Still plugging away at my ETL vow over the last few days.  Jump priest is nearly finished, with just details on his narthecium and jump pack left.  I'm very pleased with how his shading and highlights came out.  Termie librarian is pretty well along.  Vanguard and Sternguard are coming along nicely, but there are soooooo many gubbins to paint on those guys.  Both Dreads are coming along well and I'm more or less down to the details on them.  Haven't much touched the Fire Raptor in a while.  Astorath lies primed, but untouched, save his base.  Jump Librarian is still lonely, since I haven't done a touch of greenstuffing to him before priming. :sad.:

How soon after painting did it start flaking? How thick were you glopping it on? And have you tried a layer of Lahmian Medium? It can act like a semi matte varnish.

I painted it on quite thick. After it seemed like it had dried (maybe an hour or so), I merely prodded it slightly and it started to fall away from the base :sad.: I have some Lahmian Medium. I'll give it a go tomorrow

If by primed you mean undercoated, then it's fair game. Why not put up a picture here or pm Semper about them?

@ Snorri, Aphael looks great! I might steal that kitbash / pose

I think the sword looks good in principle, I just think you need to bring the gold colour further down towards the hilt and darken it further at the tip. Basically needs more contrast.

As for the heraldry I'm not sure... Maybe consult old BA codices / artwork..?

Finally, re the ETL, primed models are definitely acceptable. Base coated possibly, with Captain's leave.

Thanks matey! You know what A. Lincoln said about the internet...you can't ever trust the sources. So go ahead and steal away :laugh.:

Mh, I was thinking about that, yeah, but I'm not sure if I want it to look like an ordinary golden sword(how that is ordinary is actually beyond me). I glazed some Dark Flesh over the tip, but it turned out too drastic a contrast in the end. Might see what I can do there.

Yeah, that's what I was going to do. So much painful work though. :biggrin.:

Ah well, the Captain would've made a good chunk of points. And the tacticals are out as well, I reckon. We'll see. The rhino is definitively ready to go.

Snorri

Fair game :smile.:

In other news, Semper, is this model too far gone to compete?

It's fine. :smile.:

Cheers mate, you got me this time. Vow pledged! ;)

I'll get to it as soon as I can! Karlaen might wait in line as well - not exactly pleased with the way the colour of his armour turned out.

Finally made my first vow for the ETL this year of 1x Captain Karlaen with head swap. Needed to get in a vow prior to admissions closing. Also, have close to done 12 Tactical Marines but the vow is taking precedence.

Also, found a ton of good building terrain on the ultra cheap in a DUST Tactics clearance sale online, so now I have a bunch of terrain to do, which is fun since it goes quick. But ETL vow first!

Glad to have you on board!

Would love to see what you do with that terrain too, been trying to plan out some 2X2 boards to make a floor top wargamming surface myself.

This week was the start of the second phase of a new campaign I'm involved with four other players.

The story takes place in the Govannon system. It's main planet is secretly a prison for a Bloodthirster and the seals were weakening. This caused tectonic activity and natural disasters. The governor of the planet (Player Sean) sends out a distress call but gets no aid until the Eldar (Player Nate) arrive and re-seal the prison. They are lauded as saviors and the Eldar prepare to leave when a horde of Khorne Daemonkin (Player Jordan) arrive and try to break open the prison. The Imperial Guard rally alongside the Eldar to fight off the Khornates, when two new forces arrive in system. A Hive splinter fleet (Player Taylor) are on a nom-nom crusade for biomass being chased by the Blood Angels Third Company (Me), led by Captain Magnus.

The first fight was a 4-way free-for-all with secret objectives and chaos all around.

This week was the second fight and was between the Blood Angels and the Khornates. I am pleased to report that Captain Magnus successfully secured the relic and dealt a huge blow to the Ruinous Powers. I'll have more details later (if desired) and some narrative extracts (which I will do regardless).

I present to you Commanding Chaplain Alvoro, my counts as Astorath The Grim.

Ooh, nice work brother, I love the use of the helm slits to form the "teeth" of the painted-on skull, very clever.

Added some progress on the eternal melta-cide squads, you can see it on my WIP Blog

Heres a preview of one I have mostly completed - just missing red final highlights!

Having an evening of painting Codex Grey onto fourteen wings plus shoulder pads...

Spoiled by the boy waking up and my falling asleep next to him whilst helping him drop off to sleep.

Does he not realise I have an ETL vow to finish?!? :p

Based and highlighted the Assault Marine I've been working on after I got the last of the paints and supplies I needed today. Pretty happy with him, rest of the squads will probably look cleaner too, especially the helms!

Full images in my WIP blog, but heres a preview:

Also did some work on my ETL Vow of 5 DC with a Thunder Hammer. Working towards the right gold colour, i looks quite bright at the moment but I think the eventual blue edge highlights will fix that!

Edited by Charlo

Today I managed to get a bit more work done on not-Mephiston and headed over to Bits and Kits to cherry pick the parts I wanted from the Assault Marine and BA upgrade sprues. It's only been marginally cheaper than buying both things outright, but at least this way I don't have a bunch of bits that I don't want to use.
