HvitrValdyr
As for Hvarl, I think the heavy bolter stick out too far behind his arm. It may look better if it were more centered.I disagree. As the heavy bolter is mounted on a power fist, the muzzle should not extend beyond the knuckles, or the heavy bolter will be too heavily damaged to use the moment the Marine punches something. (At the very least, the muzzle will get plugged up with gore, or the barrel will get bent out-of-shape.) But seeing as how Hvarl Red Blade doesn’t actually have a powerfist as part of his wargear this isn’t a powerfist but a means of holding the heavy bolter. Dantay VI
Thank you both. Yes Hvarl does not have a power fist, however I felt that to manouvre with such a weapon and wield a giant axe Hvarl would need a beefed up armature to carry it around. I always envisioned Hearth Splitter a large axe and too unwieldy to be used effectvely in 1 hand, so my rasonng for pushing the heavy bolter back, is that it would allow Hvarl to use the axe in a 2 handed grip. What sort of haft would look cool for the axe? Getting hold of brass etch runes in the UK is a bit pricy and also can take a long time to deliver, as the only source that I know of is secret weapons. The hood I can maybe make from some Astartes shoulder pads. Maybe adapt a Wulfen axe haft in some way? Not sure though. I’m excited to see what you come up with. MaveriK
I kept my Hvarl simple and his axe small but elegant (I will upload in a bit on my trend). It sucks when an artist in any medium has that writers block... give it time to recharge! Inspiration and motivation will come to you. Just remember to keep your models balanced. There’s currently none with how the axe is looking, using a tiny handle will only cause it to break if applied against actual armour. So imagination also applies. Balance it out. Think symmetry and have a purpose for each model. What do you want and how can I execute that vision into reality. Dantay VI
Maverik, I agree about the axe. Was just an experiment as someone had suggested a curved handle. I will try something beefier, like a wulfen handle As for symmetry and balance, I think I know where you are coming from, and have an idea to simplify things and maybe sort that out. I have been pretty obsessed with making the HB in a position to allow the axe to be used double handed, that I missed a very simple solution I will mock something up and see how it looks then post up. I have also considered switching the whole body over to Tyberos' but that would be a radical make over.... Will see. Dantay VI
Did a bit of changing around, tried mounting the heavy bolster on the side of the fist ala grey knights, but I did nt have the bits to make it work. Did way with the power fist and shortened the arm slightly.... Have given up on imagining Hvarl using the axe in 2 hands (for now). Bjorn Firewalker
The new models look promising, but anachronistic. Is that a Tyranid skull on a Space Wolf in Great Crusade-era armor? Dantay VI
It is a Tyranid skull, but hoping to pass it off as a a beast from the Rangdan xenocides or possibly something else dark and sinister that the Wolves have had to hunt down. Dantay VI
Bjorn, yes I did wonder... although it reaches the shoulders perfectly. My initial thoughts were to use it as a psychic hood with a wolf pelt draped over it. I am currently converting Sevrin Loth to be a Caster of Runes, so thought hoods would look good across the range to differentiate between wolf and rune priests thumbnail (21) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr thumbnail (20) by Danny Taylor, on Flickr So this dud was eant to be part of my rune priest group, but I could drop the hood and make him a wolf priest.
