Daemon2027
I can't wait for the Custodes to be released. I think someone said that the designers said that Valdor will be almost at the level of a Primarch, so I would imagine that normal Custodes will be better then marines but not lord of war levels. Maybe slightly stronger the the Gal Vorbak. Still a group of them could take down a Primarch I would think. And if they are fighting alone a pack of space marines should take a Custodes down. That's how I see it anyway. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296661-lets-talk-custodes/page/2/#findComment-3808503 Share on other sites
spu00sed
There does seem to be levels of custodians. We have seen the black armou/helmet level Those with sword and board and some sort of spear These with the guardian spear and punts helmets Terminator armoured dudes Somewhere in this are also hone jet bike riders and the companions Old fluff also has there being at least 1000 custodes (two legions were on the verge of breaking fighting an Ork waaaghs, emperor and his boys teleport down and break the waaaghs only losing three men) and 200 companions. We also now they have some very top tier kit (the disguises that change the wearers appearance and size). And that they are utterly fearless in their duty. Two have faced down primarchs. They seem to be in par with the gar vorbak. I could easily see FW going with something like HQ Constinine Valdor Generic captain Elite Terminator Companions Dreadnaughght talon Troops Bolter squads Sword and board squads Assault squads Fast attack Storm eagle Jet bikes Land speeders Heavy support Heavy support squad* Land raiders *they did engage in full engagements so would have such units The allied matrix would also be interesting. I hope they make it for before the heresy (like the matrix form book 1). I'm sure they had good relationships with the word bearers and emperors children. Daemon2027
I dont think they had a good relationship with the World Bearers, with the exception of Argal Tal. Wade Garrett
Maybe slightly below Primarch Stats. He did tie horus in a duel though...Probably on par or a bit weaker than Lorgar. I've heard this bit about Valdor dueling Horus several times in these discussions, but I've never been able to find the source of it. Is this from a White Dwarf article, Collected Visions, or.....? Slips
I actually don't know either Wade... I've read it somewhere I just don't remember @_@ EDIT: I FOUND THE MENTION!!! Constantine Valdor was one of the first High Lords of Terra chosen after the end of the Horus Heresy to guide the Imperium forward following the Emperor's internment within the Golden Throne. He also had a close relationship with the Primarchs Rogal Dorn and Leman Russ, although initially Russ and Valdor did not see eye to eye. Dorn was ever-present at the Imperial Palace during the Great Crusade and so Valdor and the Primarch spent much time together. On the other hand, Valdor only earned Russ' respect when the former defeated Horus in a sparring match.... Wade Garrett
Oh. THAT wiki. Personally, l'd go with "some bloke I met in a pub this one time" over warhams40kwiki, especially since that article doesn't bother to cite sources for many of its more...grandiose claims. And some of the sources they do give directly contradict the article itself, for example the line in Blood Game by Dan Abnett about how no one would be reckless enough to wager on the outcome of a contest between an Astartes and a Custodes stands in rather stark contrast to wiki's statement that the Custodes are to the Space Marines as the Marines are to the lmperial Guard. Slips
Yeah I know...That wiki... Sadly its the only place I could find "Documented" or "semi-kinda-but-not-really-official" mention of Constantin actually beating Horus in a sparring match... spu00sed
I dont think they had a good relationship with the World Bearers, with the exception of Argal Tal. The reason I tight they could have gotten in was that the word bearers were originally called the imperial heralds. And tried to follow the imperial non creed to the letter. My matrix would be Dark angels: probably worked closely with them so would have respect for their ability. Emperors children: bonded over the emperor stunned by a vortex weapon and we died covering him. Thought the fan boi copying is grating Iron warriors: strong and loyal, can be counted on. somewhat extreme at times White scars: too unruly to be really trusted Space wolves: too unruly to be trusted, thought the boss says they are cool. Imperial fists: brought in to help the custodes as protectors, might have been annoying if we weren't super loyal Night lords: wrong tactics to be friends Blood angels: a shinning beacon of the imperium. Need to check on where wings appear in the human genome Iron hands: somewhat brutal in their approach World eaters: not what was wanted or needed Ultramarines: good warriors, though their empire building needs to be watched closely Death guard: need to ultise their strengths more Thousand sons: like that their primarch is similar to the emperor, not so sure about their actions (pre warp breach) Luna wolves: loyal and excellent fighters World bearers: dedicated to the Empeor and his vision Salamanders: dedicated to rebuilding humanity Raven guard: unorthodox tactics, might be interesting to watch for the blood games Alpha legion: unorthodox tactics, might be interesting to watch for the blood games, wait why is my armour covered in hydra symbols? Wade Garrett
