Obeliske
I can, and they are "regular" humans. It just bothers me bringing allied detachments and such. I wanna be able to field just my team! I realize they are in my codex but as they have a codex of their own now to (though it needs some fleshing out if they are to be their own viable team IMO). That to me means they belong to that team. Come 8th edition they probably won't be in my codex anymore and as such I don't want to come to rely on them. Retiring models until they become viable again is very different from having models become part of a new team (such as what happened with Beastmen in WH-F). I don't want to have allied detachments if I can avoid it. I definately have a very viable team and as such should be able to avoid having allies in most games. On another note I played another game with my wife last night this time fielding 1 unit of Infantry w. Flamer & Rocket Launcher W.Flakk W. attached commisar in a Chimera equipped with duel Heavy Flamers. 1 devil dog (I think) (its the one with poison anyway) and a flamer 1 hydra w.flamer 2 Sentinal W.Lascannons & Hunter Seeker Missiles I was able to beat her hands down she actually got mad at me because her stuff didn't get across the board to engage me in melee. I pointed out I am a shooty army and she wasn't running nor did she use any cover.... She's still pissed at me today. We did run into a problem we were unable to resolve however, I hit with a center blast on her warriors (3 wounds each) one had 2 wounds previously, rules state all wounds go to this fellow first to remove him from the board. Then on to the closest model as per normal rules which happened to be her squad leader type guy, there remained 2 wounds neither of which saved, how does this interact with the "lookout sir" rule? WarriorFish
The Banewolf is the poison tank, well done on your victory! Maybe you don't want to hear this but perhaps for the sake of marital bliss it sounds like you shouldn't be playing your wife... I don't think this should change how LO,S works but I don't have my rulebook handy so I can't double check it for you. Obeliske
In the end we ruled she had to make 2 as both hits would have targeted him (the leader) (as he was the closest model) she passed both and then passed her armor check on one of the shots and so one shot hit the regular trooper still remaining in the unit. During the proceeding turn all wounds were allocated to him as the rules state and then the leader was killed as the only remining model. LASCANNONS ARE FUN!!! Obeliske
Well picked up a Valkrie and some Bullygryns today. Loading the Valkrie with lascannon and missile pods and sponsons. Got the Bullygryns cause I like the model and the wife will enjoy that I have somebody running across the table to melee with her (built them with mauls though for myself I'd have gone grenade gauntlets). WarriorFish
The Valkyrie is cool, takes a bit of effort to build and paint but is well worth it. I'm still waiting to get some Bullgryns - soon! Obeliske
So I played a game with the Valkrie I've got it equipped with Missile pods a lascannon and the Heavy 3 option (the name escapes me at the moment). I immediatly went after a mostrous creature on my Tau roomates list and figured out its not going to be as effective vs air or tanks as I was hoping (hence the lascannon). Though its going to be amazing for medium and light infantry. Played my bullygryns with the mauls and found their toughness is an amazing boon when your charging Tau (as their overwatch is everything within 6") they easily withstood 3 seperate squads of withering fire taking 5 wounds across the three models ( thanks to lookout sir rolls nobody died) and hit an amazing 11 times out of a possible 12 wounding 9 times out of that. I pulped his charged squad horrifyingly. Which was awesome! In return the wife charged them with her carnifex which managed to kill 2 and give the third 2 wounds. As we shared the same initiative I managed a whopping 5 wounds in return (out of a possible 9) and killed it off. We called the game at that point with me being the winner as I had lost 1 infantry and 2 bullygryns at that point whereas my Tau roomate had lost everything but 2 elite units and my wife has lost everything but one unit of warriors. On a side note we started building out own terrain last night. I'm rather excited abut the results we picked up a sheet of pink insulation foam from our hardware store for 6$ then went to the dollor store and picked up decorative foam for vases (its like a powdered foam comes in variosu colors) a bottle of white pva glue a bunch of crap brushes and several 2 oz bottles of acrylic paint. Put it all in a big container and mixed it up its turned into a stucco like substance and we painted out insulation with it after cutting out shapes and glueing them together. All in all about 15$ worth of stuff and 2 hours of time for the three of us and we have 3 really great looking pieces of scenery. If somebody will walk me through it I'd love to put up some pictures. Something I've come across and was wondering about. Pintle hitche weapons... can't find rules on em in the rule book nor my codex but all the tanks I own have hitches... where would I find some rules on them please and thank you? Jacinda
Why not just host them here? Up at the top on the right, click Gallery. Click the "Upload" button. Click "Create an Album" button. Give it a name and a short description. Leave everything else as default for now, but you may want to see what toggles are there in case you want to use some of the advanced features for a future album. Click "Save" to return to the upload screen. Click the "Select Album" button. Click on the album we just created and then click the "Select Album" button and it will take you back to the upload screen with your album selected. Now you are all set to start uploading all your porn pictures. One the left near the bottom is where you enter the location of the picture you want to upload. If it is on your computer, just click "browse" and navigate to the file. Click "Upload." When it finishes uploading, click "Review and Publish." Give it a Name, add tags, and write a short description or a copyright notice if you want. When you have any changes made, click "Finish and Publish." Once all this is done you will be looking at your album in your Gallery. Click the picture you want to link to open up. Right click the picture and select "Direct Link" from the options. You can now copy the URL from your browser's address bar. Now ... in your post where you want the picture ... you can either use the editor tool (looks like a little picture icon on the editor's tool bar) or just insert it by pasting the URL right in and then surround it with image tags like [i M G] fliename [/ I M G] without the spacesin the tags. Once you have the first one done you can upload more without having to go through the album creation again. Just click Gallery, Upload and browse to the file. Obeliske
