sockwithaticket
Aphael looks choice. One thing is nagging me about those destroyers being used as DC, the additional pistol holster on each one. So far I've only been able to use mine either by making gunslinger Vanguard or cutting a holster off and covering it with other bits and bobs, though that could well just be me being neurotic... LutherMax
@ Son of Dorn - thanks brother! @ Socket, I know what you mean and it did cross my mind to remove one but in the end I decided it wasn't a big deal and the models just look so badass I had to make them DC ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/17/#findComment-4561200 Share on other sites
Fenrykus
Ha thanks abadizzle! I started on Aphael today in fact, along with a tactical squad, assault marine squad, Death Company squad and two Dreadnoughts! I'm also painting another Mephiston and there are plenty more in the queue behind... @ Mikael the head is also separate so no worries there. If you go to the GW website there should be a picture of the sprue..? I thought I had, but could have sworn it was just various angles of the model. I'll check again, but thanks for the answer! Additionally, I am also waiting with bated breath on Captain Aphael (and the rest of your project list). Edit: It seems there is a photo of the sprue. Maybe I was thinking of a different model that didn't show a sprue... LutherMax
Finally time to brush off the cobwebs from this thread and show Mephiston, who I painted for fellow frater Indefragable. This completes a small set of models I painted for him which will be shipping off across the pond this weekend http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Blood-Angels-Mephiston-Original-01-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Blood-Angels-Mephiston-Original-02-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Blood-Angels-Mephiston-Original-03-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Blood-Angels-Mephiston-Original-04-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Blood-Angels-Mephiston-Original-05-750x750.jpg GrandMagnus, Grotsmasha, Quixus and 4 others 7 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/17/#findComment-4606949 Share on other sites
Quixus
Though old, I think Mephi still looks good and your paint job makes him look even better. If only he didn't have that deformed boar spear blade. LutherMax
Thanks Quixus! Yeah he's not a bad sculpt at all – and still stands slightly taller than a tactical marine. It would be great if the sword were thinner and the the pistol arm pointing up... Quixus
It would be great if the sword were thinner and the the pistol arm pointing up... I don't mind the thickness of the blade and the orientation of the pistol. The two prongs near the point of the blade just seem ridiculous. I fear both weapons pointing up would end up with a silly pose like this one. That's true – I'd prefer him with sword down and pistol up, personally. I just think the pistol arm looks static and un-natural somehow... and the blade is so thick it makes it look almost like a club! Lord Commander Eidolon
Really love these latest additions, love the vibrant red and how you've managed to effectively weather it. The Sicaran is spectacular, but i'd probably try some weathering powders on and around the tracks to simulate the dirt and dust built up! Great use of white on the Deredeo too, really makes the head pop -- I was pondering doing my latest EC dread with a white head, you've certainly convinced me to go with it!! LutherMax
Thanks guys! @ Eidolon, yeah I'm happy with the choice of white helmet. All my Veterans will have white helmets instead of gold (I just like the red & white combo), so he'll tie in nicely. I did consider using some powders to represent dust on both of these but didn't want to overdo it. May still go back and add some. eggroll
New models look great Luther! Really like how you've picked the colour combination for the reds, blacks, golds and silver. Will be looking to do something similar when I paint mine. Only crit I have is for the barrels on both of the models which show some noticeable bends which is really detracting from the overall paintjob. You should look into getting a heat gun (much more effective than a hair dryer) for straightening out those really stubborn parts. LutherMax
I actually had to go back and look at the pictures to figure out what you meant but I can see it now! They were actually very severely bent went I received the kits but I soaked them in hot water and straightened them. Must have slowly bent back slightly without me noticing! I wonder if it's safe to heat them up now they're painted and try straightening again..? In other news, I finished some Scout Snipers! http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-01-750x449.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-02-750x449.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-03-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-04-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-05-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-06-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-07-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-08-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-09-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-10-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-11-750x750.jpg http://www.themightybrush.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Blood-Angels-Scout-Snipers-12-750x750.jpg Edited January 19, 2017 by LutherMax Kierdale, Race Bannon, Dosjetka and 6 others 9 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282574-luthers-wosp-works-of-slow-progress/page/17/#findComment-4628533 Share on other sites

Yeah, I've had the same thing happen with some of my models from before. It's a huge pain as that's all I notice now when I look at them and really distracts from the paintjob. Never tried reheating after painting it...I'd assume it would cause the paint to bubble and peel but let me know if you do try and how it turns out :D Snipers look great btw...excellent job on the camo and straight barrels! Dantay VI
It wrecks the paint. My Spartan had curly lascannons, which I straightene, ten they began to curve slightly after painting. I put them in boiling water to straighten them again and the paint went bubbly. I wasn't sure if it was the heat or the water (or both). I would suggest getting some spare resin or sprue. Paint it then try heating with a hairdryer If the paint bubbles you haven't wrecked a model, if it works okay then you can go straighten out your Blood Angels. Btw, that Sicaran is sweet.. LutherMax
Thanks Quixus! I agree, the MKIV is probably my favourite Dreadnought - prefer it to the Contemptor even - particularly the plastic kit as I also prefer the normal feet to the FW ones.
