My Space Wolf tutorial

Hey guys, posted this in the tutorial section of the forum but thought it'd maybe be more useful posted here too.

It's a tutorial detailing how I paint my Space Wolves in dark grey armour as opposed to the blue GW use.

Feel free to check it out amd leave me any comments and or criticisms regarding the article or the painting itself.

Hope someone finds it useful. smile.png

Very nice for the most part, also rather useful as I'm on the verge of my 2nd Wolf army, going for the older grey armour. The Gold is especially useful. I do have a couple of questions/oberservations though.

Why use Eshin Grey rather than Mechanicus Standard?

I'm not really sold on the white highlight on the eye lenses and the Administratum Greyhighlight on the armour, they don't seem to add enough to the model to be worth the effort.

The battle damage is also far to subtle imo, its hardly noticeable (although something may be lost in the photo), and hence potentially not worth the effort.

I use Eshin grey as that was what I had to hand when I did my test model and I liked the colour. :P

The white on the eyes is just so that once I apply the glaze the centre of the eye is brighter and lends itself better to a glow effect.

The second highlight on the armour, and the battle damge, are something that my camera phone fails to pic up unles you zoom in really far on the picture. However both are noticable with the model in hand and serve to add an extra layer of depth and detail.

Also with the battle damage I'm looking to try out the sponge method next to improve the effect.

Thanks for taking the time to read through my article, I genuinely appreciate the feedback. :)

This is great Mikey!! I second the inclusion of each paint pot, it's very helpful for those of us who are visual learners.

We (more just me...) need more of this kind of thing here!! I know there are some tutorials in the resources section, but some are rather old and outdated. I personally love to see and read and watch how other hobbyists go about their processes.

End of Line

That is a great tutorial, and the grey armour looks great. Making me reconsider what I have done using standard mechanicus grey, although I am sure it can easily be adapted.

Great work and much better than the tutorials I have tried cobbling together.

Thanks.  Glad you liked it. :)