Thanks Warrior I'll take a look when I get home sorry about taking so long to reply been really busy lately. On the plus side I've managed to get 3 games so I'm learning but we have run into a few things I need clarification on and I finally got those pictures I was talking about getting. I guess I'll start with the rules stuff. Torrent special rule all it says is that the small end has to be closer to the firing vehicle than the long end and that it has to cover as many models as possible in the targeted unit. Can it then be manuvered to hit a second target with the tail end of the template, for instance targeting 3 bullygryns and by menuvering the tail end hit a tank as well? How does a dedicated transport act in overwatch. -- A two parter here. First how do the guys inside said tank react do they get to fire (I'm assuming yes). If they are outside the transport and they get charged does the transport if within range get to fire overwatch? The codex says its part of the unit that it brings into the game however the tank doesn't have to keep unit coherency so is it really part of the group? My final question goes back to the flyers and template stuff. Can a flamer hit a flying monstrous creature (it was swooping at the time) I know template weapons cannot ever hit zooming flyers but as long as they have skyfire blasts can hit non-zoomers. The problem is the flame template isn't a blast and so doesn't say it can or can't make snapshots anywhere that I was able to locate. As long as its possible to make snapshots it should be able to hit a swooping flyer I think. Can anybody show me otherwise please? Finally the pictures part!! Here's the army so far. Though I will ahve to retake the pictures with teh sentinal without the flash. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137759-img-20140930-070949/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137756-img-20140930-070956/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137757-img-20140930-070911/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137758-img-20140930-070926/ Here's the terrain so far. It still needs a lot of work though I'm loving the texture so far. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137764-img-20140930-070754/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137763-img-20140930-070741/ http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/137765-img-20140930-070821/ Hmmm that didn't seem to work... I was attempting to put the pictures in the post itself. Though it did give links to the pics so it's not a complete loss They are in the gallery but I don't seem to be able to put them on the page it keeps saying I can't use that extension. I'll work on it later at home and get more pics posted as I finish more tanks. The infantry have a mix of white paint, glue, and baking soda for the snow. The sentinals have the GW snow texture. I have to work on the GW stuff it looks like concrete while I appreciate the speed with which it dried it definately requires painting (its grey like concrete) and with whats on there I used a half a container of the stuff and I definately feel it needs to be built up more in spots to look more natural. WarriorFish
When you retake the pictures scale them down a bit more, then you can put them inline in your posts for people to view easier I like the colour scheme, the colours go well together Regarding the rules someone will have to confirm but as far as I know: 1) the torrent rule only refers to the maximum number of models in the target unit - as long as this is true and the tail of the template is closest to the tank then it doesn't matter what else you do as it is within the rules. 2) vehicles can't overwatch, and that includes their passengers unless there are some special rules in play like fire barrels. 3) a flamer template can't target anything that is zooming or whatever you call the MC version (swooping?). Flamers can't snap shot either, only "wall of death" against an assaulting unit (still no vehicle wall of death). I'm afraid I don't have rule book pages to clarify, but I'll find them for you next opportunity if someone hasn't already done so edit: the problem is you're linking to the gallery page, not the image itself. I was going to fix this for you but the images are too large to put in post content. You'll need to get the image's path from it's page. Click "Options" in the top right next to the "Upload" and "Follow" links and select "Share links" from the drop down. From here you have several choices. I prefer to take just the Image link (3rd down) and paste it into the image dialogue (the landscape picture under the smiley button and to the right of the add and remove link buttons). If you're still having problems PM me and I'll help you out :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296864-hoping-for-some-advice/page/2/#findComment-3822113 Share on other sites
Warhead01
2) vehicles can't overwatch, and that includes their passengers unless there are some special rules in play like fire barrels. Obeliske
