Totem Pole
Another squad member ready. This time it's Veteran Sergeant Ademar. He might be my favourite of the bunch, for some reason. 3 down, 2 more to go. http://i.imgur.com/1SpIo8o.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YJg7qVJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/S9ezOnp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Fe5U0t1.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ymLXixQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AOfFSB2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fIuXKdh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/C71caNO.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285797-index-astartes/page/5/#findComment-3676754 Share on other sites

Totem Pole
And another one - Brother Pythol. One more to go. Happy with the way he came out. Though after I took the photos I've noticed that one of the grooves in his plasma gun barrel, needs to be filled with black wash, so I'll correct that later. Also thinking about perhps adding a heat mark to the gun barrel. http://i.imgur.com/a2Gzn0a.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AW7lS8H.jpg http://i.imgur.com/78Xjs9E.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3R8DLWR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Rki8t4e.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TMLYjmv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/LPRvFWa.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RTeX5n6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285797-index-astartes/page/5/#findComment-3679231 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
A-mazing. I saw it on FB and I just had to rush over and comment. I love the tiny heraldic badge on his pauldron, did you add that with greenstuff? I love the tiny heraldic badge on his pauldron, did you add that with greenstuff? My guess is either greenstuff or really thin plasticard. It's a really nice bit of detailing. Totem Pole
Could any fellow B&C member that owns FW new Khârn figure, help me out and tell me if his torso piece is by any chance slightly larger than a standard marine chest? The reason I am asking, is that my friend is currently planning to build a true-scale heresy legionary. He's basing the figure on either a Cataphractii or Tartaros legs, to give him that true-scale buff look. He's wondering however what to use for the torso. He's been eyeing the Khârn figure for this, since that mini seem to be slightly bigger in pictures than a standard marine (wouldn't be the first time GW changed the Astartes proportions, from the standard "plastic tactical marine template). Could any one of You confrim it? He's wondering if Khârn's torso attached to Terminator legs, would look convincing as a True Scale marine body. Totem Pole
Well, the main difference between this squad and let's say the Scythes of the Emperor Marine I posted a while back, is that when painting squads I usually base them on traditional, 'eavy metal rules of edge highlighting, with just the most basic, subtle, zenithal highlighting with an airbrush done beforehand (or none at all). While with the "display" marines, I wouldn't simply stick to edge highlighting and would have done some blending of highlights with brush on all the natural "light catching" points of the armour (like You can see on the black surfaces of the Emperor's Scythe). I can also be a little sloppier with the squad minis and allow myself more room for imperfections. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the squad painting technique is worse. I know that there are many people who prefer the comic book'y, Eavy Metal style over all those fancy-shmancy NMM and zenithal blending techniques. I know my love for 'Eavy Metal look has grown over the years, and I find myself more often trying to recreate the style of painters like Darren Latham, Kornel Kozak, Tom Winstone or Anja Wettergren. Totem Pole
http://i.imgur.com/UJ3plnk.jpg The Fists are finally complete with the addition of the last member - brother Arnfried. I think he is my least favourite of the bunch, as he turned out just a little bit sloppier than the rest, but I am still rather pleased with the result. The whole squad took me a bit longer to do than planned, and has outgrown the initial "test piece for future customers" concept, but I think it was worth it. Next up - either Blood Angels or heresy Dark Angels. The squad is now available for sale (link in my signature) Also if You like it, You can leave a vote on CMON: http://www.coolminiornot.com/357637 Cheers! http://i.imgur.com/ShfJMai.jpg http://i.imgur.com/swB4WbF.jpg http://i.imgur.com/lVKqlfH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VRI4SXJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zvS4f1l.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285797-index-astartes/page/5/#findComment-3683570 Share on other sites
BrotherCaptainArkhan
I actually like Arnfried best of the Imperial Fists. He's the most unique, perhaps because of the skull reliquary on his backpack and the custom head (Iron Warriors, right?) Totem Pole
Back to painting after a longer break. I allready have couple of Astartes kit bashes ready, but first I wanted to finish a box of Imperial Scions, I bought earlier. Yesterday I finished the first two squad memebers. I went for a 'Eavy Metal'ish style, with lots of edge highlights on every detail. I also fitted them on custom resin bases, to give them that urban feel. I recommend the scions box to every painter. The figures are great and a joy to paint. One of the biggest problems, at the begining, was deciding on the colour scheme. Couse the "sci-fi soldier" imagery is such a rich ground, for all manner of camos, and colour combinations. I had several versions in mind, in the end I went for a combination of blue and black (with some white insignias), as this seemed, like the most classical aproach to the "swat in space" theme. I do have a lots of other colour schemes in mind to try out, and this won't be the last Scions box I buy. Though I will probably paint the individual schemes on single, display minis, as painting a whole squad of those, takes a lot of time, due to all the gear and detail. Here are the first two squad members. http://i.imgur.com/earNqPZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CKaKIBa.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3mdCXBP.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uFNRdJc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FyJee5A.jpg http://i.imgur.com/BkmqWka.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fQzhgJq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZKYHX77.jpg http://i.imgur.com/NotATA9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/UXNWXjM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cVeI8EH.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0o9xi9D.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285797-index-astartes/page/5/#findComment-3779583 Share on other sites
LutherMax
I gotta say man, I love your stuff. You are probably one of my favourite painters. The scions are great models and you've more than done them justice here. Looking forward to seeing the other schemes you come up with! Totem Pole
Thanks guys! I do have one question though. Where did brother Arnfried's noggin come from? It's a slightly converted Forge World Legion Champion head. I cut off his crest and used it on another model. I also shaved away the edging on his face plate. Then I added two incisions to the front of that face plate for...no particular reason at all Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285797-index-astartes/page/5/#findComment-3780266 Share on other sites
