Hey all,

I am still relatively new to the 40K universe. About 3 years ago, a friend got me interested in the game and I've been slowly collecting bits and pieces for a Space Marine army. I hadn't done anything with it for awhile and about a month ago dug out my box and started poking around. First thing I did was finally decide on a chapter. Based on the section I am posting, you can guess what chapter I chose. Then I found out what I had. It turns out, I am very close to having a complete battle company. So I decided to model the 3rd battle company of the Imperial Fists. I went down to my FLGS and grabbed a couple boxes of those cheap space marines for paint practice and quickly cursed my decision. YELLOW SUCKS! I started out trying the "Citadel method", but found that to be too slow for my liking. Then I tried Army Painter color primer. While that achieved the results I wanted, it also went on very thick. Then I stumbled on some magic.....I spray a coat of Tamiya Surface Primer White, then hand brush a base coat of War Paint "Daemonic Yellow". The highlight colors are Citadel colors. Once I've finished that, I brush on a coat of Army Painter Soft Tone Quickshade and spray anti shine.

In this thread, I will document my progress.

Here is my Company Champion.

Thanks Stercus, I found the trick with the Quickshade isn't to "dip" it make they suggest but to brush it on. You get much better control over where it flows, it doesn't puddle as you often see on models that have been dipped, and most importantly....it doesn't choke out detail.

Alright, picked up the last of my tactical squads today.

These are the models I have currently -

Commander

Command Squad

Librarian

Chaplin

6X Tactical Squads

1 Dev Squad

1 Assault Squad

1 Rhino

I want to also add a dreadnaught and a venerable dreadnaught and the last couple of squads, not sure on support vehicles though.....any suggestions?

A very good start and welcome to the Fists!

You certainly have quite the force there. As for suggestions for support vehicles, my first choice (biased that it is) would be Land Raiders. I don't know how other people fair with them, but I love the models, love the fluff and in game (I always take them), they tend to do quite well.

Otherwise I have heard very good things about Thunderfire Cannons, if you can manage to get them or make them yourself.

Happy hunting!

Alright....I have a commander now! I finished this a couple days ago, but had some trouble with the flat coat.....it wrinkled really bad, but after a few days it laid down pretty well and you really have to have an eagle eye to see it on the model. Very happy with that!

Here is the 4th squad for 3rd battle company.

Squad 4

I printed the "Tactical Arrow" myself using Testors clear paper. I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt at making decals, though I think I might need to try printing them twice to get a darker black....they came out almost charcoal. All that is left on the squad is decorating the bases and adding scripture to the purity seals.

Well, I just picked up a box of goodies from a guy getting out of the hobby. I got a Predator, Whirlwind, Rhino, 2 Dreadnaughts, Ironclad Dreadnaught, 4 10 man tact squad, a Legion of the Damned squad and a squad of shooty terminators.....oh, and a land speeder (the scout one, whatever that is called). Unfortunately it looks like I need some bits for some of the vehicles to complete them.

Yeah, the problem is they were all painted as smurfs and whatever spray paint they used does not want to come off. I've soaked the models in Purple Power for a couple days and that stuff is on there.

Not sure what to do with the Legion of the Damned, I might just serve them up as trade fodder

I was going through the bits in that trade I mentioned above and realized I have the start of a second battle company on my hands. I've stripped off most of the smurf blue, and I'm debating if I want to go 2nd company gold or 4th company green

I think the gold is too close to yellow. I am just finishing up my third company and will post pics hopefully this weekend when it is done. I was planning on seventh reserve company for tacticals and ninth devastator company for heavy weapons. The 4th would also look good with the green trim. My thoughts were the reserve companies are to fill in when 1 battle company is not enough.

If you want to do 2nd co., you could use just straight up balthazar gold washed in purple or brown or gehennas gold in either purple or red.

I would post pictures since i have done Imperial Fists with gold detailing but im on my phone atm.

Edit: on my Pc now:

The aforementioned images. Granted, there is a decent amount of black/silver present to break up the Yellow as well as Green from the Laurels.
