I'm falling in love with white scars. Ideas?

So I've got a fever lately...and the only cure is more White Scars.

I'm an avid watcher of Templarscrusade01's channel over on youtube and I've seen his stuff lately:

Mind you, this came directly after I started reading Chris Wraight's new novel on them. I've began to fall in love with them and am thinking about doing them as a next force instead of my World Eaters (damn you FW and BL!!!). I like their vibes with storm seers leading them and their whole mounted warfare deal.

Do you guys think that I could play this force in favor of my Dark Angels as well? Kind of like a mounted combat brotherhood where both forces have strong martial pride but ultimately respect each other's skill in warfare?

If I was to use a crude example, this is how I'd see the force-

Dark Angels-> They are tactically flexible but favor a strong unit made up of the best fighters their legion has to offer as a mailed fist to punch through the toughest part of the enemy line. Said unit is supposed to resemble a king/lord surrounded by his most valued knights.

White Scars-> they whittle away at the enemy until the time is ripe to strike, then they hit like a sack of bricks. I imagine the army largely composed of smaller tacticals in rhinos, jetbikes, Sicarans, terminators in a land raider, and the force led by a librarian.

I feel like the two forces overlap a bit (which might explain why I love them so much) but I need an idea going forward.

What other units do you see WSs using? Such as destroyers, assault marines, etc.

What luck have you guys had with painting white? When I tried world eaters, it was a pain and looked terrible. Is getting an airbrush in order?

What is your opinion of WSs and DAs working together? Both legions were very secretive, kept to themselves, and were very unpredictable in the eyes of their brothers. Are Jaghati Khan and the Lion two sides of the same coin?

I can see the Lion and the Khan respecting each other for their military prowess. I'm not sure how they would interact on the battlefield or in the strategium. Perhaps kindred spirits? Perhaps their shared quiet and brooding nature would lead to tensions. I'd like to think they would get along.

Either way, you can easily work these forces together. I have also tossed around the idea of White Scars as an additional detachment for my eventual legion forces. Such a neat, quick, force.

Hey Depthcharge

You changing your mind again...thought I could smell procrastination around here haha..

Sounds like a good plan mate, loadsa jetbikes would look cool..

An airbrush would deffo help with the white aswell as saving time on painting..use a very very light grey and just highlight edges with pure white...the annoying bit would be choosing the right shade of red for the markings...and applying them neatly.

Have you got much in the way of pre heresy reference for them...cant seem to find much myself

Least there are transfefs available at the moment which will be handy..

How far will you be going on converting models to look barbaric or would it be clean lines?

Good luck

White Scars are probably my second, nearly my first favourite legion, the only problem is they have no models and won't have any for sometime and they also won't have rules for a long time and I find painting white a pain, although it's gotten better with the introduction of the new paints, I still ain't got the skill to pull them off to the standard I'd want.

On to the issue of units, they maintain every unit apart from Dreadnoughts which go against their beliefs. In Brotherhood of the Storm, we saw a Terran based brotherhood who used typical tactics of other legions, such as laying down fire with heavy weapon squads and slowly advancing.

They don't have any dreadnoughts at all? I never knew that.

Yeah, they don't believe in capturing the warriors spirit and would prefer for it to be released into the afterlife they believe in. Personally I love dreadnoughts, so that's kind of a letter down for me but I appreciate the reason.

Yeah I've had a hell of a time deciding :P

I'm definitely going to do a lot of red tribal patterns on the Scars to break up the monotony of white. I won't have a problem with that haha, it's the white that's going to kill me.

I will start green stuffing things and try to improve those skills, I imagine that my storm seer will be really kit bashed and unique.

That could be an ethos that got when they were reunited with the khan.

There could be Terran dreadnaughts in the ranks, which the Mundas plants marines look upon with sorrow.

See I love contemptors and was trying to think of a possible way to incorporate one. I think that's a fantastic idea, and I hope FW doesn't rule hem out of a WS force.

Maybe do the fluff of him as a warrior with purpose that wants to keep fighting, but his body is broken

Hmmm...It might if you fuse it with some Asian themes that are similar enough. On its own, it might be too different.

The main reason I say that is, per the fluff, the recruited 100% (or close to) males of Asiatic descent.

Though, barring the above, I'd love to see what you'd be able to come up with.

Does anyone think that a Native American theme might work for White Scars?

Though the Scars did recruit heavily from Asiatic cultures a lot, I could see some experimentation happening early in their history, as the gene-smiths searched for the perfect candidates.

I say, go for it.

Dive without a second thought in the White scars awesomeness ! I have exactly the same vision as you do : Rhino tacticals, jetbikes, Sicarians and above all Stormseers.

I've been pushed aside from the hobby for a long time, but am slowly going back to my 30k Scars.

White is not as difficult as it looks, and even if the FW dedicated minis are far away, there's plenty of room to make a characterfull 30k army. I'm currently kitbashing a stormseer and hope to be able to show him soon.

I need a fellow WS 30k army to motivate me (and vice-versa) :)
