Astra Militarum headache

Recommended Posts

I hadn't been intending to put the lasguns in my next Chimera. I was going to either leave them as open firing holes...or put sets of oars in there.

Guess I'll have to go with the oars.

But seriously I guess we shouldn't complain too much, though it was nice being able to put a full HWT in there and have them all shoot out of their AV12 bunker. My quad-flamer PCS will just have to dismount to do the cooking.

Oars like a lifeboat? Oh! It's amphibious! HA! :)

If only we could choose for a chimera to have lasgun attacks, or to be able to make melee attacks :)

Being able to run a Tank squadron as a HQ choice will be pretty nice.  Helps to free up room for those Hydras and Basilisks.  Not going into the details of it completely, but you could have the Cmdr in Vanquisher and still have the other two just use Battle Cannons.

Gems i've found so far (just got home with it):

-cheap-as-a-powerfist Ministorum priests with Zealot and buffing war hymns (can take Plasma guns too).

-Wyrdvane Psyker Squads get acess to Divination, biomancy, pyromancy and telekinesis.

-Astropaths are now lvl 1 psykers with telepathy.

-Techpriests can grant PotMS to one tank for one turn.

Its like Xmas.

the thing is, IA1 2nd edition doesn't allow astra militarum chimeras to upgrade like that, nor do they allow griffons etc to be used by astra militarum armies. I hope forgeworld puts up a FAQ soon!

OK, so Astra Militarum isn't Imperial Guard, but for casual mooks like the local meta, they're close enough.

Indeed. On the first page the Astra Militaurm codex uses the term "Imperial Guard". I agree that a FAQ that neatly ties things together for obstinate opponents would be nice, but it's not really necessary.

I completely agree with you guys, however I'm sure we all know 1 RAW guy who will complain that your list is illegal when your medusa destroys his precious terminator unit. msn-wink.gif

Around here it's the RAI guy who provides that sort of problem, not the RAW guys (I'm a RAWer myself).

You can still run IA1-2ED as either your primary army or as an ally. I will now that...

Most of the artillery is only FW,

our vendetta got screwed, (im ok with the point increase but the transport capacity of 6 is dumb)

the executioner has been made total garbage(my favorite LR was sentenced to collect dust with adding gets hot to the main gun)

IA has better tank commanders, commisar tanks,

better hydras, (ill pay the 5 point tax to get back closed top and ignore cover)

Better and more vehicle equipment and weapon options.

LR conquer and annihilators,

Vulture gunship ( I just got one and have to use one of the IA books anyway)

Most superheavies.

Well, if we're talking about FW stuff...I like the avenger...  It costs the same as a leman russ, and, sure it's a little fragile with AV10 sides and 2HP, but the seven BS4 shots at S6AP3, plus two lascannons?  I'm planning to run four valkyries, and an avenger sounds like it'd draw whatever anti-air fire the enemy has!  I may even pay the points to add a pair of missile launchers...eleven anti-MEQ shots at BS4...yum!  That'll gut a squad of marines, which in combination with the protection that it provides to the valkyries more than justifies the cost.

Cant find much in the codex that helps me, and pages 6 and 7 state that the Astra Militarum are the Imperial Guard (it states it several times in fact) so it is Imperial Armour for me.

Going to see how many Colossus and Bombards I can fit in around 7 Chimeria.

Executioner = garbage? It got a 40 point decrease (not including the cheaper sponsons) in return for gets hot. Seems a fair trade off to me.

I liked running my executioner with plasma cannons which ment I had a 8% chance to glance it self. Now the same russ has a 42% chance each turn to lose a hull point. Its my opponent's job to kill my tanks not mine. Gets hot ruined the executioner and dropping 40pts is just putting lipstick on a pig.

Engineers can help with the issue. Or rather, repair the issue when/if it happens. Always a must have in my armoured lists, and now they're even better because they can gift machine spirit.

And anyway, and it's possible I'm wrong here, but gets hot rolls of a 1 on a vehicle require a second roll of 4+ to actually do anything don't they? So that's not so bad.

I really don't see the problem with the Executioner. So you have to roll 3 times for Gets Hot. Sure, but because it's a vehicle, you get a 4+ sv against that. So there's a one-in-six chance to Get Hot, after which there's a one-in-two chance of ignoring it.

Let alone that you bring a couple of Techpriests, who've even been buffed beyond belief.

Add that to the 40pts discount, and you should be sold. I'm even thinking about it myself. Even so, it'll have to wait, as with the discount on Punishers and Tank Commanders, I've found my next IG project.thumbsup.gif

I have not read all the responses in this topic, however I think that a Chimera at 65 points is fine. It costs less than two Terminators with power fists, and the usability and utility it provides is great.

Also, stop hating on the Taurox. I've seen a few in real life and they actually look really cool and unique. All Guard vehicles were starting to look identical. Variety IS the spice of life!
