Kathias
Hello everyone! This has been a long time coming, joining many of you in the experience that is the Horus Heresy. After initially choosing to join the Raven Guard, then the Night Lords, I finally settled with aligning with the Emperor's Children (I love purple that much). Going to be ordering a good chunk of the 2500 list I concocted with the help of my good friend DietOfLiquor. Over 50 infantry to build and paint! Will have two Contemptors, six jetbikes, and possibly a Knight Lancer, to also purchase and put together in the future. Some of you may be wondering as to how I'm going about creating my Loyalist company of a traitor Legion, and boy do I have quite a story to outline! As these are just the key points of the story behind the 110th's motivation to stay loyal to the Emperor. Fair warning this is a very rough outline of the story I'll develop for them over the coming months as I construct them! Sent on separate expeditionary fleet, 1 battle barge (The Emperor’s Riposte), 2 frigates Fleet commanded by Captain Pelias Straka Exploration cut short by Primarch Fulgrim’s rally call to the Istvaan sector Warp travel complications cause the fleet to arrive just after the events of Istvaan V After scrubbing communications, Pelias and his Company discover the treachery of their father Cleverly posing as fellow heretics, Pelias and a group of his most trusted brothers conduct a rescue op of their loyalist brothers on Istvaan III, where they find Rhylanor (whom they repair back aboard The Emperor’s Riposte. The 110th also infiltrate Istvaan V, discovering the other loyalists have already escaped. They recover Ferrus Manus’ body. Pelias takes up his father’s former sword, The Fireblade, in hopes of one day restoring honor to his legion’s name. 110th Company fleet makes a warp jump out of the sector, narrowly dodging the traitors who are now privy to their true nature. Traitor forces are dispatched to track them down and kill them. 110th link up with loyalist Ultramarines. After confirming the atrocities of Istvaan V, and explaining their actions taken to rescue what survivor’s they could, Ultramarines allow them to fight against the traitors. They pass Primarch Ferrus Manus’ body over to them for return to the Iron Hands. The 110th set off on a holy campaign to redeem the name of their Legion, righting the wrongs of their father, and aiding fellow loyalists whenever possible.Hope to have pics up of all the models in the coming weeks. blackoption
A couple of thoughts. How do they recover Fireblade? A primarch's personal weapon (even on as mercurial as Fulgrim) is likely to not just leave it out unsecured. Assuming the Fireblade is still on the 'Pride of the Emperor' how will the loyalists get the blade and leave the flagship of the legion undetected? How do they recover two key figures from two different worlds? Rylanor is on Istavann III and the corpse of Ferrus Manus is on Istavann V in the middle of a battle field being scavanged and picked apart by the victorious traitors. Both Rylanor and Ferrus are high profile trophies that the traitors will seek. Also, both are likely to be plot elements in future HH books. So while it is not impossible for your company to recover them, if BL authors decide to use either those plot elements, they could derail the fluff for your company. I assume you want to have them secure Rylanor is so that you can field him as part of your loyalists post Istavan III. I'd recommend staying away from high profile plot elements, but that doesn't mean your story has to change signifcantly. Perhaps they attempted to recover Ferrus, but failed in the attempt. Perhaps the sword Pelias has was a gift to him from the Primarch or Lord Commander Vespian (or perhaps they recovery Lord Commander Vespian's sword). As for Rylanor... I'd recommend their be hints that a Contemptor Dreadnaught was seen with his markings, or some subtle hints that they are in possession of his chassis. Whether or not it is Rylanor or just a lookalike leave to speculation. At least those are my thoughts. But still, I look forward to the models and painting. KBA
I'd steer clear of dabbling with primarch corpses, killed off main characters, and hefty artifacts personally. 3rd Legion Loyalists is a dynamic, interesting idea on its own that it doesn't need plot crutches :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299217-loyalist-emperors-children-110th-company/#findComment-3863132 Share on other sites
Theredknight
I wouldn't say rylanor was killed off, he was last seen wandering below the coral city in the catecombs possibly defending something. depending how deep he went, will depend on if he survives or not, he's an ancient in contemptor chassis, and will likely live longer than any astartes. Who knows what the future may hold..they picked loken up didn't they? And I genuinely thought it was over for him as he was on the surface, and saw the bombardment. Plus having a talon through your chest and surviving without an apothecary would be unlikely, but still..there he was :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299217-loyalist-emperors-children-110th-company/#findComment-3863137 Share on other sites
