Leman Russ' Return (Lore army)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to make a lore army based around the return of Leman Russ, however, I'm also combining the lore with that of Norse/Celtic mythology. I want Russ to appear as a God guarded by his "demi-god" marines. The basic story behind his return is that he has successfully found the Tree of Life (one of the rumours said to be the reason behind his disappearance).

Now I'm going to be using a mix of GW models and another company with some kit bashing. I want Leman Russ to be a good chunk bigger than a normal space marine as well as his guard. Russ will be riding a massive wolf, bigger than the Fenrisian wolves from GW. His guard I want either on wolves or bears (leaning towards bears).

With his initial disappearance being so long ago, I want his return to be marked by a bit of tragedy. Showing a significant loss to his forces. So I thought what better excuse to include some Lone Wolf's. These Lone Wolf's will also be bigger models than the normal Space Marine. Warriors who want nothing more than to meet a worthy opponent who can grant them that ever elusive death.

Of course a Leman Russ army wouldn't be complete without including Bjorn! He will be joining the ranks of Russ' army upon his glorious return to Asaheim.

As for the rest of the army I want to include Thunderwolf Cavalry and separate units of Fenrisian wolves. However, what I really want to know is what else should a Leman Russ army include, lore-wise?

I feel like I want to stay away from mechanized infantry (tanks, speeders, bikes, etc) as much as possible. I like the idea of Russ' company just wanting to walk through their enemies. In no fear of being caught in no-mans-land. However, maybe I'm wrong and it's a must that Russ would include tanks and other mech.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated as well as any recommendations!

You think they'll release him in the near future? I've noticed they have been releasing Primarch's fairly quickly.

They have not shown a release order, and it seems to be more along what the sculptor is inspired to do. His rules should come out this year or next.