Obviously, the solution is for someone to PM ADB and have him add a scene to his next Black Legion book: "I was there, the day Horus lost to Valdor in a sparring match..." "NO ONE CARES!" ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296661-lets-talk-custodes/page/2/#findComment-3809959 Share on other sites

Daemon2027
Custodes related question, do we know their size compared to a regular Astartes? Slips
Well, Constantin Valdor is described as being as big as Alpharius (the smallest Primarch) but I think they also mention him being rather large for a Custodes. So...maybe a half a head taller than an astartes? Hyaenidae
Valdor is indeed a big boy... http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111125223251/warhammer40k/images/4/4c/God_Emperor_with_Adeptus_Custodes_and_Slient_Sisters.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296661-lets-talk-custodes/page/2/#findComment-3811183 Share on other sites
Russ Brother 92
I'd agree to half a head, perhaps even a full head taller in the case of Valdor? Also what sort of specialist weaponry do you think we can expect (aside from Guardian spears)? edit - evidently Valdor is a fair whack taller than Astartes unless the big E is in 'short mode'. Fire Golem
I'd say Big E is in short mode there as he's not thattt much taller than the Sisters of Silence there, and as far as I remember they're basically normal humans right? Slips
Specialist Gear? I'd probably give them no "gets hot" plasma with a rather high price increase, owing to them being the Emperors personal guardians and thus being the best equipped short of the Primarchs. Super Volkites? Maybe we'll see some of the Weapons named on page 49* of Extermination that were used by the Imperial Fists : Volkite Implosion-Spheres, Nega-Phosphex Webs and Lightning-Phage? (I really want to know golly gee a Volkite Implosion-Sphere is and what it does....) As we've previously talked about I believe they'll come standard with 2+ armor and a 4+ invul when in Terminator without the Cataphractii Restriction, maybe? I hope they get access to the Grav-Rhino, that'd be cool. I'd put this in the realm of "highly unlikely" but a Grav-Land Raider would be pretty awesome... Perhaps they'll be grouped up with the Sisters of Silence in a kind of "Guardians of the Emperor" force and have them be an Anti-Psyker, Deathcult Assassin + Sororitas units, perhaps as elites or troops? Probably Fast Attack. *right most column, first Paragraph under the red blurb. I'd say Big E is in short mode there as he's not thattt much taller than the Sisters of Silence there, and as far as I remember they're basically normal humans right? Well, if you don't count them all having the Pariah Gene as being exceptional, then yes, they're "normal" (they serve under direct order of the Big E..how normal can they be) Human Women that have a vow of Silence (its in their name, lol :p ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296661-lets-talk-custodes/page/2/#findComment-3811201 Share on other sites
Fire Golem
Well yeah I meant in terms of size, they aren't genetically/surgically augmented like Astartes or Primarchs ;) and I hope we get the grav Rhino too cos that things awesome haha. Quick almost related question (cos some of the art here is from it) - Is Visions of Heresy worth getting? Slips
...Well, if the Sisters (both the Adepta and of Silence) get released(redone) you might've worn her down enough that she joins you on the Heresy Train. I was about to post the Picture again but decided not to :P Even if she doesn't get sisters (of both kinds) having someone else close by to practice with / FORGE THAT NARRATIVE is always nice + it serves as bonding / alone time...with lots of resin/plastic toys (not those toys -_-) so hey! ....But back to Custodes... What I'm curious about is how much of the Generic Legion stuff will bleed over to them that isn't a forgone conclusion : Terminators + Contemptor Dreads and some Vehicles, etc. I mean, its mentioned that they number at least a thousand and them being the Big E's personal boys, lends them to having probably one of the most unique Loadouts in terms of units and gear. I'm willing to put faith into our Lord Alan Bligh, has done nothing but good from my PoV. Fire Golem
I've tried to get her into it before, she really likes the look of the Space Wolves so the Sisters of Silence would go well with that haha. I'm guessing there'll be Custodes Terminators, and Dreadnoughts, because there's art for them but yeah I dunno what else there'll be. Land Raiders? Spartans?
