This almost regular updating is giving me the vapours, but onwards I shall press.

Finished up the Canoness which was particularly fun when right at the end I dropped her and had to administer repairs, curse my weak flesh claws!

After much rage, onwards to the crappy photos.

(I really need a better camera)

Now on to the third squad, though I feel a bit of terrain coming on which is always a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

What ho!

Just a quick update on this insufferable Monday that's hurting my brain. Sister Superior Anevay is done, next in line is the first part of the squad flambé section sans flamer. I'll be doing the heavy flamer in the next batch then it's all easy going (tempted fate here) afterwards, I like to get the ones which'll be a pain in the arse painting and modelling wise out of the way first.

Onwards to Tuesday!

@Warmasterwillie Cheers! Though the new Sister sculpts are done and apparently gathering dust in a sealed catacomb at GW HQ never to be unleashed onto the world for fear of sleeves, which is definitely true according to random vague interweb sources..... whistling.gif

@Brother Pheidias Thanks! They're slowly getting there.

@lionofjudah Very nice of you to say thank you. Ah I know about the hair, to be fair it's mainly that my rubbish phone camera either makes everything too dark or washes out all the highlights and shading. One day I will acquire a proper one and take better pictures!

Well It's been 4 months and as this is my version of regular tradition now dictates that it's time for an update. The order plods along with a speed comparable to a paperclip resupply requisition form put in to the Administratum;  This is mainly due to a few months of rather tight work deadlines, but who needs a social life anyway? Or sunlight. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo with my potatoe of one of the sisters before painting her but I'll blame that on sleep deprivation, that and I just forgot.  Onwards to the stuff!

First off I finished the sister with a flamer, I went for an Elysian one which may have been a mistake as they seem to be rarer than hen's teeth so anymore will have to wait until I can source that particular bit.

http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/flamer%2001_1.jpg   http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/flamer%2002_3.jpg

Next up  I decided to get the heavy done and dusted, I went for a heavy flamer as there really isn't enough pyro in this force so far and all they could do is burn heretics with witty quips and harsh language.

Blurry! I hate this phone.

http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Heavy%2001_1.jpg   http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/heavy%2002_1.jpg

Now she needed a way to carry a spare bottle of napalm so enter Terry the Cherub, who has a nice ecclesiarchical scarf on so he doesn't catch a chill, though he should be alright being near the heavy flamer. I've not finished painting him yet as he's a bit of a side project while I do the rest of the squad.

A version of grenade girl, this is the one I forgot to photograph before hand.

http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/grenade%2001_1.jpg

Have to say the photos really wash out and destroy any nuance in the painting, most irksome.

The next two mark a change in how I'm building these, I don't mind the squad having different methods as it's all learning. It's how I draw stuff too, if I figure out a better way to do something then I start using it immediately as consistency be damned!

Originally they were put together like the others, I use a thin layer of card as a base for the tabardy bits and constructed the chaplet doodah from tiny bits of plasticard which were a complete pain to cut out.

http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Original%2001_1.jpg  http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/Original%2002_1.jpg

All good so far, and then I undercoated them... With possibly the fluffiest, unpaintable surface imaginable so into the Dettol they went obliterating all of the hard work. Sod it, I thought, I'll do them better on the re-do. So now they have completely green stuff tabards which allowed for alot more movement in the cloth, and I managed to get a reasonable cast of a chaplet off of an old Seraphim I had knocking about which I think looks much better than the old ones. I also replaced the rope that usually held them with greenstuff chain that works better and tried a different look on the battle corset(?) so all in all victory from the jaws of defeat.

http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/bolter%2003_1.jpg   http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/bolter%2001_1.jpg   http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/bolter%2002_1.jpg

These photos are terrible, I might upgrade to a pinhole camera.

After finishing the last two I really wasn't happy with the shoulder pads anymore. The method I'd been using beforehand was quite convoluted, I'd cast up the shoulder pad itself one at a time and as the winged 'I' and fleur de lys were also separate casts I'd have a fiddly job of gluing them on and making a mess, I really wasn't happy with the 'I' either so I bit the bullet and sculpted new pads for each, I seem to have misplaced the masters but luckily I'd made moulds before they vanished.

http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/fleur_1.jpg   http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y357/lordwinchester/wings_1.jpg

Bit of a clean up and they look pretty good! Then I went mould crazy and have done the same with their legs to cut down on the build time. This is the first pair master, the cast comes out pretty well so eventually I'll have a load of them done with a more sisterly power armour look.

For good measure here's a shot of the squad so far.

So there we go, and after all that I think I need a lie down.

It's only been a month since the last update, this is almost bordering on regular I should slow down a bit....

I've three jobs on at the moment which isn't leaving much time for anything else but I did manage to get three sets of legs sorted and cast up. I also bit the bullet and decided to take another crack at sculpting some torsos that I could cast up as well, hoping that would save me a bit of time in general and allow me to add a bit more detail which I felt had been missing so far. Luckily it seems to have gone alright, I've gotten two done and I'm aiming to eventually have another two on top of that, paired with another set of legs that'll give me enough for sixteen combinations which will do for a bit!

Time for the now standard slightly rubbish photos.

Here's the first trial run after I'd put on the tabardy thing and some details, all good so far!

Then out of nowhere all four remaining squad members suddenly appeared.

Now I just have to find the time to paint them up and see how they look!

@KrautScientist- Thanks very much! I have to admit I've wondered if I'd carry on with these if they ever do finally get around to updating the Sisters or if I'd feel obliged to go with an official line. Though I'm enjoying the process so much I'd probably get new models just to purloin extras off of the sprue for mine! That and I like the idea of having a completely converted/scratch built army, even if it does take forever it's very satisfying.

@Luna707- Glad you like it! I wouldn't say no if they asked but I'm guessing the chances are slim to none :D I seem to remember that one of the problems they said they had was with the sleeves, and after trying to figure out how to cast them myself without them being a big blob I can fully understand why!

This has taken the top spot for my favourite hobby log of all time. The amount of work you have done so far is staggering but so very, very worth it. And the painting, despite the camera washing out the colours, is great! :tu:

Really can't wait to see more!

@ hushrong Glad you're enjoying it so far! I also had tears yesterday but mainly due to the super crap undercoat I applied to one of them, I changed over to army painter white undercoat and completely misjudged the distance required, cleaned it off all ok though so she lives to fight another day thankfully.

@ Dosjetka Thanks! I shall endeavour to update a bit more frequently than every few months or so. :D

@ Wraithwing Thank you!

@LySiMachus Cheers! I need to add a couple more to the Seraphim squad in the future, needs more fire! I'll probably do that next along with a Retributor squad and an Exorcist. Once I've finished up this current lot I'll take a group picture. I think this is the most I've ever painted for one army without getting distracted by something else, myopia must come with age.

I hate Army Painter's white primer/base coat. I have tried to use it three times (with two different, brand new cans) and they always clumped up on my minis. That stuff is also hard to remove so I ended up doing a bunch of research before buying Dawn Power Dissolver. I have used some of the red and purple primer/base coats and they worked like a charm but the white...I feel your pain.

Looking forward to more of these sisters being completed and a future army shot of them together.
