Greetings Brothers!

For a long time I wanted to start a legiones astartes, but then again who wouldn't when seeing the quality of heresy era models on this site?!

Finally getting the last push to start this time consuming and wallet-drying endevaour, I got around to actually making some test minis.

The final choice in legions stand between the Iron Warriors and the Imperial Fists, two rivals who also share alot of aspects in their Primarchs.

I painted one of each legion in a few hours just to get the feel of their colours. I love the mechanical and brutal side of the Iron Warriors but then again I also love the loyal to the bone and structured ranks of the Imperial Fists.

So please help me choose, I am currently reading through Extermination to get the feel of the two legions. It will probably be a month or so before I actually get going on my legion and I hate to regret my choice later.

These miniatures was painted in three or so hours so they're not perfect, just testers so bear with me. I always loved the darker Imperial Fists and I think he turned out okay, the Iron Warrior looks just as I wanted him; dark and menacing. Once I settle on a legion I will do a more thorough paint scheme with battle damage and sharper details.

So what do you guys think; Iron Warriors or Imperial Fists?

They are both awesome Legions. But you need to think - which one do you prefer painting? That is what pushed me back to Iron Warriors after I tried painting some Imperial Fists a while back. If it comes down to it and you prefer the Imperial Fists but find yellow annoying paint them in their sweet Unification scheme :P

Well, both look great - really they do!!!  I like the look of the IW's myself, imo Yellow is a biatch to do over larger surfaces and areas; but as already stated; which did you enjoy paininting more?  Not much help granted; but then its your fault for giving us such a dilema!!!  :)

Well you can still create company of IF which for some reason don't paint yellow all over their armour.

I must say that the Iron Warriors paint scheme was the most enjoyable to paint and I am not sure about painting big vehicles in yellow...

But then again my plan is that once I settle on a legion I will make my own company/ battalion with the fluff and markings that comes with such a fighting force so you both have a valid point...why must this be so hard?!

Now that's a good idea, a grand battalion of Iron Warriors with armour and all thats loyal and true to the Emperor of mandkind and to some extend Perturabo. I like it thumbsup.gif

Well, if you wanted the best of both worlds, you could always go with.......the Iron Hands!

You get the whole fighting against the odds / bitter struggle vibe of Loyalists, combined with many aspects of the IV - loads of tanks, ruthlessness, advanced wargear, and they're definitely the nastiest Loyalist Legion - plus, you get technology turned up to 11 - the most advanced outside the Mechanicum biggrin.png

Edit: although that Iron Warrior does look pretty dope

Let me FIrST Say, both models look great. As to choosing a legion, though, can you make a FIrm STatement that Says what value you like in a legion? Both legions have their fans and their critics, but the FInal choice reSTS with you.

If painting TONS of yellow isn't really your thing, but you still want Imperial Fists (if thats your final choice) you could paint them like the Verteran in the Extermination preview.

I must say that theres some very good points for both legions, and maybe some subliminale messages along the way.

Im not quite sure why but I get the urge to join the navy?!

 

How did you do your Imperial Fists, out of curiosity?

 

My Imperial Fist is remarkably simple:

Vallejo grey primer (spray)

Averland sunset

Leadbelcher (for the trim)

Abaddon black (for the bolter and some trim)

Mechanicus standard grey (drybrushed and edge highlighted unto the black)

Agrax earthshade (applied heavily all over)

 

So all in all it's just Averland sunset with a wash. Maybe with some highlights and more detail if I choose them.

And thats really all I did to keep it simple, if I do choose the Fists I actually have to paint a motherloade of them so I didn't want a complex scheme.

It's a mentality you really need to look at. Men of stone and honour, or men of Iron and bitter control. Of respect, or of fear. Of blade or of maul.

 

Don't choose a Legion because of looks. Choose one because it fits your mentailty, your heart.

 

Just because I respect the Ultramarines, and could most likely paint one pretty well, doesn't mean I'd have the heart to paint an army of them. Who they are is not who I am.

 

I am a bitter old man, jaded and scarred. I take a quiet pride in accomplishments and my past, even though it was not pleasant. A silent professional, if you will. The Iron Warriors simply fit me to a tee.

 

Find your path, brother. Though it may make you my enemy, I will honour your corpse as i pass.

Based on your avatar, there is no question of what Legion you should choose! The Imperial Fists are the Chapter for you good sir. Unless you want to meet Sigismund on the Table Top and watch him tear thru you champions like a Honey Badger in a Chicken Coop. smile.png
