2000 pts World Eater Loyalists

Hey dudes and dudettes,

here is my first ever attempt at army list, as I have decided to attempt to get into playing the game. I know, probably I should have just stuck with Battle for Macragge or whatever the starter kit is called nowadays. It would be logical biggrin.png But I just am a maniac, and because I am obsessed with a HUGE fan of the World Eaters I absolutely positively plan to start with them. And I have Horus Heresy: Betrayal, so it would be wasting money if I didn't use its rules.

So here is a list I have in mind, insight and criticism very welcome

This is going to represent World Eaters from the 11th Assault Company under leadership of Centurion Darr. I have heard criticism about how Darr is not a very good choice compared to others and I see the point, he is more expensive than a Praetor with worse stats. I just like his fluff and he will also be very cool to model. I plan to attach Darr to the Rampagers.

The two assault squads are the backbone of this army. Forty chainaxe-wielding World Eaters with jump packs will ruin the day of Guardsmen or other infantry hordes, I imagine. 40 melta bombs will also be quite useful against heavily armoured foes and tanks. The tactical squad is there to add some ranged attacks with their Fury of the Legion rule while the support squad armed with flamers burn infantry from cover. The tactical and support squads will ride in the Storm Eagle

The Rampagers are there for the fluff and to accompany Darr. In the fluff I imagine that they are some the most erratic and insane marines of the 11th Co, so Darr would be with them to keep them in something that resembles order. The Storm Eagle, like I mentioned earlier will be used to transport the 15 unfortunate marines that don't have jump packs to keep them up with the rest of the army. The lascannons are there to provide anti armour fire to my army.

Have you considered using the angels wrath rite of war?

I personally would get rid of the rampages first and flamers second, but to each his own. If I were you I would trade them in for some jet bikes as mobile heavy weapon support to keep up with the advance of your army.

 

 

 

But if you like the rampagers, keep em ;) are you going to get the red butchers?

I misunderstood the rite of war rules, as I thought that only a Praetor gives access to one. Stupid brain, work properly! So, the rite of war will be Angel's Wrath. My mistake, and thanks for pointing that out depthcharge thumbsup.gif

I don't know yet if I'll get the Butchers... on the other hand they are gorgeous models, but I don't have Massacre so I don't have rules for them. I was under the impression that they could be used by traitors only? But on the other hand I know I can't resist Khârn when he is released, so I might be forced to make a traitor version of my list laugh.png

So, I made two new versions of the list, dropping Rampagers and Tactical Support Squad and replacing them with jetbikes as suggested

Proposition A:

Rampagers get replaced with a jetbike squad, five 'bikes. 1 multi-melta and a sarge, cost: 230 points

Instead of the tactical support squad, a Legion Heavy Support Squad with missile launchers. Sarge gets artificer armour. Cost: 170 points

Darr joins an assault squad

Proposition B:

Rampagers again get replaced with jetbikes, but this time six bikes instead of five. Six bikes, 2 multi-meltas, sarge with a power weapon. Cost: 285 points

I add Primus Medicae: with jump pack and artificer armour. Cost: 115 points.

Primus Medicae and Darr join assault squads.

Both versions have the same point value as the original list.

Thoughts on which one would be better? I'm personally leaning towards B. 20 man assault squad with Hit and Run and Feel no Pain is very, very tempting!

I believe Darr is a master of the legion so he can get the rule hopefully. If you do then you can't get any ground pounders unless you stick them in the stormeagle.

 

 

3 squads of scoring units is really light at 2000 points, but hey, we world eaters are just for wiping the table eh? ;)

 

I do like option b a lot better though.

 

I'll run a list when I get a chance but I think if you want to stay fluffy, do 2 15 man squads of assault marines, and a squad of 5 man jump pack command squad to represent Darr's cadre that are customizable.

Looks good, couple of questions, though.

First, the assault squads. Legion assault squad rules have an option that "The entire squad can take melta bombs for +5 points each". First I thought that like your list, you could just take some melta bombs. But then: "The squad's sergeant may take any of the following: -Melta bombs (if the squad has not already been upgraded to carry them)" So I drew the conclusion that either all marines get melta bombs or the sergeant gets melta bombs, but that you couldn't take f.ex. four melta bombs per squad. Was I wrong?

Second, the command squad. The rules say that they "may only be chosen as a retinue for a Legion Praetor". Is Darr Praetor-level or not? He costs more than a Praetor, but he is after all only Centurion Darr. Then on the other hand Khârn is also a Centurion in the fluff. I haven't seen his rules but I couldn't imagine Legion's number two guy being outranked by a generic Praetor laugh.png

I checked, Darr sadly doesn't have Master of the Legion rule, so he can't choose a Rite of War sad.png (not that your version of the list has one, just saying it)

But your list looks good, like I said before! Primus Medicae with caedere weapon is a very nice touch thumbsup.gif I can imagine a scene: "Doc I'm hit, is it bad?" "Nope" "What are you going to do with that excoriator??" "Stuff." Emperor's Mercy, World Eater style!

I would go as far to take out all the melta bombs except for the sarge so the assault squads can focus on infantry while the gun carriages can destroy armor within cover and safety.

Agreed.

 

Only put melta bombs on a few. Your Assault Squads will be shot before combat, which would waste a lot of points if they all have melta bombs.
