Ok these are huge news to me and I got questions. A normal company has 6 battleline, 2 close support and 2 heavy support squads right? If it goes up to 20 squads does it become 12-4-4? if its normal squads split into combat squads that means that if I have 20 devastators in a company, there will still be 8 heavy weapons and not 16 if they're split into 5 man squads. And if they're squads pulled from the reserves then I could have a company with 6 battleline, 2 heavy support 12 close support?

And it sure is a contradiction cause the one paragraph says that a company has 100 marines split into 10 10 man squads or 20 5 man squads, but the other paragraph implies that a company can pull 10 10 man squads from a reserve company and go as high as 200 marines.

Im guessing that the first paragraph is refering to an actual company i.e. the 4th company splitting into 20 5 man squads and the second paragraphs is refering to a strike force i.e. Deathstorm strike force consisting of a full battle company and 10 squads pulled from the reserves.

It's not a contradiction. The company can do both. They're not mutually exclusive.

Your company can be 100 marines in 2x 5 man squads, all from the 4th co, or 10x 10 man squads from the 4th co, reinforced with 3x3 man squads from reserve companies or whatever, or indeed, anything in between.

The point is, that reserve companies then apply the contracting company iconography, so either of these options are functionally the same when they're on your models on the table, unless you choose to paint them otherwise.

The Codex is giving you a set of guidelines, how you interpret and enforce them is, as ever, up to you.

And the new codexes don't say a company has 6 battleline squads. It says they have 60 battleline troops. So they can be organized however you want them to be.

I don't like those changes at all. Like yes it gives you more options, but for decades its been 6 tactical squads 2 assault 2 dev. Now even three years in the radical change throws me off. Because all of the specialist units are so diluted and in differing slots.

Like why are aggressors helmets Blue? Fire support, but they -want- to be up close and in your face. That seems to me it would be yellow helmets, reivers unfortunately look awful with yellow in my opinion but make sense being an assault unit, however if you take the bolt weapons, should be red or blue as they are fire support.

Then we have the overall change to veterans and command. In previous editions commanders have had Red helmets, now they can have gold too.

Now back when I first started playing fire support and heavy support were two different things, and I painted my very first terminators with blue helmets, because I thought being heavy infantry it made sense.

I'll post a picture of one as I still have that unit.

Appiah doesn't tend to like primaris stuff - which is fine. I agree they look no more like stormcast than any other marine. There is a small resemblence because stormcast look like marines (hence the "sigmarine" monacker... but these just look like veteran marines to me, no more or less blingy than other veteran models we have seen.

"Close support" don't mean close combat squad. You can also find the Land speeder and the inceptors in this category. For me, the Close Support Squads are "fast" OR they are designed for close combat.

Reivers with Bolt carbine and with Grapnel Launchers or Grav-chutes are "fast", so they fit in the Close support category.

But I agree, aggressors are a strange unit. Lot of fire power but small range. Not fast but equipped for close combat. I'll put the dakka ones in Fire support and the flamer ones in close support.

And there is another thing. "Battle line = troops", "Close support = Fast Attack", "Fire support = heavy support" are not true anymore. That's weird for some units (incursors).

I'm in a painting lull for a moment. I went pretty hardcore with Mephiston for the LPC, but now I'm finding it hard to pick up a brush. I made myself get some wash on some models to at least try to break myself back into it. I tend to have an all-or-nothing personality with intense focus on something and then ignoring it for a bit, so it fits that patten. However, one of the silver linings of the Great Quarantine of 2020 was that I pretty consistently chipped away at painting a bit every day. Maybe I got too used to that.

Does anyone have trouble getting the wheels spun up again after completing models?

Yeah, I know the feeling. I painted a Repulsor in under a week at the start of the challenge and have since struggled to paint for more than about 15 minutes at a time.

Burnout is real!

I've suffered from that.

Most recent may well have been in last month trying to find something suitable for June's 12M Challenge entry as all I wanted was something simple and straightforward (I only seem to have stuff to complete now which requires magnetising/greenstuff/etc) - not entirely sure how the answer was the Space Hulk Terminators and Librarian given all their detail :teehee:

Before then it was probably after our defeat in last year's ETL. I think I got over that one by painting something else for a few months as I was doing last year's 12M Challenge too. I think it helps doing something else and having a goal/deadline still.

Unfortunately the BA-centric events have been on hold of late but there's bound to be some other goal/deadline/achievement you can reach/unlock. Perhaps there's something you have a hankering for? With no ETL this summer it's actually a good opportunity to paint something non-BA or even try something different - I wouldn't have painted a marble base for the Space Hulk Librarian if the ETL was on, for example.

If I can't or don't think I will play, it's near impossible for me to paint. Painting challenges help with that, but it's still the primary motivator.

I absolutely know that feeling. I think quarantine has been a counterintuitive form of that for me: knowing I won't be able to play for a while actually gave me a shot to the arm to whittle down my insane backlog. Has worked pretty well, overall. It's kind of the prison workout syndrome: if you have nothing else to do, might as well do some pushups and crunches. I think painting also gave me my "fix" for 40k knowing that actually playing was impossible.

I do feel a second wave coming on, so I need to find that spark and pour prometheum all over it.

Painted up an Angel Sanguine last night for a laugh. Quick job and needs some touching up, but I'm pretty pleased with him. This is also my first time trying out contrasts as recess shades. Flesh Tearers red didnt contrast enough, Skeleton horde was too 'thin', and snakebite leather was too dark - Gore Grunta Fur was actually perfect, though, not too strong, with enough red to tie it into the armour. I'll probably be swapping this in for my usual Agrax+medium shade from now on.

Edited by Xenith

Not everyone will probably like this but I ordered a bunch of bare Sisters heads to swap on my Primaris to make a female BA successor chapter. Most of my models are primed but I'll just whip out the ol' guillotine and save those heads as trophies for my Black Legion.

Thanks Xenith, glad you like

These two so far, but they need a few little chalice/blood drop details yet. Not overly bling as it’s not the Flesh Eater way!

Awesome looking bayonet, that's a good idea to count as a CCW.
