Warp. Striding fearlessly into malignant hellscapes, the warriors of the Order of Purifiers lead the assault.

The combined psychic might of these anointed champions manifests in an azure fire that ignites the bodies and souls of unclean foes and scours away the taint of witchcraft and infernal corruption. In place of this excised perversion, an ensorceled zone of consecration is created, within which the Grey Knights are emboldened and empowered.

With the Warpbane Task Force, Grey Knights players will be able to field Purifier Squads at the height of their power, dispatched en masse to counter a specific threat. Where they tread is Hallowed Ground, within which Grey Knights’ attacks – and particularly those of the Purifiers themselves – are more accurate.

As this zone expands across the battlefield, your Enhancements and Stratagems become more potent: a Radiant Champion will find their melee attacks inflicting additional mortal wounds while they are wholly within Hallowed Ground, and in a Sanctified Kill Zone, the Purifiers surpass themselves, re-rolling their Wound rolls as they scour their foes from existence."

With daemons running rampant, the most powerful and secretive of Space Marines are called to once again banish Angron – just as they did in the First War for Armageddon. The Grey Knights are ready to drive the spear into Khorne’s legions with an updated Codex.

image3-6wborpksl8.jpg

The Knights of Titan have been busy, and their greatest champions stride forth with an updated Nemesis Dreadknight. It includes new weapon options like the Nemesis Flail and Nemesis Mace, and comes with plenty of additional parts to give your Grand Masters a suitable ornate war machine to ride into battle.

Updated Combat Patrol

"Crowe’s Sanctifiers is a flexible and hard-hitting force led by Castellan Crowe himself. This living legend can lash out with psychic Purifying Flame from range, or close the distance to carve up daemons and other unlucky foes with the infamous Black Blade of Antwyr.

You get a 10-man Strike Squad and a unit of five Brotherhood Terminators who represent the toughest warriors the Grey Knights have to offer. A Venerable Dreadnought armed with a twin lascannon provides plenty of anti-armour punch, or the ability to annihilate one very unlucky daemon extremely efficiently.

This elite force is preparing to teleport strike onto a battlefield near you, alongside the new Codex and upgraded Nemesis Dreadknight."

-Pass for me as I already have the models and do not need another Crowe.

This Combat Patrol is led by Castellan Crowe himself, a legend of the Knights of Titan. updated

It contains five Detachments and 25* datasheet

So a total of 6 Detachments counting our Grotmas detachment of Warpbane Task Force

Index has 28 Datasheets so we are losing 3 Datasheets. What 3 Datasheets are we losing?

My guess:

  • Servitors (Currently OOP)
  • Brotherhood Techmarine (Firstborn is OOP so makes sense)
  • Brotherhood Champion (Never had a model)

Some others on Social Media are saying:

  • Stern
  • Draigo
  • Stormhawk/ Storm Talon

And more WarComm news today!

 Detachment previews

The army rule stays broadly the same in the new Codex – besides a name change – with one key difference: units removed from the battlefield aren’t automatically returned in the following Reinforcements step, letting them remain in Strategic Reserves until you need them back in the action. For many units, this means they’ll be returning with the Deep Strike ability, and the ability to repeatedly flicker in and out of the battlefield is the focus of the new Brotherhood Strike Detachment.

The Detachment rule Fury of Titan is the core of this jump-in, jump-out strategy, giving useful re-rolls of 1 to Hit and Wound whenever a unit steps back into realspace. The Grey Knights are always looking to get stuck into combat though, and arriving 9” away from your opponent makes the resulting charge a gamble, so the Purity of Purpose Enhancement is a killer way to improve your chances.

Inside the secret daemon-killing armoury of the Grey Knights

"The Sublimator is one such weapon – a four-barrelled melta enhanced by the psychic power of its user, it can bore a smouldering hole right through the corpulent bulk of a Great Unclean One. With Melta 4 and Twin-linked, dealing D6 damage and AP -4, the Grand Master can immolate practically anything he so much as glances at."

40k_gkweapons-jul24-gunrules-poq2taljfm.jpg.e712753d5ca86cf42297f43abe5d643f.jpg

"Few weapons are as handy as the Nemesis flail, a colossal, psychically reactive weapon with 10 S5 attacks at D2. The alternative Nemesis mace is more of a precision tool, allowing a Grandmaster to utterly flatten diabolical sorcerers and corrupted commanders with Anti-Character 2+ and Precision."
