Daemon2027
the quality of the photo doesnt help with the distinction between the brass and the white/blue. Also i think i will take some of the silver out of it. I'm thinking of making the Ultramarine a more pastal blue that will not stand out as much. Ill be addin red, in the form onf the chapter logo, on the cape, and of course blood splatter which should help to. Daemon2027
Little update: I'm struggling with the middle symbol on Thraxs chest, metal faded into the white, red stood out, so I tried red stained metal. I think it looks ok on the shield, but it looks messy on the chest, I think my re paints have ruined the detail, I'm sort of thinking of removing it and leaving the area blank. Any suggestions? And the shield: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286730-the-embrace-of-the-nails/page/2/#findComment-3598390 Share on other sites
Larkyn
Suggestions? Remove it, and in it's place put a bloody handprint. As if the ultramarine reached out in his last moments of life, just trying to wound his killer. That's what I would do, at least. infyrana
Shield looks great ! Agreed on the suggestion for a bloody hand print, good idea. As for re-paint thickness, you could, at a serious risk to damaging other paint areas, use a small paint brush (very thin) and gently layer over some thinners in very thin layers to loosen up the paint and enable you to brush it off like cleaning wet paints from the recesses. Caution here - test this first or don't even attempt it ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286730-the-embrace-of-the-nails/page/2/#findComment-3598423 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
I've selectively removed paint from areas before and it's either gone perfectly or massively wrong. Not sure I will get the crispness of the etched brass back. The bloody hand is a good idea (and a badge of honour in the XIIth if I'm not mistaken), however I've played the Ultramarines death out in my head a few times and, when the chain axe carves away his right side I except a suitable amount of blood should hit Thrax's centre to right side (and this is where I will concentrate the fresh blood, along with a bit on the right hand side if the face and on the axe), so the hand print may get lost. What I could do is, while the blood is still wet on the model, use one of my clay shapers to drag streak the blood down, as if the Ultramarine was pawing at Thrax as he fell to his knees. It looks good on the chest, other than the red stuff around his collar (in the same colour) - what's that there for?