Captain Tezdal
Doesn't fulgrim have fire blade in angel exterminatus? As in he stabbed Perturabo with it in the stomach? Kathias
Well clearly the BL authors need to contact me before they go and write books about my army pieces haha! for Rylanor I'll just do something like redknight suggested and just be vague about the Contemptor they recover. As for the blade I'll just rethink that one haha. Maybe something along the lines of it being a relic Paragon Blade Pelias found during their expedition before being re-called by Fulgrim. I think I'll still mention something about them attempting to land on Istvaan V, but they had to turn back as the traitor forces became aware that they weren't part of the traitor Emperor's Children. Fluff aside for now! ***BREAKING NEWS*** Just ordered my Praetor and Champion today! Sadly I couldn't order as much as I wanted to, as I'm awaiting payment for my old Tau army. Soon I will at least be able to start posing pictures of Pelias and his second, Hesiod! Kathias
Ok so no WIP, but I do have some fluff to give you an idea of where I'm going with this. Aboard The Emperor’s Riposte, approximately 48 hours after the Istvaan V Drop Site Massacre ‘How long had it been since we’d begun the hasty sojourn through the warp to heed our Father’s call-to-arms?’ Pelias thought to himself. ‘It’s seemed like only mere hours, but time seems of little significance to warp travel. We had only been on that Forge World for a few days before we had to scramble back to our ship. Managed to bring along a few of the gifts we received from the Tech Priests there at least, if we’d only had more time we could’ve been fully outfitted to better serve our Father.’ At that last thought three loud knocks sounded against the door, the familiar ring of a ceremite gauntlet against metal hinting that it must be Hesiod coming to inquire about my gift from the Tech Priests. “Enter dear Hesiod, I know it is you as you’re the only one who’d ignore my order to remove their armor for inspection by the artificers.” At that remark he entered the room, his armor polished cleanly to a pristine shine. As I looked at him now, the purple and gold colors of their Legion shining brightly, the medicae symbol on his shoulder polished especially well it seemed. It was hard to imagine that he’d been covered head to toe in oil by a malfunctioning device on the Forge World. “Are you sure you want to revert back to our colors brother? The black suited your perfectly.” I said with a smirk. “I felt it was time for a change. No need to stand out too much, wouldn’t want anyone to think I was that special.” Hesiod said, brushing his bone-white hair back. “Pleasantries aside, let’s have a look at that new blade of yours. I’ve heard tale it is quite a site.” At his request, I drew the sword from its scabbard. The blade itself was of bright steel, leading down to a golden hilt, with a deep-blue gem on the pommel. I activated the blade, pressing the activation rune located on the hilt. The blade became sheathed in a power field of matching color to the gem, deadly energy emanating across the blade's surface. “That is quite a sword brother! The priests truly outdid themselves with that one.” Hesiod said as he gazed at the marvel of its perfection. “This blade isn’t something of their craft, at least not recently. They told me it was found in a vault all by itself, suspended in a power field, as if awaiting someone to come and find it. The Priests had been trying to disengage the lock on the vault door for months. They’d only just opened it on the day of our arrival.” At this revelation, Hesiod raised an eyebrow “That seems fairly ominous don’t you think? Perhaps it was destined for you Pelias!” He allowed himself a slight chuckle at his own jabbing remark. “You know very well I don’t believe in such superstitions. Things are as they are, coincidence perhaps, nothing more.” “Well regardless Brother Captain you should give the blade a name. All great swords have a name you know.” I pointed to the scabbard “It already has one. Inscribed on there is one word, ‘Mercy’. If that’s the name it was given, that’s the name it shall have. It seems fairly content with it at least.” We both let out a slight laugh, amused by our incessant ramblings. As we both regained our composure, the vox in my room sounded, it was Master of Signal Galen “Captain, I have urgent news. Please come to my station you need to hear these transmissions. Our Father has betrayed the Emperor.” With dumbfounded looks upon our faces, Hesiod and I ran from the room, hoping that Galen had misinterpreted something. If their Father had betrayed the Emperor, dark time were truly on the horizon.
