The NEW "What will 2014 Bring?" thread

Well, it's now official. I'm doing either a Blood Angels or Successor battle company. I've not been this excited or willing to throw money at 40k miniatures in a long while.

Might I recommend...

  • Lamenters: Yellow isn't as hard as it used to be, and nobody does them.
  • Angels Encarmine: Basically Blood Angels with black trim, except they paint their Sanguinary Guard and Death Company freaking white so you can do awesome freaking blood splatter effects on everything!
  • Charnel Guard: Little know chapter, fleet based, rides out the time in-between fights in stasis to fight the Black Rage. Has great tanks (super-heavies, etc.). Gothy black and deep red theme. Awesome ornate cross chapter badge. Totally censored.gifing metal.
  • Knights of Blood: If more people start to play this army, maybe we'll get some attention from GW... biggrin.png

Successors are always fun smile.png

Trouble is, the blood drop-wing emblem is on just about every piece of plastic I can see in these new kits. It'd be sort of like trying to make Templars out of kits covered in fist emblems.

The Angels Vermillion will have hardly any trouble at all. Sanguine and Encarmine on the other hand will require a lot of converting, by replacing drops with skulls or angel wings with bat wings, respectively.

Woo! It seems everyone always forgets the Angels Vermillion, nice to see the bits will work well for my marines.

Oh great..I have an Iyaden Wraithdar army too.

...Its like the Stars are literally Aligning in an attempt to get me to start Blood Angels...

The final Decision will be made when I get the Codex though since...y'know.. student budget and all that.

Just had confirmation from my Fb group that BA Terminator kit goes up for pre order on the 13th. The person in question has proven to be fairly reliable with BA rumours to so I'm fairly confident in this one!

I want to believe. So very badly.

just another quicky, captain Karl also has counter attack... someone missed that earlier on... he's really quite nice for the points

thunder hammer without a storm shield is pretty suboptimal though, for the same reason that Dante and Astorath are currently pretty bad. If you take him in a unit of thundernators then he can sit at the back and the sergeant can take the challenges, which might redeem him a little bit. Otherwise he is a liability to protect, which really isn't great given his cost and expensive loadout.

he's a minor beatstick with a comms relay attached. if you want something different from a fortification, he's not a bad way to get it.

as he has counter attack he'll grant it to his unit, so having him in a big unit of terms is pretty boss. Sure he needs a little protection but for 160 points, he's pretty great.

Just don't use him as a chapter master;P

counter attack doesn't confer to his unit. Have we confirmed that his reserves re-rolls are just for his detachment or for allies as well? If not then he's not the same as a comms relay, as people use that to manipulate cross-codex synergies that require use of deployment via reserves.

I don't think this has been covered yet, if it already has, apologies for the expired info.

But after reading through this topic, I went ahead and visited natfka. Here's what I found (and these are rumors):

I thought you might want to know this.  I do have the WD coming out Saturday and I can confirm to you that Sons of Sanguinius is only a painting guide in the same vein of Companies of Fenris and the ones released for Dark Eldar and Tyranids.  It will still be in paperback like the others and the Sanguinary Guard edition just gets it in hardback instead.  Sadly, it's not a supplement.

Also, after some time with a magnifying glass, the WD preview page for Sanguinary Guard shows:
165 points base
Can upgrade to 10-man for 35pts/model
All have the "Encarmine sword" as stock, but may take an "Encarmine axe" for free
Still have Fearless
Lose Red Thirst in favor of Furious Charge
Death masks are now 1 pt/model as opposed to 5 pts/model
Can still take power fists, plasma pistols, inferno pistols
Chapter banner is now 5 pts cheaper

The new tactical box does feature the heavy flamer and a heavy bolter.  No mention of the missile launcher.  And grav guns ARE in the box, meaning grav weaponry made it to the blood angels.  The hand flamers and inferno pistols will still be in the codex as well since the tactical squad has them in the kit."

Normally counter attack does confer to the model's unit. Is there something specifically written into his rules that says it doesn't?

The most pertinent info for me were the details on the Sanguinary Guard edition. I don't know whether to be disappointed or relieved that it essentially comes with the codex and a bunch of art stuff. On the one hand, I was half-expecting a supplement to come with it that focused on the Sanguinary Guard or the upper elite of the Blood Angels, like Champions of Fenris. So, I'm disappointed that's not the case. On the other hand, my wallet breathed a huge sigh of relief because I will not be buying it.

to be fair I don't have my books with me, but counter attack sure conferred to the unit in 6th, I'm pretty sure it still does in 7th but captain karl just has regular counter attack, no rules saying it doesn't transfer

If it is just regular counter-attack, then yes, it would confer to any unit that he joins.

Having a durable IC that can be attached to any unit and give that unit counter-attack is a very nice thing. Throw in allowing re-rolls to reserve checks and I am liking what this new character adds to the army options.

This box set is really a fantastic deal.

Please read the rules before you make statements with any degree of certainty, especially to correct someone.

"If a unit contains at least one model with this special rule, and that unit is charged, every model with the Counter-attack special rule in the unit gets +1 attack until the end of the phase."

Sorry guys.

Whoa there nellie. We're just having a discussion here. I'll admit I misread the rule, and am glad you pointed it out.

You win the king of the rulebook award for today. Nice job.

Everyone messes up the rules mate!

Except you were asserting your knowledge (after I corrected you the first time) when you were wrong on both counts. Counter attack did not confer in 6th, and it doesn't in 7th. I found it pretty annoying!

In fairness, it did confer in 5th, but it's been quite a while since those rules were in play.

Sim - While its not impossible, your listed Sang Guard cost is higher than their starting cost for 5 - it would be the first time this is the case.

It's more likely they are 33 points each (5x33 = 165), no?
