Veteran Sergeant
Good choice on those helmets. They definitely look the part. Excellent work all around really. The sculpting is fantastic.I like the choice of Umbras. Bolters off the GW Marine sprues look way too chunky in the hands of Dark Eldar models. I'd think the ideal would be to cut the scopes and little side buttons off the Deathwatch bolters, but Umbras make a much easier stand-in. How do they scale up to the rest of the range? My worry about making Deldar Sisters (even if I trusted myself to sculpt passable looking tabards and such) would be having them end up looking out of scale with a bunch of WNBA Sisters. bazazatron
Cheers for the kind words! Bit of an update on the first lady, it's taking a while as I'm trying to remember how to paint but it's getting there. Also a bit rough in places but that's mainly as she was the first sister I modelled/practiced on. Bloody eyes, forgot what a pain in the arse they were! Not the best photo but you get the idea. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/paintery.jpg @Veteran Sergeant They do come up a bit big, I'll dig out some of my old ones and take a comparison shot so you can get an idea. I changed how I constructed them halfway through the squad which brought the height down a tad but they're still sizeable. sheep
Brilliant! These are fantastic mate, sisters are one of the most iconic imperial factions and you're certainly giving them the love they deserve. bazazatron
Done at last. She's a bit rough and ready in places and there's a couple of bits I'll go back to once my hand has gotten used to a brush again, but for the first mini I've painted in over a decade I'm pleased enough with the outcome. Nine more to go... http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/IMG_20150404_135738.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/IMG_20150404_135813.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301476-order-of-the-forgotten-vow-one-mans-descent-into-madness/page/2/#findComment-3997512 Share on other sites
Sgt. Blank
Your modeling is tremendous and so is the painting! I am very impressed with the green stuff work, you've achieved both hard surfaces (armor) and soft ones (tabards) very effectively. The paint is doing the modeling work justice too - your models looked like they walked out of the imagery of the Sisters of Battle in the rulebook. bazazatron
I'm an illustrator by trade and find it hard to leave things when there's something not quite right so I had to sort a couple of things, but now I'm just fussing so she's definitely done for the time being. Saying that there's still a few bits I'm not happy with, it'll come back with practice though. I need to get better at faces and a camera that's not a phone. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/IMG_20150404_163725_1.jpg @Sgt. Blank Cheers very nice of you to say, though I think my eyesight has gotten worse, the detail seems much further away than it used to. KrautScientist
Absolutely beautiful! bazazatron
@KrautScientist- Cheers! Have to admit your kitbashed sister (Sounds like a Twisted Sister cover band) was one of the reasons I picked it all up again, it was fine inspiration @Teetengee- Thanks for the good words! One more done, eight to go. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy painting, it's quite addictive once you get going. A bit of Sister Superior action, again not the best photos but I'll nab a camera one day, probably, possibly, doubtfully. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/frurnt.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/soide.jpg Also the beginning of a Seraphim squad. Bjorn Firewalker
Impressive work. The wood grain on the boltguns certainly makes your sisters look distinctive, but the front sight post should be metal. bazazatron
Cheers for the kind words! Just a quick update today, I've been getting some painting in here and there in scant breaks from work but I managed to get the first seraphim modelled up, goggles ahoy! I've also just obtained a rhino and plasticard from the 'bay, so in the not too distant future some sort of repressive transport will be in the making. Onwards to the rubbish photos... http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/serapheeem.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/serapheeem%2002.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/301476-order-of-the-forgotten-vow-one-mans-descent-into-madness/page/2/#findComment-4012714 Share on other sites

bazazatron
Hooyah! Well it's been, let me scroll up and check..... almost four months since the last update.... I hadn't realised it had been so long but there has been progress in between work deadlines, life and all the usual excuses that I won't bore you with. The order finally has a proper name 'The Order Of The Forgotten Vow', vague half figured out fluff surrounding it entails a small part of a minor order lost in the warp for a good couple of thousand years, finding that their shrine world has fallen upon their return and renaming themselves in memory of their lost sisters. I'll add some more meat to it at a later date but I thought it was a nice way to explain their older looking armour and equipment. The first squad is also complete, took me a while to get back into the swing of painting but it's finally approaching something I'm happy with. Though if anyone knows of a good substitute for the ancient citadel rust brown wash from the early nineties that'd be grand as I'm almost out it, I'm amazed it was still usable when I cracked it open, they certainly don't make pots to last like that anymore. Anyhoo, pictures! http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sisters%2004.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2008.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2001.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2007.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2006.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2005.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2004.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2003.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2002.jpg I'm almost there on modelling a Seraphim squad as well, just two more to go for the time being. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sisters%2005.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Seraphim%20Superior%2002.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2010.jpg http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Sister%2009.jpg To finish off I've also started work on a Cannoness, because someone needs to be there to remind them that they march to the hymns of the Ecclesiarchy. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/cannoness%2001.jpg The eagle head is just temporary, I'm not too happy with it so I'm going to take some time and do a nice base from which she can bask in the Emprah's divine light. Think that's about it for now, see you in another four months! (I'll try and be a bit more regular than that, three months?) Aqui
Good to see you back! I don't think I've ever seen Bolters with wooden panels before I really like the Seraphim, the googles especially. bazazatron
@ Aquilanus - Cheers, lots of stuff has been getting in the way so it's good to be back on it. I did all the character models in my old S.O.B force with wooden guns years ago and thought I'd carry it through on all of them now, though looking at them I'm not sure about the safety aspect of having a wood clad melta gun and plasma pistol. These ladies clearly like to live dangerously. @Teetengee - Yeah they are a bit slipper like, I'll see how they fare with some paint on and hope for the best. Aqui
I'm not sure about the safety aspect of having a wood clad melta gun and plasma pistol. These ladies clearly like to live dangerously. Let's not forget that some Sisters decide to reject all armour, carry an over sized Chainsword into battle and fight up close and personal. Compared to that, a plasma or melta gun with a wood case is a bit safer...
