4th Tarosian Regiment - Devildog

Recommended Posts

Got the chance to film a BatRep for Bitzbox this Sunday, 1000pts of the 4th Tarosian faced off against my friend Wayne's Raven Guard, and I got the chance to remember how much I dislike the sound of my own voice. :P

That's quite a long video, I had to jump forward to see bits as I don't have sound at work but it looks good. Can't beat a couple of well painted armies fighting on a nice table :) Looks like you came out relatively unscathed in the end, could you provide a written summary for those who can't view the video?

Watching the batrep now as I'm sipping on my morning coffee - so far great stuff! Also, great army. I like the work you've done (I've been stalking this thread among others). Quick question, where/what bits did you use for your melta vets? Did you simply collect bits from several boxes until you've accumulated 3? Or just bought some online... I'm tired of proxying GL's as melta....

  • 2 weeks later...

Some better pictures of the Strigoi Ion Mortar I painted up for the Heroes of the Guard challenge. Quite chuffed with this and I'm hoping to continue the theme of merging Tau and Imperial technology. I've a few ideas that might end up appearing here.

Final Drone Mortar has almost finished being painted. Just some final touches and basing to go. Now I've got a fully painted trio to hide behind cover and mildly harass some Infantry! :P

I'm also setting myself the target of painting a selection of Guardsmen for every more unique or interesting model I paint, so here's a selection of 6 Guardsmen I'm working on that'll bring me up to five painted Infantry Squads. I'm hoping to keep expecting the painted portion of my army bit-by-bit 'til I can field the majority of it painted, which is always a nice feeling:

Be very careful, Guilloom lest the Commisariat, hear you. Coffee, is very persuasive.

Did someone say heresy?

I came as fast as I could...

Excellent work Coffee. If I didn't already have loads of Tau you might have tempted me to do some conversions myself ;)

... and this is why I feel comfortably in this sub-forum, even though it's not my "home". It's just great how accepting something like this is.

A few years back and over in the WIP forum, someone was kitbashing Space Marine and Tau bits; lets just say not all the comments were graceful...

I've found the B&C Barracks to be very welcoming of my heretical project. There's a nice variety of armies here as well. Heck, we even have Squats, two armies if I recall correctly! There's the obligatory heresy comments, but those are tongue-in-cheek, so it's all good. I make sure I'm building stuff that's as much Guard as it is Tau, try to be creative with it, and tie it to a Guard unit entry in the Codex that it'll represent.

I'm aiming to get a load more of the hybrid models painted up, as my friend that runs BitzBox is hoping to get more of that kind of thing in his BatReps. Plus they add a bit of character to the force that helps it stand out, IMO

The slew of Tau bitz and kits soon to be released will be giving me much more fodder for conversions. I've already been debating Bullgryn counts-as Suits which are effectively guys in upsized power armour bearing massive shields. Not to mention all the big gunz I can put on stuff that are coming out lately!

The cool conversions are always good for inspiration, even if they are on the wrong side of the Emperor/Omnissiah's divine light. Plus, its always handy to have a few resident fishies in the ranks to provide advise when riptides start running rampant...

That's him ! Spotted few weeks (or months) ago somewhere on the Internet (with a very cool Tau-ish Techpriest). He led me to the glorious B&C forums ! laugh.png Thanks CoffeeGrunt, your heresy will remain forever "decent" (at least Guard-friendly) to me.

My heresy is a beacon that draws all here. :P

I've been a bit quiet on the painting front for my army, as I've been helping out at a new local store getting terrain up and ready for them. Been trying out various techniques on it, but nothing really worth showing. I got the previously-shown 6 Guardsmen painted up, completing five Infantry Squads with Flamers! Next up I've got a Hydra Emplacement to finish, then a Wyvern:

I also received an order today of three pots of GW Air Tau Light Ochre, and one pot of Runefang Steel. A little thinner and a 100ml dropper bottle later, and I have a hefty reserve of 'Tarosian Sunset' to base coat my models with. Gave it a shot in the airbrush, and a Wyvern that would take a few decent coats to paint was well-covered in about ten minutes! It'll definitely come in handy for doing the heavy work before I touch up details with a brush. Should help me burn through that daunting pile of minis waiting to be painted!

Finally got round to finishing one of my Hydra turrets, using a model from Maxmini. Got a shot here of it on its platform, and also on a Wyvern chassis I'm painting. Now I'll be ready for when the Hydra gets made awesome again!

Also, as is my heretical, xeno-loving wont, I assembled a Ghostkeel today and was left with this interesting piece that happens to have the same profile as a Devidog's Melta Cannon:

Hopefully I can post pics up soon of the result...
