Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors WIP

Hello everybody! So today I have a conversion for you all that has been very challenging for me, and I'm going to show you guys the various stages of the project. I hope you all enjoy

(Quick Warning, this is a fairly large post haha)

Some of you may remember this drawing here I posted a while back:

So for this I've mainly used the Ferrus Manus model, with some other Terminator and various other bits in there.

 We started here:

I shaved off the Iron Hands symbol on the knee here

Clipped off and then shaved down the bare arms so I just got the shoulder pads

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e210/Terimus/Perturabo/IMAG0110_zpsa70e596d.jpg

Some of the arm bits for the Wrist Cannon and then the nearly complete arm. I took a Grey Knight storm bolter, shaved off the barrels and then glued on the tips of an autocannon. I may later try to put a bullet chain from the magazine to his backpack or something. What do you guys think about that?

Up next we have Forgebreaker. I had to do some delicate pinning and greenstuffing to get all the pieces to stay together, and I need to clean up some of the greenstuff, but overall, it turned out pretty good

To get the Terminator hunchback look, I had to greenstuff the backpack up a bit, then I had to add some plastic sheets to lengthen it and get it to come over the head right. As I hate painting faces, I gave him a Grey Knight Terminator head, which I think looks pretty good myself.

Here we have the nearly finished model and the other arm. I used a Grey Knight terminator arm, but I needed it to be longer, so I took part of a psicannon as the gauntlet, since it had some cabling on it.

I want him to be a little bit more level, so I may end up using a different base for him and saving the Ferrus Base for another Primarch project, but I'm not sure quite yet.

I still have some work to do on him, I need to make the tassels hanging from his shoulder pads, do some greenstuff work to the edge of the armor around his head, add a few other bits and bobs, and he should be good!

Thoughts?

First off, let me congratulate you on taking a project from design, to planning, to execution. That shows real dedication and drive. The end result clearly is better for your forethought.

As for my thoughts, the only thing I really think that needs changing is the right hand. It doesn't look natural swinging the hammer like that, not to mention the impracticality of it for gaming and transport purposes. Maybe have it resting on his shoulder? Or brought across his chest? It just looks like a lazy swish motion rather than the devastating swing it should be.

As I said though, this is an incredible amount of work and you should be proud regardless.

I understand what you mean, and thank you for the advice. I was trying to go for a pose that he preparing for a big overhead swing. I don't really wanna go for a casual pose (like the hammer on the shoulder), I really like the idea of Primarchs having a lot of action in their poses. Any ideas for how I could make it more epic?

I think even just rotating the wrist so that it's slightly more vertical and less horizontal would help the sense of a "big overhead swing coming up." Remember, he is already shooting at something, so that's the "action" bit of the pose. You can have implied action with the right hand, but don't try and do both.

I think this is a pretty sweet piece. I agree with Marshall Sampson of Terra; the fact that you put the amount of forethought you did in this piece shows. But I gotta say, I think the pose looks great as it is. It looks like he's doing a full force, twisting from the hips strike to me. That may not be what you were going, for, but that's what I got.

Do you have any plans to block off the area between the neck and backpack area? I think that would make it easier to paint.

Again, great job!

I agree with everyone above in regards to the hammer, but in my own opinion, I don't think the helmet works. It seems too curved to work properly for the Primarch of the IVth Legion, and there aren't enough wires into the back of the helmet to work with his art.

imho, it just looks like a terminator helmet than the helmet of a Primarch, but each to their own.

I can see what you mean by that, I was originally going to use a modified Mk iii helmet, but it was simply way too small, so I went for the next best option, but I may go back to do some work to it.

Wow has it been a long time! I've finally got Perturabo painted (for the most part, I still need to paint his base, but other than that he's practically done.

I used Ironbreaker, Gehenna's gold, and Nuln Oil (all from GW) as the base colors for this fellow.

Thanks everyone! happy.png

Very well executed. Are you planning to paint any smaller details in more color? Alsoo any hazard stripes?

I'll try to get a little bit more detail in on some of the wires and whatnot. I did get a few hazard stripes on his left knee as there wasnt a whole ton of good places for it on the model, but I'll see where else I can add them. Although I do need to get a new yellow for the stripes and the dead Imperial Fist on the base, as the yellow I have now is the wimpiest thing I've ever seen laugh.png
