IL VII - The Berserkers of Uran (thread 1)

Raktra

Maybe Preferred Enemy Jump Infantry would be better?

I don't know with what to replace with IWND part of his Weapon. Maybe force a Reroll of successful Saves made against him in close combat?

What about forcing re-rolling successful IWND taken against him. All saves in close combat is rough when he reduces your invul save.

This makes a good chunk of sense, actually, I forgot myself that he was chipping at Invulnerables.

Question: why is it by 2? And can he null an invul since if he did reduce an invul save by 2, would a 5++ become nothing?

One of the legion's unique pieces of wargear reduces invul saves by one, the Primarch essentially has a better version of that weapon.

Right then, let's have a round two look at this big lad.

The Primarch Raktra Akarro

The White Devil, Berserkerkin, Skyhunter

WS:8 BS:5 S:7 T:6 W:6 I:6 A:6 LD:10 Sv:2+

Cost - (SEVERAL HUNDRED POINTS OF STAB)

Unit Composition

  • 1 (unique)

Unit Type

  • Infantry, character
Wargear
  • The Behemoth Cuirass
  • The Grinder
  • Heartworm
  • Frag grenades
  • Impact Thrusters
Special Rules
  • Primarch
  • Heaven's Judgement
  • Sire of the Berserkers of Uran
  • Skyhunter
  • Bulky

The Behemoth Cuirass - 2+/4++

Heartworm - Archeotech pistol, may fire twice in the shooting phase

The Grinder - RNG:- S:+1 AP:2 Melee, Specialist Weapon, Grind, Sunder

Grind - Successful invulnerable saves taken against this weapon must be re-rolled.

Sire of the Berserkers - Raktra ignores enemy FNP rolls in close combat, and forces enemy models to re-roll successful It Will Not Die rolls resulting from wounds from his close combat attacks (keep track of how many of the lost wounds have been caused by Raktra). A BoU force with Raktra as its Warlord gains +1 to combat resolution whilst he is engaged in an assault.

Skyhunter - When models in a BoU force containing Raktra perform a shooting attack against a zooming flyer or swooping flying monstrous creature, their snapshots are resolved at BS2 rather than the usual BS1. Note this does not override any restrictions on which weapons can be fired usually placed by the snapshot rules. In addition, models with the LA:BoU rule (as well as Dreadnoughts) gain the Preferred Enemy: jump infantry special rule.

Heaven's Judgement - Despite being Fearless, Raktra still has to take Fear tests to see if his WS is reduced vs Sanguinius.

There we go, give him a good slating!

The more I think about it, the more uneasy I am about the Grind special rule. This Primarch will be hitting at S - 8 in all close combats, ignores FNP, and forces a reroll of IWND. That means he needs only 2s or 3s to wound his brothers, and they are only going to get a 6++ save against him. At WS - 8, he's hitting half of them on 3s. I'm....not sure if all of this is a good idea. I'd definitely test him out against a few of his brothers to see how it translates, but I suspect (minus Horus' wounding strikes), he's going to massacre them.

The other point of contention is fairly minor. Heaven's Judgement is a nice fluffy rule, but it might be the only Primarch special rule that is character-base, is it character-base? Or can anyone fear him?

The rest looks good at first glance.

I could knock Grind to re-rolling invulnerables. Would make him like a beefier Sigismund then? Or give him shred?

Heaven's Judgement is specific to Sanguinius only, I like stuff that's story-driven and I thought it'd be a nice nod.

Looking good though he comes off as a very slow cumbersome fellow due to his stat line, naming choices and the fact for someone who is the sky hunter, he brings very little to bear against Arial forces except a slightly improved snap fire.

Perhaps Some sort of run preventing hit and run or counter attack against jump infantry?

I'd potentially go with the same Pricing as Simison's Alex : 480.

If you could do a points breakdown like he did or start doing some 1v1 tests vs other Primarchs then we could adjust it.

As an aside, I think he should also have Preferred Enemy (and give it too): Flying Monstrous Creature. It makes sense to me and fluff wise and he's not likely to encounter one since tryanids aren't around and Daemons haven't spilled out into reality yet. Tabletop wise, it'd only affect those two (flying 'nids and Daemon Princes with Wings) and maybe even Sanguinius against whom he still has to take a psuedo Fear test anyways.
