The Iron Crusade : 7th Batrep 2 and completed Chapter Master

Hey there. I've been playing Black Templars for a good bit now, and have decided to do more than just lurk about the forums. This thread will be for my Black Templar army as they become fully painted - which is a neverending battle. I currently have a modest amount painted, but until my light box arrives (hopefully in the next few days), I can only sample with my Black Templar Imperial Knight:

I'm stoked about 7th edition and have quite a bit of painting planned. I have over 7,500 points worth of stuff that continues to grow each moment. Bases are generic at the moment, as I haven't decided what flock/extra stuff I wanted to add army-wide yet. More to come in the next few days, and hopefully infinitely after that. For the Emperor!

Holy Battle-damege, Batman! laugh.png

Seriously though: Nice Knight! Great color scheme, and the battle damage looks realistic. Awesome work, BUT! Could you take some pictures of the top? What you did to the hatch looks interesting, I'd like to get a better look. tongue.png

And offcourse:

Welcome to the Eternal Crusade, Brother!

Looking forward to seeing the rest of your Crusade!

Ps: If you have unpainted models, and could use some motivation: Join us, in the ETL Painting Challenge, and help us claim victory for the Templars!

Here's all you need to know, if you're interested! http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290382-e-tenebrae-lux-iii-angels-of-death-strategium/?p=3669063

Thanks! I think I did a bit overboard with the battle-damage, but haven't had time to go back and clean it up. It's close to the quality I want my army to look, so moving on to other unpainted things is a much bigger priority. I'll take new pics once my light box gets here. Unfortunately the one I was using was pretty small, especially for the size of the Knight, and had a bit extreme lighting, so the shading on the red paints is lost among other things. Can't wait to get some more pics taken!

I think the forum wants to marry you. That is an awesome and I mean with a capital A, Awesome looking knight. Love the scheme.

Now that we have the formalities out of the way, welcome to the Eternal Crusade Brother! Your timing is excellent! If you are not aware of this, the E Tenebrae Lux forum painting competition is just kicking off (about 15 days left for enrollments). This contest is about you painting the way you like to paint, committing a certain amount of points, and then completing it by July 31st.

You are not obligated to participate, but the details can be found here:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290382-e-tenebrae-lux-iii-angels-of-death-strategium/?p=3669063

We have initiated the Crusade of ZEAL, rallying all brothers who are able to participate as we marshal our forces to eradicate the vile, the heretical, and the unforgiven.

Would you consider joining us brother?

* Note: Your not crazy, we all highlight the word zeal in red because of all the characteristics that embody the Emperor's vision for humanity, zeal is what separates us from other chapters...well that and a very healthy desire to burn witches, but mostly it's the zeal.

Once again, welcome brother!...oops, I'm leaking zeal all over the place.

Hah. Yeah, I should join you on that mission. I can probably pledge a ton of points since I have so many things I need to paint, and I paint pretty quickly. I tend to take 1-2 days on model groups. The Knight took about three days, though, due to wash dry times and whatnot. I'm getting a few Land Raiders in the mail soon that'll need a paint job, so I'll see what I can put forth to help out in the painting competition.

Still no light box. Grr. However, I do have a few older pictures to post until I can get better ones.

My only painted rhino. The lonely painted rhino.

A bit unfinished painting on the Dev. Cents. I'm still undecided on the effect I want to achieve on graviton weaponry, so they wait in limbo.

Unfortunately most of my Black Templar stuff is unpainted. Other than the Imperial Knight, my Dev Cents, a Chaplain, a Rhino, an LRC, and a 5-man Crusader Squad with a flamer (you can see part of that unit in the Rhino picture), nothing I have is painted to the quality I want it. On the plus side, I'm done with two 10-man Crusader Squads that I started the night before I created this thread, so I've pretty much doubled my painted army count. I'm still trying to get the hang of painting black armor, so there's a lot of learning to be had!

