MindOfMetal's review of the Taghmata

Recommended Posts

The Magos Prime review was written before 7th edition and I hadn't changed it.  I have been having a lot of success with my Archmagos in a unit of Thallax.  A magos with a jetpack has a pretty reasonable amount of manoeuvrability while still being reasonably durable.

I do miss being able to put him in a unit of castellax though.

I hope they do some sort of update for 7th that makes a Magos into an MC. Maybe when you take Ordinator or Macrotek. In an Apoc game you could take Inar Satarael.

Have you modelled a magos with jump pack, or do you just use a Dominus?

Nah, IC status is better. Its one of the annoying things about Magos Domnini, they can't join units :( . Having a meatshield is infinity better than having better stats or MC status. Satarael is fun but he's way overpriced.

You'd probably want the Machinator Array instead though. He doesn't slow Thallax down that much (he can still Run to maintain coherency with the rearmost guy), and the Toughness boost is handy.

I haven't got a set of 7th rules yet, I was think if the Magos was MC, then he could have a Castellax meat shield! (Assuming only MC can join MC)

No, being an MC doesn't allow you to join units, only being an IC does. And IC's, regardless of type, are forbidden from joining units of MC's. They did it to nerf the 40k combo's of Eldrad+Avatar and Support Shas'O+Riptide. Inadvertently, it means your Magos now have to use Tech-Thralls or Thallax as their meatshield now, which is kinda lame.