Scout sentinals are open topped though I believe they get to overwatch as part of their walker status. That's really all I can say on open vehicles Wall of death I'm aware of but nowhere I can find does it say flame templates cannot hit flyers only blast ones are refered to. Need some sort of answer on the infantry being charged with a vehicle as I've equiped my Chimera's with heavy flamers so they get the wall of death special rule and according to the rules that will inflict 2D3 (1D3 each) automatic wounds on a charging target. As the chimera is considered part of the unit it's being a dedicated transport for it should get to overwatch in the assault phase should the infantry get charged as they aught to get to overwatch should their tank get charged. As long as said weapons are within range. The rules as I recall says blasts cannot hit them and its does so in a round about way. Blasts cannot snapshot and as such cannot hit flyers however the flame template says no such thing that I could find. Your right about assault though it instead has the wall of death special rule inflicting an automatic 1D3 S4 hits. Swooping flyers can be shot at with blasts provided the blast has the skyfire special rule (Valkrie's rocket pods or mysterious objectives come to mind). Only zooming flyers are completely immune to blasts wether thats an oversite or intended I'm not sure and as far as I know it's not in the FAQ at all but I can't even find the dang rules Faq (though I did find the rest on the black library website). I appreciate your quick response time BTW I agree about the Torrent but I wanted to make double sure because I can definately see some areas for abuse on that I was also unaware that vehicles passangers are unable to overwatch that seems a little odd. What about ie. Chimera filled with infantry one of whom has a flamer? Again wall of death special rule comes into play but if Infantry don't get to shoot at all obviously he's SOL I'll mess with the pics more when I get home my work computer is unable to right click the OS is so old >.< I really like the scheme to but normally I pick 3 colors 2 complimentry and 1 clashing this really feels like its missing something to me TBH. WarriorFish
Vehicles can't overwatch, the open topped bit is just in reference to passengers. Flamers get D3 automatic hits on charging units, under the wall of death rule. As for the flame template, best to think of it as a special subset of the template rule. I should have some time tonight to poke the rulebook for you and find the page numbers, at the moment I'm going from memory and I've not had my morning tea yet! :P I see what you mean about the "clashing" colour, though I'd probably call it a prominent colour or some such - something that stands out a little and draws the eye to detail. This is usually easiest to do by painting aquilas and skulls something nice. For my muted colour scheme a white aquila stands out, along with some gold details on officer details but I think your scheme works really well without this. It might be difficult to find a colour that can provide the extra shiny that doesn't take away from the complementary colours. Maybe a gold could work, probably the non-orange one whatever that's called now (used to be Burnished Gold)? Goonbandito
Just to clarify the Vehicles and Overwatch rules: * Vehicles, in general, cannot Overwatch. * Walkers (like a Sentinel) can Overwatch, despite also being Vehicles. In fact Walkers in general act much more like Infantry than other Vehicles. Don't forget your Sentinels can declare a Charge and lock units up in Close Combat. It can be super effective if you need to "tarpit" a unit that can't or will struggle to hurt AV12 (basically tie up an enemy unit in a useless combat so it can't go after your more important units). * Passengers in a Transport can Overwatch as normal, by shooting out of any available Fire Points as per normal for a shooting attack. For example, 2 models could Overwatch out of the Fire Point on a Chimera's top hatch. If you had an Open-Topped Vehicle (say an Ork Trukk), then every passenger would be able to Overwatch since the entire hull is counted as a Fire Point for everyone inside. If the transport is Wrecked or Exploded! in the Assault Phase, passengers disembark as normal for a Wrecked or Exploded! result and are not locked in combat. As the chimera is considered part of the unit it's being a dedicated transport... This is incorrect - a dedicated transport is a completely separate unit in all respects from the unit that bought the transport. Also you cannot mix vehicle and non-vehicle models in one unit btw. In case this comes up again, this is how it works: * Wounds are generally always allocated closest to closest, so the closest model in the targeted unit to the firing unit has to take the wounds first (this can be slightly confusing to a new player using Blast template - you don't actually wound the specific models under the blast template^^). If there is more than one model that could be considered the closest, then the player that owns the targeted models can choose between those models which one takes the wounds. However once you start allocating wounds from a specific wound pool to a model, you have to keep allocating to that same model until either the model is removed as a casualty or the wound pool empties. Note that means if you have different wound pools you could choose to start allocating the other wound pool to a different model, as long as that model is a valid target (ie closest). * Lookout Sir! has to be taken *before* you roll saves. So if the Squad Leader had wounds allocated to him, you would roll the Lookout Sir! first and if successful allocate the wound to the next closest non-character model (who can then attempt a Saving Throw as normal). Sometimes, to speed things up or maybe just plain forgetfulness, people will make Lookout Sir! rolls after they fail saving throws, though note that this is technically against the rules. However if everyone in the Unit has the exact same Saving Throw, it probably doesn't matter especially if it's just a friendly game. But certainly if you have mixed saves in the Unit then you have to Lookout Sir! before you start rolling saves. This can mean you might have to roll saves individually instead of all at once and Lookout Sir! when it comes up as appropriate. ^^Unless of course the weapon using the Blast template also has the Barrage special rule, in which case the center of the blast template is considered the source of the wounds and you allocate closest from hole.
