Dantay VI
Thanks HvitrValdyr  I went with option 1 in the end  I am still in 2 minds over the Leviathan. Something to me feels a little bit off. Considering changing the gold on the shield to steel or silver as I am not sure if it is too much bling. I am also not sure what to do with the right shoulder. Go black like the left knee, or do it cream like the other, or a combination of both and do like a long Fang or Wolf Guard marking. I am happy how the transfer turned out, but wish I had filed off the rivets below. Being offshore I cannot use the mirosol and microset, so I had to reply on getting it smoothed down myself. Maybe it will disappear under the weathering. I am also thinking of darkening the red stripes to match up to the wolf symbol as I am not sure if the 2 reds a clashing a little.  Thoughts?  dd10 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dd2 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dd3 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dd8 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dd7 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dd4 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr Kassill, Konnavaer and Bjorn Firewalker 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296905-15-shades-of-grey-a-new-start-with-primaris/page/30/#findComment-4910793 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Didnt feel much like painting the dread last night, so did something else.  Painted the half built base :D  I know I still need to add all the rubble etc to go around all the milliputt moulded debris, but I just wanted to see roughly how it would look when all mocked up  based11 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr based07 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr based09 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr based04 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr based02 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr based01 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr Krakendoomcool, Graymane and Bjorn Firewalker 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296905-15-shades-of-grey-a-new-start-with-primaris/page/30/#findComment-4912327 Share on other sites

Dantay VI
Thanks Bjorn, but you may not be so impressed in a moment...  So I did something a bit daft last night.  I got bored, and decided to scratch up my nice shiny leviathan.  dreddy or not 02 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 03 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 06 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 05 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 07 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 08 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 10 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 01 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  dreddy or not 04 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Still struggling to make weathering work on grey, anybody got any tips??  Thanks for looking. Dantay VI
Finished, for now. Will re-do the base when I get home.  Painted up the drill so he could switch between the 2 if needs be.  Also tried some brown instead of black on both the cream and grey to see how it would look.  Let me know what you think.  dun1 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dun3 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dun4 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dun6 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dun5 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr dun7 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Thanks for looking :) Graymane 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296905-15-shades-of-grey-a-new-start-with-primaris/page/30/#findComment-4914457 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Back to my other projects.  Hvarl.  I am looking at axes for him. HvitrValdyr
I like the first axe from certain angles. I think the lower haft is too thick. The head itself also seems a little on the thick side. I think it has more potential than the other 2 though. Graymane
Love the axe head as is. Not sure on the haft. It's a bit thick and a little curtain rail ish. However a straight handle isn't right either. Possibly wire/ greenstuff a bone style handle keeping that slight curve. With you on the ammo drums though. Needs slimming down. On the whole, however, I really like it (as with most of your stuff). :) Keep it coming! Interested to see where you go with it. :D Â Cheers, Â GM Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296905-15-shades-of-grey-a-new-start-with-primaris/page/30/#findComment-4920402 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Cheers guys. Â Took a grinder to the axe and gave the edge more of a profile. I also replaced the axe haft with something curvier. Â Unfortunately I forgot to take photos before leaving for work. Â So 3 weeks one model. Do I paint a Sicaran Venator or a Primaris Lightning? Dantay VI
So I have decided to do a flyer...  And it will be in non-Space Wolves colours  That way either my old man or me can use it in-game (if he ever chooses an army)  I want to do a Star Wars inspired colour scheme, but I am torn between the traditional star wars colour scheme or Poe damarans fighter colours  RedFive_X-wing_SWB by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  The off white colour will be okay to work with, the dark patches and the yellow will make nice contrasting colours and the lighter main colour will help show weathering and battle damage  818fT6-TgYL._SX425_ by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  The black could look killer  So what are your thought?  This is where the Lightning is at just now, just sketching around. Also the black is just primer (which went on horrible, due to freezing conditions in the garage), so it will get painted over no matter what  poe5 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr poe7 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr poe8 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr poe 2 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Oh, I semi-considered this scheme also  rvl06696pic5 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Thanks for looking Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296905-15-shades-of-grey-a-new-start-with-primaris/page/30/#findComment-4932105 Share on other sites
Graymane
You considered Wraith squadron colours? Standard off-white x-wing, grey trim. You could do bone ish off-white lightning, grey trim. Bjorn Firewalker
The Lightning looks great! Is it a Space Wolves flyer, or an Imperial Navy flyer from an allied detachment? Â As for the axe, you might as use the oversized one. I like the lines scored on its edge, which show this is a weapon that saw USE, e.g., executing traitors, heretics, and other enemies of the Imperium- not kept in a display case in some museum, untouched but for some bored curator's polishing cloths. Dantay VI
It is an Imperial Navy fighter, as my Dad (who is 62) has expressed an interest in learning to play 40K  Therefore I want to have it "neutral" so he can use it (depending on the army he selects).  I jad to grind the axe head down, which is still fairly crude looking, as it had almost no cutting edge being so thick. Was more likely to caus blunt force trauma than chop anything!!  Anyway the Lightning. Decided to try something different.   plane 3 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  plane 2 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  plane 1 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  A bit more Dusty Crophopper than Poe Damaran, but not too bad. Dantay VI
Yeah, the Leviathan was a high point for me....  Still slowly working on the Lightning.. got to do the highlights on one side of the black...  I am trying some new paints and washes, still not 100% on them and went overboard on the staining from the exhaust vents.  takeoff5 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  takeoff6 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  takeoff4 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  takeoff3 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  takeoff2 by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Should I do the engine casing brass or keep it as steel?  takeoff by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Thaks for looking :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296905-15-shades-of-grey-a-new-start-with-primaris/page/30/#findComment-4948382 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Now that I am home, I had a sit-down at my hobby area to take stock.  And I realised that I am losing my direction. I have a lot of hal done models but no clear idea of what I want the to be or how I want to finish them.  thumbnail (1) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  This guy for example... I envisioned him as a caster of runes, maybe conneected to the 13th company, but how do I gt the rune-caster look across? What would make him "pop"?  thumbnail (2) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  And this one... again, a caster of runes?  As I look at my collection, I am struggling to see it as a cohesive whole, certainly among the HQ choices.  This is abut how far along I got with Hvarl... I cut 1 of the legs and widened his stance, an gave the axe an actual edge. Ii also got fed up with the blight launcher and swapped it for a heavy bolter, and used a drum magazine.... Still not sure if I should make it belt fed the same as the SW terminator assault cannons  thumbnail by Danny Taylor, on Flickr thumbnail (6) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr thumbnail (5) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr thumbnail (4) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr thumbnail (3) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr  Thoughts? HvitrValdyr
Thoughts? Here you go.  For your Casters have you thought about some brass runes to add to the armour? We don’t really have any visuals for our 30K Rune Priest equivalents but that might be a way to help them stand out as such. There is also the old psychic hood style to set them apart as users of eldritch powers. Again, not sure how much background there is for that in 30K. For the second one I’d recommend some form of bladeless staff to indicate him as a caster. After all staff=wizard.  As for Hvarl, I think the heavy bolter stick out too far behind his arm. It may look better if it were more centered. I love the axe edge but hate the haft. It looks too small and wimpy for such a big blade. Also not a fan of the curve. Bjorn Firewalker
As for Hvarl, I think the heavy bolter stick out too far behind his arm. It may look better if it were more centered. I disagree. As the heavy bolter is mounted on a power fist, the muzzle should not extend beyond the knuckles, or the heavy bolter will be too heavily damaged to use the moment the Marine punches something. (At the very least, the muzzle will get plugged up with gore, or the barrel will get bent out-of-shape.)
