Hello everyone! So I posted a "how to build your own primarch" thread in the How To section, but I wasn't getting any replies, so I thought people might be more likely to see this here, so here's my version of Alpharius!

For this, I used the Forgeworld Cataphractii Praetor model as a base for the conversion.

To start I had to hack apart the legs and cut the torso from the hips.

Terminator torsos are just about the right size for a Primarch's chest area, so I just added some greenstuff to make the abdomen and lengthen it out.

Terminator arms are just a little too short to be used by themselves. I added some greenstuff between the torso and the shoulder, then used the blade of the Exacto to get the “flex subsuit” look. Then I add some greenstuff to the wrist and then put the hand

I cut the legs again at the shins so I could make those a little longer too. Plastic Terminator shins are roughly the same size as a Primarch’s, only slightly shorter, but Cataphractii legs are more noticeably so. Then I just added more greenstuff to the thighs to get the right height. This is the big money-maker on the height of the Primarch. I always keep a Marine nearby when doing this part as the marine should come up to about the Primarch’s waist area to have the right size.

Every Primarch deserves a freaking amazing weapon!  For Alpharius, I’ve decided to make his xenos weapon, the Pale Spear, a kitbashed Necron-type weapon. I know in Extermination it describes it as being double bladed, but sadly I couldn't get my hands on another one of these blades, so I had to make due with what I had.

Not every Primarch needs a cape, but some look really nice with one, not to mention that it can help hide some of the greenstuff that may not look very good on the back of the model. A simple cape solution is using thin carboard, obtained from cereal boxes, GW boxes, etc. It is thin, fairly flexible (for getting the shape you want), and can be hardened up easily by simply applying liquid superglue. For Alpharius here, I’ve added the cardboard as a type of waistcloth and then another one as his cape/Cameleoline, which I’ve added Greenstuff folds and Alpha Legion Symbol to it (which was really difficult to sculpt, not gonna lie).

I've done some work to the Ferrus Manus base to give Alpharius the height I wanted him to have.

For Alpharius I’ve done some work to a standard marine helm to give it a sort of Roman look similar to what he has in the Extermination artwork. Here's the complete model! As shown, he is just as tall as a Forgeworld Primarch.

I may still try to add some scales or something to parts of the model, but other than that, he's essentially finished.

Thats the hotness, well executed. Would love to see him all painted up, now I know how I'm gonna make my own primarch once I get some cash to pony up to forgeworld, hehe.

haha I'm glad I could inspire!happy.png Which Legion are you playing and what Primarch would that be?

As well, I'd also suggest trying this method out on a plastic terminator first to get the method down, cause the resin can be a little scary to work with when hacking it up, cause you don't want to lose the details

hacked up plenty of termies smile.png No legion yet want to make my own missing one tongue.png create a Primarch

Very nice! I admire a man who has the guts to go for building a lost legion! Tis no simple task, but a worthy one indeed haha Let me know how it goes, I'd love to see it!smile.png

Somehow I was expecting a totally ordinary Alpha Legionnaire.

The model looks great though.

Haha I can understand your reasoning there, a lot of people do that, but in Book III: Extermination, it describes him as sometimes wearing a more ornate suit that definitely sets him apart as a Primarch, and that's what I wanted to show, the glory of a Primarch smile.png

So I decided to add some scales to the waist robe and to one of the shoulders just to see how it turned out. I think it may look a bit better once I get it all painted.

I like it! The fact that its not "SCALES EVERYWHERE AHAHAHH!" helps a lot. It's just in the right amount to make it a nice touch and are also small enough and uniform enough to look like proper lizard scales.
