Dark Disciple
Yikes, its been a month already and I've still not finished those raptors! I blame this box here: http://i.imgur.com/7I8fcXY.jpg Ever since this box came out I've wanted to make obliterators out of them but now that I have them I'm really struggling. Here is the prototype obliterator who's a mix of spawn, Helbrute and Stormfiend parts. http://i.imgur.com/YCUsbF9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TpJW7SZ.jpg?1 On the whole I'm reasonably happy with him so far but I'm not too sure about the Helbrute multi-melta, does it seem too big? What do you guys think? For the next one should I try to add more spawn or 40k parts? Thanks for looking. Slaanbull
That's insane, nice job. More 40k parts, if any. The multi-melta is a great fit in my opinion, just try to integrate it a bit. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297995-dark-disciples-crimson-slaughter-obliterator-prototype/page/2/#findComment-3959382 Share on other sites
Lucio
Yeah, agree that the multi-melta is a good choice, needs some greenstuff at the join to help hide things better, try to take the arm muscle shapes and mould them into the flesh on the multi-melta. Also consider a pipe from the flat section on the front of the multi-melta to the flat section near the elbow. hushrong
I read the thread about using those stormfiends as obliterators and didn't think much of it. Now that I see yours I am convinced. I honestly think those Dark Eldar Talos/Kronos helms would look ace on them too. That fella will be a great addition to your Crimson Slaughter. Dark Disciple
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm really glad that he's won you over Hushrong and I completely agree about the Dark Eldar helmets. Here's a small update on the 1st Obliterator, I've taken Lucio's advise and added one of the pipes from the Helbrute kit to tie them in visually. I'm not very confident with Green Stuff as I haven't used it in over 5 years so tried to extend the Multi-Melta and used a shoulder pad to fill most of the gap. Hope you guys approve. http://i.imgur.com/vBwNYL7.jpg?2 http://i.imgur.com/8mAcgL5.jpg Also may I present Obliterator No 2. http://i.imgur.com/dpDWn2W.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/sh2o0tj.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/mQm1M3k.jpg?1 He's a bit more rat, bit more 40k than the 1st but I quite like him. The only thing I can't decide is what I should do with the right hand weapon. Do you guys think one of the guns from the kit, another gargoyle head or heavy bolter would look best? I'm planning on taking them into my local store after work tomorrow for some help with the Green Stuff work. Thanks again for looking and for your advice Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297995-dark-disciples-crimson-slaughter-obliterator-prototype/page/2/#findComment-3961530 Share on other sites
Lord Asvaldir
Wow those look sweet, can't wait to see the final product. As far as greenstuff goes, it really just takes a little practice. I still don't consider myself that good with it, but really works wonders when you're trying to fill in a gap, I'd highly recommend it. Iron-Daemon Forge
The Obliterator conversion are looking really cool. As said there, the helbrute multi melta fit in really well with the model & adding extra pipes help tie in the model. Looking forward to seen the unit painted. Lucio
The trick to basic greenstuff is to fill gaps, and use the plastic it's wrapped int to get a smooth finish. As you practice more, you can start moulding basic shapes using a modelling knife or screwdriver (wetting your tool helps stop it sticking) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297995-dark-disciples-crimson-slaughter-obliterator-prototype/page/2/#findComment-3962050 Share on other sites
Chaeron
It's a brilliant effort- love what you've done with him. Definitely something I would consider doing having seen this and other people's attempts. I want to see them all done and painted now! StormBringer328
How goes the Crimson Slaughter journey? Just found your thread and I'm finding a little inspiration within :) Any updates and/or experiences with the army yet? Dark Disciple
Thanks guys, I'm afraid I've not been able to do any work on them. Real life's been keeping me away from anything hobby related. I've managed to snatch a quick five mins here and there to get a little painting done but just can't get time to finish building the 3rd Obliterator or finish the GS on the two I have. I'm gonna try and get a Helbrute painted up next month for Daemonforge but these guys might take a while. I haven't tried the army out yet but a friend is moving 5mins away next month with his Dark Angels army so should be able to start getting some games in. He has 2x the Dark Vengeance Angels army which he reckons is around 1,500 points. The list I'm working on is: HQ - Chaos Lord - Krannon - Chaos Sorcerer - Sigil and Psyker lvl 2 with Biomancy / Daemonology Troops - 5 Possessed - 5 Chaos Marines with mark of Nurgle and Power Mace for the Asp. Champion - 20 Cultists with Autoguns, a stubber and mark of Khorne - 20 Cultists with pistols and combat weapons Fast Attack - Chaos Spawn with mark of Nurgle - 5 Raptors with a meltagun and lightning claw, plasma pistol for the Asp. Champion Hvy Support - Forgefiend with 3 Ectoplasma Cannons - 1 Obliterator Helbrute Mayhem Pack 2 standard brutes and one with a scourge and plasma cannon Does this feel ok? It's mostly built around the models I like / have but any advice would great.
