SpecialIssue
I was struck when reading the Talon of Horus by a passage mentioning in passing tech-priests aboard a Chaos ship still showing reverence to the Omnissiah. Does the Dark Mechanicum still carry the same superstitions as their Adeptus counterparts? If so, who or what is the Omnissiah to them? The Warp in general? How do their beliefs impact their ideas on technological innovation and scientific thought? i.e. does everything new they produce have to be inspired/fused with the warp? Do they still follow their own dogmatic rituals required for a machine to be acceptable for use? Do they still view xenos war-engines as being blasphemous and thus unuseable? Or, lacking the presence of a central authority and codified dogma such as found on Mars, is there really no such thing as the 'Dark Admech' in the wake of the Scouring? Instead, merely a scattering of independent mercenary forges with completely fractured/divergent cults selling out their services to the highest bidder in the Eye - a further devolved version of the already highly feudal and decentralised Adeptus Mechanicus. Bronze Templar
The Truth is anything from chaos worship to adopting a Dark Age of Technology mind-set of that most evil of tech heresies 'Progress'. Many Tech priests that hang around with chaos in its many forms my start dabbling in warp related technologies and perhaps turn to worshipping chaos or as you have mentioned still worship the Omnissiah but to acquire protection, supplies, etc may sell their services and wears to suitable candidates. Lastly there is the 'progress group' this group tend to be based outside Imperial territory or extremely well hidden and by no longer adhering to Ad-Mech doctrine being improving on technologies or investigating xenos technology. Its this group that are more dangerous as some of there members actively progress technology and a few seek to rebuild the men of iron. In short the Dark Mechanicum is far from a unified group but would say the majority are based in the Eye of Terror after the Horus Heresy. Nehekhare
The superstitious/dogmatic Admech you picture is pretty much a product of the loss of knowledge that occurs with the civil war on mars. The omnissiah is a philosophical principle (singular ideal of comprehension) more than a personal god, beliefs may differ about whether the emperor embodies it or not. TrashMan
Given that the fabricator general of Mars and his followers were infected by scrap-code...I'd say a large portion of the Dark Mechanicus is corrupted and not thinking straight at all. miteyheroes
Given that the fabricator general of Mars and his followers were infected by scrap-code...I'd say a large portion of the Dark Mechanicus is corrupted and not thinking straight at all. I think you mean liberated by scrap-code, which tore down the false walls and ridiculous binary options peddled by the backwards-looking hidebound moralists of Mars. Instead the 'Dark' Mechanicus are free to pursue knowledge and perfect their understanding, without any boundaries. They are the most devoted of all followers of the Omnissiah, loyal to the founding principles of the cult, free from the constraints imposed by the great imposter-Emperor. Their studies can investigate the nature of the daemon, the xenos, and the perfection of true artificial intelligence, machines unfettered by links to petty mortality.. The_son_of_Dorn
Long ago in a distant past, Bill Gates, the shape shifting master of darkness unleashed an unspeakable evil in the form of Windows XP which would evolve into windows 8, but a foolish samurai God Emperor weilding a Linux sword would oppose him locking him in the dark sands of Mars, before the final blow was struck Bill gates tore open a portal in time and flung the Emperor into the future where he is a cripple on a golden throne. i immagine thats the jist of it.
