After being out of the hobby for a decade, I decided to take it up again after finding my old Space Wolves army form 3rd Ed in the loft.

Most of the models were rather over enthusiastically assembled and painted, but it gives me a great opportunity to mess around with various modelling and sculpting techniques to help improve my skills.

Looking to go with a 13th Company, maybe even Pre Heresy, theme as that's what I was attempting to build to before I stopped collecting altogether. Going to try and bring in some Warriors of Chaos bits ,instead of just using Chaos Space Marines kitbashes, to get more of that Nordic Barbarian feel, which I've seen used to great effect on other SW armies.

First up is my fur sculpting test. The pelt is trying to cover up some shoddy assembly. I'm also pretty sure this was the first ever model I put together back in the day. Any feedback and criticism would be most welcome.

Trying the same pelt technique but on a tabbard. Considering swapping the head out but it's stuck on tight with plastic cement,so it might not be worth the effort.

Welcome back

(I'm still building my enthousiasm to get back to the hobby)

good start on the green stuff sculpting.

You might want to exagerate the hair in the fur, dig more your tool into it like you did on the first shoulder.

here is a goog example/tutorial

That's a real useful tutorial, thanks for the link. Ended up starting over again on the shoulder anyway as I felt the direction of the fur didn't make much sense. Seeing your sculpt in macro focus is a pretty good way to get a second eye on it.

Very promising stuff! The sword in particular is very well made.

Cheers man. Wish I had the skill to make that sword! Think it's an old Chaos Marine bit from 2nd edition?

Thanks dantay. Been a bit busy for hobby work recently but have managed to get something done over this weekend.

I've held off progress of this once I started hearing rumors of the new codex so once I get my copy I'll start up on the troops again. Did however manage to dig out my old Predator Annihilator this week.

Thing must be at least 14 years old and needless to say my assembly skills weren't the best then. Paint job wasn't going to do either as I'm going for a darker grey.

One dettol soak later and it's ready for reassembly. Used Zap Z-7 Debonder to loosen up the model on the advice of my FGLS. Worked like a charm for me and didn't wreck the plastic like I was afraid it would. Wish I had some of it when I was disassembling my grey hunters earlier this year. Going to start sanding down any mold lines and uneven surfaces later and try to remove whatever superglue's left on the tank.