To paint checklist:

x10 Sternguard /w x4 combi-metlas

x3 Drop Pods

x3 LRCs

x1 LRR

x1 Vindicator

x1 Custom "Chapel" Void Shield Generator

x15 bikers

x1 Chapter Master bike /w TH/SS

x1 Chapter Master bike /w PF/SS

x1 Custom Cypher

x20 Crusaders (Plasma Guns, Bolters, Lascannons, Melta, Power Fist, etc)

x15 BP+CCW Neophytes

x10 Sniper Scouts

x5 Bolter/shotgun Neophytes

x2 TFCs

x5 Thundernators (once I get them built)

x1 Terminator Chapter Master

x1 Terminator Chaplain

x1 Helbrecht

x2 Land Speeder Storms

x3 Attack Bikes /MM

x2 Stormravens

x10 Custom Honor guard

x1 Ironclad Dreadnought

x2 Assault Centurions (have 1 painted for my Heralds of Ruin Kill Team campaign at my LGS)

x1 Imperial Knight Errant

Uggh...and it keeps growing.

Hopefully my incoming light box fixes my picture issues. The white is reflected a bit too much, and the red shades just blend together. Ah, well. You can see a hint of my Land Raider Crusader in the background of these.

Some really lovely paint jobs there, and I love some of your kit-bashes, the sternguard/dark angel combo came out really well. What a perfect time to have lots of stuff to paint! ETL calls...

Thanks. I'm a huge fan of the Dark Angel kits for Black Templars, but some of it requires a bit of scrapping and sanding. It's worth the work, I think.

ETL Vow 1 has been posted! Should finish these guys pretty quickly, hopefully. After I see Godzilla today, I expect to finish a vehicle or two by the end of tomorrow evening. It's only 875 points worth, but starting small for the new edition's release, in case something gets really amazing and I need to grab one or two and paint'em up quickly (I really want a Las Predator, two or three, really, and I'm looking for an excuse to use a Vindicator over two TFCs).

First vow is coming along nicely. Might have the Emperor's Champion almost done by the end of tonight, and the rhino should be finished up once I decide upon a paint scheme. I got the light box today, so here are some more pics.

My Chaplain:

Assault Centurion. He's my Herald of Ruin Kill Team Leader, and he's a beast. Painting up the rest of the assault squad alongside my first vow.

And some more of the Imperial Knight:

Still a bit blurry/unfocused, but I'll get better at picture taking soon (hopefully :P ).

I second that. The LRC is great. I'd give a try at that too (yeah, I like that idea so much that I wouldn't hesitate to "steal" it), but I can't imagine painting that much white. I hate it, and I suck at it too.

Wow, dude! The epicness level of this subfoum just rose by an estimated 25%! woot.gif So many great models, where to begin?

-The Assault Centurion. Wow man, that tabard, excellent job, I like how the lower half sits behind the armor piece. The red color really makes him stand out too.

-That Land Raider. I can only echo what everyone else said. Great scheme. I wouldn't use it myself, as it isn't my style, but it's really awesome, and well executed too. thumbsup.gif

-The Knight. I said it before and I'll say it again: Awesome work. Also, thank you for the top-view pictures. Once again, excellent work on the battle-damage! And creative use of the Knight decals, I like how you did the left (right in the picture) shoulder pad. yes.gif

-Those Crusaders: Amazing, I love the diversity of bits you used, and still making the squad look like a whole.

Good luck on your vow, and I can't wait to hear of your progress. (alright, I confess, I meant "see your progress".tongue.png)

The white on the LRC was a pain, and it took a lot of coats. It came out fine, but with all the white I would like to go back to do some weathering effects to help tone down the contrast of black and white and metal.

My plan is to take quick pictures of my ETL progress until an entire Vow is finished, then set up the light box for better photographs. So after day 1:

Emperor's Champion and Rhino for my ETL are finished and have just dried their dullcote layer:

Your thread is certainly an inspiration. Wow, just so many cool things in here.

I just love the Templar graffiti. A brilliant idea and the "Taste Zeal" is my favorite.

Rock on Brother, you are on a roll. :)

Ah, the site's back up. Nice too, because I have ETL Vow Progress! Started and Finished the Land Raider Crusader yesterday. I didn't managed to finish the scouts as well, unfortunately, but they're coming along. I've hit the snag in my week that causes my painting to slow down, and it'll slow a bit more once the new book is out and I'm reading/studying that. Still hoping everything for my first vow is completed by Wednesday/Thursday next week.

*The other Land Raider's one be quite this fast to paint. I'm pretty sure this will be my only pure black Land Raider scheme, so that helped with the speed.
