WarriorFish
Agreed, good job - and of course the Bullgryns too. I'll get some soon, but things get in the way... Keep up the good work :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288831-the-golgothan-7th-legion-taurox-done/page/3/#findComment-3714867 Share on other sites
Honda
Umm, where did that gatling cannon come from? Is that half of the Storm Lord Vulcan Mega Bolter? That's an absolutely wicked idea....<looks over at my Valkyrie "counts as" Vultures with Punisher cannons> Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288831-the-golgothan-7th-legion-taurox-done/page/3/#findComment-3714947 Share on other sites
Andhil
It's from the Vengeance Battery Gatling cannon. I bought that kit specifically for this project. EDIT: Model is basecoated. Let madness ensue! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288831-the-golgothan-7th-legion-taurox-done/page/3/#findComment-3714983 Share on other sites
Andhil
Alright, first update on the Valkyrie, I've also got a little write-up about the pattern itself. Just for fun. I'm pretty excited about this project, because this is my 3rd Valkyrie, which is my favorite 40K model, and also being the model that swayed me to play Guard. Anyway, lots of firsts here, including the shark-teeth around the nose. I still need to edit with the red to get the shape of the teeth more defined. I'm also adding red for the pattern markings (usually the markings are grey). Which means I have 3 different types now, (for the Valkyrie, Vendetta and Verrückt) the Vendetta is shown in the back, so you can get an idea. http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/ETL%20III%20pics/S1032615.jpg The Verrückt-Pattern Valkyrie was created when the Golgothan Legion required heavy air-to-ground firepower to cover the ground troops in urban environments. Many options were considered, but eventually, following their nature, the Golgothans wanted the biggest Gatling Cannon possible. This was met with some amusement from their Mechanicus liaisons. Some even dismissed the idea as being "crazy and ridiculous". Which immediately coined the nickname for the pattern. A test model was built, and a field test conducted. The first flight went wrong. Horribly. The Golgothan gunner fired the Cannon continuously, the immense recoil causing the plane to stall and crash. Fortunately, none of the crew were killed. The Mechanicus were forced to place a burst limiter on the weapon after all their simulations showed the same result as the first test (as the parameters had included the Golgothans personality.) This immediately made the pattern viable, and further simulations showed positive results. Yet the Pilots weren't satisfied with the now limited firepower, and pleaded for extra hardpoints under the wings, which was deemed possible, and were added swiftly. The favored set-up includes Multiple Rocket pods and HEAT-missiles. Since then, the pattern, while being designed for CAS has proved it's capabilities as a full-on attack aircraft, often leading the Golgothan airmobile assaults. The Verrückt-Pattern is currently under AdMech inspection, pending official recognition. Now, I could use some help regarding a name for this particular aircraft. Maybe something to go along with my other two Planes, "Orion" and "Gemini". Anyway, feel free to C&C. scatmandoo
Are you making home brew rules for the verrüct pattern? Seems a waste to have it as a counts as....... Andhil
Ah, back on the front lines at last, with newfound courage, faith and shiny new toys! First up, the almost mandatory Wyvern. http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030051.jpg A beastly looking tank, and a fun model to assemble. I'm gonna enjoy painting this one. It's name, keeping with the trend, will be "Widar", after the Norse god of Vengeance. (Spelling varies, depending on location, sometimes "Vidar" or "Vithar" are used) Next up is a model I wasn't too keen on, for various reasons, but with some simple cutting work, I edited out both weapon-related problems. I speak, offcourse about the Taurox Prime. Now, I love me some Gatling guns, so the Prime got that going, but I detest the asymmetrical Turret and I dislike the side-mounted weapons. I solved both these problems in one go: http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030050-1.jpg I also ditched most of the Scions iconography, as this one is for the use of my Kasrkin Stormtroopers, so no lions for me. It's name wil most likely be "Biliskirnir" after the Hall of Thor. I'm not entirely sure when I can start painting them, but you guys'll be the first to know! Feel free to comment, all are welcome! WarriorFish
More vehicles, excellent! I'll look forward to seeing these painted up, we seem to be light on tanks of late and that simply won't do! Andhil
Absolutely. Note that this Taurox is also likely to be the first of at least 3, side the model has inspired a kit bash idea, namely to slap all the missile Launcher on the back of a single Taurox, to make a sort of Katyusha launcher. But again, a long term project. Kierdale
Good work. Particularly with moving the volley guns to the turret. A nice idea, that. I didn't like the look of the Taurox with them back behind the side doors. WarriorFish
Yeah, I'd do something like this should I get a Taurox (and make it a half track) :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288831-the-golgothan-7th-legion-taurox-done/page/3/#findComment-3855739 Share on other sites
Andhil
@Kierdale: Yeah, me neither, I loathe the idea of unloading elite troops when they're at risk of getting shot by their own transport. I had to do some cutting work to get the Gatlings to fit, but it was fairly easy, just needed to make it a bit wider and deeper to make it fit perfectly. I particularly like the aggressive look it gives the turret. Lots better than the side mounted thingy the stock model has. @WarriorFish: Yeah, the Taurox would look awesome as a half-track. You should do that! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288831-the-golgothan-7th-legion-taurox-done/page/3/#findComment-3855741 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
My Scion army is still a long way off, so it won't be any time soon. Unless I win the lottery of course Until then I will live out my Scion plans through others, so get painting! CoffeeGrunt
I like the reworking on the Taurox. I think I'd do something similar along with throwing a Wheel kit on there, it's the chunkiness and fragility that throws me off getting one, though. That said, I'd be careful if you ever enter tournaments, as someone more whiny and nitpicky than I may say that you're modelling for advantage by adding the supposed-to-be hull-mounted weapons to a 360-degree turret. However, if you're playing with friends, they should be cool with it, and IMO it'd be a heck of a That Guy thing to nitpick over! scatmandoo
The wyvern is indeed a nice kit to assemble and brings many rewards to the tabletop. I like the upgrades to the Taurox too. Looks better to the point where i am even considering one for the future! Andhil
Small progress update on the Taurox, not done yet, but I did finish my planned freehand. (I found the back to be a big empty space, which is convenient for freehand!) http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030001.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/288831-the-golgothan-7th-legion-taurox-done/page/3/#findComment-3861862 Share on other sites

Andhil
Thank you both, I'm currently sticking to simple designs, attempting to hone my skills. Because practice makes perfect, right? @scatmandoo: I do like the model. It's got some nice details to it, and it's got a pretty clunky look that I like. The twin gatlings also help. Andhil
Boom! Progress! That is to say, I completed the Taurox and as a bonus I finished my Bullgryns as well. Taurox: http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030620.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030621.jpg http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030622.jpg Bullgryns: http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv325/Elcundil/S1030618.jpg Conclusion: Everything looks bad in black! WarriorFish
Nice work, I can't disagree there! I still want Bullgryns, I'll probably be soon getting some just like the Scions if I keep seeing them at this rate - despite my best efforts  Will you be highlighting the Taurox black? A little bit of Charadon Granite (or whatever it's called now) works really well for me, makes a big difference for relatively little effort especially if you dry brush it. Andhil
I don't highlight anything. I like the matte black look my vehicles have, highlights break that up too much in my (humble) opinion.
