High Marshal Marcus
Can anyone recommend a base to start a conversion for helmets like these? Or maybe a FW model already released that I have overlooked. What Armour type is this? IV? Where these a Luna Wolves only helmet? Or am I going mad and getting too caught up in artwork and these never existed...? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XwiTmULAwW8/S_Zh-bvpCiI/AAAAAAAAAKM/gnYdCWzA988/s1600/falsegodsbig.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290308-luna-wolves-helmets/ Share on other sites
Daevyll
They look an awful lot like Clone trooper helmets from Star Wars to me. Perhaps you can source some SW mini's and cut off their heads? Just pretend they displeased the Lord Vader. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290308-luna-wolves-helmets/#findComment-3667687 Share on other sites
Haywire
I'm seeing a mixture of marks in there, to be honest. The torso armour appears to be Mark V 'Heresy' armour, while the knee-pads are styled on a later mark, still, while the shoulder pads appear almost as Mk 6 with a much thicker shoulder rim. As for the helmets, if I was to hazard a guess, I'd say a variant of Mk 2. At the end of the day, I am half-tempted to go with it not existing due to the anachronisms involved. The other half of me suggests that this actually is Mk IV armour, but in a different style to the norm. All I can really say is go with what your gut tells you to do. Toomanyprojects
There is a single Khorne Bezerker helmet with that visor arrangement I think. Shave off the bunny ears and presto. Flint13
To me, they look pretty similiar to the wacky MKIV from Loth's bodyguard sans scorpion iconography. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Red_Scorpions/MAGISTER_SEVRIN_LOTH-CHIEF-LIBRARIAN-OF-THE-RED-SCORPIONS-WITH-HONOUR-GUARD.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290308-luna-wolves-helmets/#findComment-3667798 Share on other sites

JeffJedi
Yeah for the leaders, but look at the guy above the C in continues. His helmet is different. It has a sort of cheek guards. Marshal Loss
Just keep in mind that the artwork of False Gods is quite old in terms of the actual HH novel series, so they probably just tried to go for a retro feel rather than actually sticking to strict marks, as you can see the covers doing now. EDIT: I'd use Mark II if I were depicting them, see HH: Betrayal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290308-luna-wolves-helmets/#findComment-3668225 Share on other sites
Haywire
Interesting tidbit is that the cover there was originally made for Horus Rising. While the cover on Horus Rising was intended for False Gods... and features Wales in the background being shot up. High Marshal Marcus
Thanks for all the feedback! I agree that the beserker helm seems to be the closest... As JeffJedi mentioned though... that is the helmet used by the leaders, and I quite prefer the "Cheek guard" version worn by the tactical troops. They do look fantastic... but as also mentioned, it is just art, and old art at that. I wont get my hopes up about existing minis or upcoming minis with these helms, but mannnn are they cool Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290308-luna-wolves-helmets/#findComment-3668571 Share on other sites

Flint13
Huh... those look pretty cool. I wonder what interesting fluff justification they'll come up with for the "bunny ears." Especially since they are such a classic part of the Khorne Berzeker silhouette. Plague Angel
Damn you, Forge World. You know I'm sitting on the fence, trying to figure out how to commit to one Legion when they're all so cool, and you keep doing cool stuff. Huh... those look pretty cool. I wonder what interesting fluff justification they'll come up with for the "bunny ears." Especially since they are such a classic part of the Khorne Berzeker silhouette. Just ominous foreshadowing? Death Guard models already have all sorts of Nurgle-ness to them. Marshal Rohr
Dude, that is the Mark II set. Each Legion will get a Mk 2 - 4 set, unless they've changed their minds. I hereby decree that you shall wear bunny ears for the rest of time so that all shall know of your cowardice!!! And so you shall get shot at by EVERYBODY! Including me Khârn: that's a bit far, isn't it, my lord? Angron: So help me Khârn, I'll make you wear some outdated and crude metal ones if you don't shut up!!! Or something like that anyway :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290308-luna-wolves-helmets/#findComment-3671790 Share on other sites
