going to watch this one with interest having just ordered one...

Do people think it or the hammer strike are the best of the new speeders?

I want to like both but I think normal land speeder with AC and MM is better and still they don't see much of a play.

If I need to choose one thou I would run Hammerstrike (if they drop 10/20 points I think they would be awesome) triple melta and 8th edition thunder hammer rockets seems like a good combo for harassment unit.

Hailstrike is a bit underwhelming if they would made it 16 S5 -1 + 2D6 S4 0 shoots it would be a tought fight between this version and hammerstrike but now i think hammer is better.

I am actually liking the Thunderstrike for its BS2+. Helps it to make the most of its small number of powerful shots. Helps take the sting out of the degrading profile slightly as well.

Anyone here doing a Crusade?

I've come to the realization that my # of games in 2021 will be limited enough that I might as well just have fun with it in my own way.

Curious how other folks' experiences have gone.

I love crusade - but I like small games so the 25 and 50pl games are just my speed!

You can do "normal" 2000pt games in Crusade, right?

In my local environment it would probably be a one-sided affair while I'm doing the Crusade stuff on my half while the other side is just playing.

Just played in a tourney yesterday. Took 6th out of 12 but only lost to first and second place (and honestly should’ve won both. Deployed like a boob for the game against knights and ultrasmurf player was soooo slow, so we only got thru 3 turns. But he only had a victrix guard, 3 intercessors and a apothecary left - so I would’ve steamrolled the last 2 turns).

That said - sang guard are fantastic but you need to deploy them wisely. Death company can be a good fire and forget tool but I’m torn on them still. Bladeguard are absolutely brutal. I also ran a Levi with dual grav and he was an excellent backfield tool. All in all - I think we benefit from a combined arms approach and not “all sang guard all the time”

So I’m looking at the rules for the Librarian Dreadnaught. How are you guys reading the force halberd rule?

It says make 1 additional attack but no more than one attack can be made. So does that mean you get five attacks, but of those five only one can be from the halberd?

You get 4 base, one for shock assault, and then one additional for the halberd. Can confirm he is a beast in CC with quickening and assault doctrine.

Have you guys tried using incursor heads for scout heads?

Also thanks for the answers above!

I don't have a prepped Phobos helmet on hand, but made pictures with the regular Intercessor one. They are the of the same height and width:

Bare head has exactly the same height but is slimmer. I assumed you would be trimming the neck bit a little.

TO's generally write their own rules regarding legal models. Here are some helpful questions to consider:

Do the models represent a legal loadout for the squad? If the weapons options are clear, that is a good start.

Is there any risk of confusion? Are you using Indomitus Terminators as non-Relic Terminators elsewhere in your army? If you only have one squad of Terminators and you tell your opponent at the start of the battle they are relic Terminators then it is pretty clear. However if you have one squad of normal Terminators and a second squad of similar models representing Relic Terminators then it is a bit harder for opponents to remember.

Generally, most people are cool with conversions, particularly if the conversions are cool.

Anyone else feel that we've been codex creeped already?

Between DG getting out chapter tactic (+1 to wound in combat equivalent) and a whole lot more, DA iner circle ignoring our chapter tactic and obsec on specialist troops, and from the LA Nopen BA getting beaten and apparently sisters being better in combat than BA, it's a bit of a downer.

What will the BA excel at? At the moment we can move about a bit faster, but not as fast as eldar. I'm struggling with this.

just the way things are. with the exception of 5th ed, we've typically not really been top tier. In 8th we provided a beatstick character to non BA armies but eventually other armies did it better.

We don't suck, we just are back to being solidly average marines.

I don't play competitively, but I think BA are good. To me, the big thing is whether or not the ruleset allows you to do the fundamentals of the army, and I think it does, so I'm rather happy with them.

I think the big thing right now is the shakeup from the DA supplement. I know the general thought was that merging into Codex: Space Marines would cause them to water down how the chapters operate, but we can clearly see in this case that they used the design space cleared to go the complete opposite direction.

Yeah it's just that it feels like Wolves and BA both got pretty substantial nerfs in many places for good or ill. The buffs given to either were limited or non existent outside of the mere fact they're part of codex marines. Whereas for comparison, DA seem to have had substantial buffs across the board. The extra flavour gained for the BA is crusade only, the death visons rule SHOULD have been available to all death company units, not just to the characters.

I think there is a bit of bitterness because the last two books (DA and DG) both have ways to flat out switch off the BA chapter tactic, which then makes us even more like "just red marines" only its worse than that because other colour marines typically dont have their chapter tactics so outright negated (interestingly enough the other one that does is White Scars vs death guard).

Just a weird place right now.

Even with nerfs, we don't suck, it's hard to suck when working on the marine chassis, but marines clearly aren't top dogs or particularly close to it anymore, and BA are a definite sidegrade to marines whilst DA  are a clear upgrade.
