The only criticism I have has nothing really to do with you, but GW. Why oh why did they make the sword so impossibly dull? It has these mm wide sides instead of a proper edge...it annoys me to no end! :(

Looking forward to seeing more of him! Get those magic GS fingers working! :)

Thanks guys! Existing GS still needs a bit of work (its a little ropey here and there I know) with more to be added. I am hoping the end result will scream "arch heretic!" but not ruin FW's intricate sculpting (Marshal, I know what you mean though, the standard pose is slightly 'off' but the head turn and cloak adds in some movement, also the topknot is not defying gravity.....I hope)

Ha ha I am glad I am not the only one who noticed that, its like a surf board. I was going to use a converted Bloodletter hellblade, but nothing quite says Drachn'yen like, er, Drachn'yen!! If you look closely you can see some file marks where I attempted to sharpen it but gave up as it wouldn't be true; hopefully paint will hide it with a 'glow' effect.

I'm curious to know what he would look like if his head faced the other direction. That way he would be looking down on his insignificant foes instead of upwards. I guess its already glued in?

I suppose the topknot is a bit limiting on options.

Thanks for the comments again guys

Slug, sorry mate, the head is well glued, and the top knot is pinned so no movement there!

Iron_Within, here you go mate quick pic of him and his 'other' armour (it got shrunken in the wash) and a random Chosen for scale:-

Not to horrendously big, but suitably imposing. I do actually like the old sculpt, but it is a bit wee by todays standards.

Oh I have plans for Loken too, he will likely be converted to a certain Blood Angels Chaplain, Jorus, whom was defeated (read:squished) by Abaddon in single combat during the seventh Black Crusade and was 'honoured' for his showing together, with his Death Company, after the battle with their corpses placed in make shift thrones made out of armour.

This way, get to make a cool model out of Loken, get to fluffy use the full diorama AND can use the Chaplain with my Flesh Eaters. Win :)

Loving the work you've done to 40k-ify the FW Abaddon model. I'm also really looking forward to seeing what you do with Loken :smile.:

Cheers! Loken is a great model in his own right, so should make a cool Chaplain with very minimal effort me thinks (I have a DV spesh edition helm that will be sat atop his shoulders in defiance of the Despoiler.

Freaking lush.

The fact that you like him makes me very happy indeed

Nice looking Yabba-Dabba-Abbadon!!

I had also thought the FW goodie could use a small amount of conversion to make him into the monster he is today. Er well not today, you get my drift...

I'm excited to see you get some paint to this model!!

That is an excellent plan! :D

I'm torn. On one hand, INCREDIBLE MODEL. On the other hand, I wince and the damage the metal parts could do to the resin if accidentally dropped. I know Finecast has a poor reputation, but is it really worth risking the model for slightly nicer metal bits?

Thank you very much for the kind words guys, I am looking forward to painting him but thought better of it so as to save him as a ‘reward’ so to speak. Also to make sure that I get the scheme down first before I do the boss man.

@ Marshal Sampson – I always go ott on pinning, so my conversions can usually take a knock if done right. It has to be so, as I game often with my dudesmen (as well as spend far, far, FAR too long building and painting them!). Thanks for the comment :smile.:

The basics of my portion of the Legion, known as the Black Harbingers, is they are in the higher echelons of the Legion, thus allowing me to use the Warmaster and his Bringers of Despair occasionally, as well as the likes of Be’Lakor and Black Legion artifacts etc but be able to write my own fluff and not feel dirty. I am busy writing said fluff for the Warband at the minute, gist being they are led by a Khornate Daemon Prince who had designs on getting into the inner circle of Abaddon whilst in mortal form, possibly even becoming one of his own personal Chosen and leading the Hounds of Abaddon. However, he ended up ascending (kind of! All is not as it appears….) to Daemonhood, putting an end to that avenue. More to come on that later; including how he ends up trapped in his own shape shifting Daemon Weapon. In the meantime:-

Basing needs a little dead/burned static grass me thinks.

Legion symbol not done yet, I need to decide on a yellow.

He is a tester for the colour scheme I am planning on using. Believe it or not he has had four different coats until I had a black I am happy with – black is a colour I have always struggled with. In fact, I am surprised there is any detail left! I am a big fan of the new direction 40k Chaos is going with the DV mutations, they feel very grim dark, especially for the Legions veterans .  The daemonic shoulder pad is the test for how I will be painting my Daemons, as there is a sizable contingent of Bloodletters, Fleshounds (with Jugger Herald) I will be able to call upon. I also have a plastic Balrog I am planning on converting to a Bloodthirster. The red mutations/glowing eyes should bring the force together as a whole quite well.

Rest of the Chosen so far:-

At a building stage at the moment, and will be for a while yet as my Flesh Eaters have a few things that need painting and hobby time is premium in my life. They also need a fair bit of green stuffing yet, and the special weapon members aren’t done yet. As you can see they are Mok as, well, I like punching things. Not saying everything will be MoK by a long shot; remeber the beauty of the Legion is anything goes and still looks coherent once it has taken The Black. I have always had a soft spot for collecting skulls and heads however, ever since school, so Khorne is my first love.

Blood for the Blood God and all :furious:

As ever, C & C most welcome.

Really exemplary models! I cannot believe you magnetized all of them! Another piece of (hopefully) constructive criticism though: the common thinking is that a dark model should have a light base and vice-versa. I think adhering to that theory might help your legion pop more. But that's just me! They look stunning either way!

Ah they are not all magnetized!! Just specific ones (think power weapons/special weapons) after magnetizing an armies worth of  Blood Angels, this makes me happy. As for the base, that is a very good call. Any ideas? I will have to stay with a brownish theme though, due to the tables we play on.

How about something like this:

med_gallery_62495_7855_359032.jpg

The basic recipe was a layer of Baneblade Brown, followed by a drybrush of Ushabti Bone, then lined with Mournfang brown. Keep your stones as they are.

Now that I look at your model again, maybe you don't even need to change the base, just the lining of it (black) blends in too much with your model. Maybe just a lining of one of the richer browns would do it.
