Sans Mercy
So I just picked up a sizable CSM force on ebay pretty cheap, and I'm stoked and high fiving everywhere, but it includes a Chaos'ed up Land Raider Crusader. Is it legal? Is there such a thing?Yes I tried google and didn't find much, thought I'd ask the pros over here at the Traitor Page. Montuhotep
Technically and strictly, no. The only Land Raider available to Chaos Marines, per the Codex, is the lascannon/heavy bolter configuration. If you choose Imperial Armour 13 then you can get access to the delicious Spartan as well, but nothing more recent than that. No Crusader or Redeemer for us. Though I can still envisage a Warpsmith looking at a Land Raider, looking at a pile of bolters, looking back at the Land Raider and thinking: "Hang on a minute...." Lucien Eilam
There's no such thing as a Chaos Land Raider Crusader. You could still take a Loyalist one with a Chaos army, either as part of a Loyalist Space Marine Detachment or in an Unbound army. Note that as a Come the Apocalypse ally, Chaos troops can't embark on it, you have to deploy 12" away from any Chaos units, and you won't want to even get within 6" of it. But it is legal. Strazhakov
Strange that the Dark Mechanicus is even more conservative than their "light" counterpart... I get why we don't get all the cool loyalist tools but now that we have some semi-unique weapons please give us the option to mount some Ecto-Plasma and Hades Autocannon sponsors on our Raiders, pls Mr. Dark Magos? Oh, it has nothing to do with conservative. It has everything to do with not making any change that doesn't involve strapping either a demon or some demonic weapon into a known loyalist thing. Lucio
Give me a Land Raider with sponsoon mounted Hades Autocannons and a 15 transport capacity and I'm sold! Even if I do have to take Demonic Possession and risk having some squad members eaten en-route! Sans Mercy
Ha! Thanks for the replies. I'm certain my closest pals won't mind if I run it, or I could file the spikey bits off an try to Imperium it up for my BA force.Maybe it'll be legal soon. incinerator950
I think it's the underlying problem of making patterns for force differentiation. This goes beyond spikes and tentacles, but largely trying to keep the Evil or Bizzaro theme Chaos has going with new demon engines as opposed to trying to come up with a new (or newold in the case of GW's craptastic writing) marks for grandfathered rules. So no, unless you take a CtA ally and you still can't use it. Which is a bloody shame with the reality of capturing and reverse engineering enemy vehicles, finding our own ancient stc's, and otherwise refitting hulks or changing or upgrading the armaments call for it. FlamingDeth
Replace the vehicle options with the chaos options and I'd let you run it, but then I run fast and loose with the rules... UlsanGamer
Though I can still envisage a Warpsmith looking at a Land Raider, looking at a pile of bolters, looking back at the Land Raider and thinking: "Hang on a minute...." The Next day..... There was one decommissioned landraider and dozens of little bolters on tracks. Abaddon didn't let a warpsmith anywhere near a landraider again. awilden
Silly question, but since theres only 1 configuration for the chaos land raider, why do people magnetize it at all? (ive seen guides where the main weapons, extras and sponsons were all magnetized) i get that for the bits on vehicles you need to remove to transport and all, but excluding the bits to remove for transport, and the 'extras' for chaos vehicles (combi-bolter/combi weapons/dozer/havoc etc etc), wouldnt it be best to just leave the other weapons non-magnetized? (i only ask because i was considering getting a chaos land raider, and wanted to know the work involved since i prefer to try fully magnetize all options is possible) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299091-chaos-crusader-land-raider/#findComment-3859338 Share on other sites

Paradigm
I've always thought I'd see a csm land raider with reaper ac sponsons and a 16 troop cap but it hasn't materialized. I think this is the #1 thing on my wish list, as far as regular csm codex business goes. It would be cool if it could be upgraded to butcher cannons or ectoplasma or baleflamer. And don't forget the frag launchers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299091-chaos-crusader-land-raider/#findComment-3863586 Share on other sites
