1500 Pts Blood Angels vs Tau

OK, don't be shocked!  I'm not posting an Ultramarines Battle Report...yes, Blood Angels...it was a fun game - it is always a moment of anxiety when I start something new and out of my comfort zone.

Enjoy...

Thoughts?

The Librarian was not able to do much in the Psychic phase, I never got the warp charges up.  I may degrade him back to a Level 1, drop a few DC PWs, and then use the point saved to get the DC back to 10 Marines, and get MGs in the tac squads.  Might also consider dropping the DC jump packs if I'm going to deploy them via Stormraven.  I'm looking for a way to then squeeze a tac squad down and bring in a command squad...

Overall, I don't want to get too cocky...the tau player was clearly disappointed in the maelstrom card draws (as was I), and his gambit to grab the objectives to shut me out of cards is really the sources of his downfall.  I was benefiting from the good amount of terrain as well.

Congrats on clinching the win.

Just curious, why did you choose to drop your DC from the raven? My usual Tau oppo have a lot of intercept, and it seems risky in any case. Would you have gained from possibly having DC arrive on turn two and landing elsewhere?

Definitely drop all but one of those power swords :D Your army is very different to mine so I can't really advise on where to spend the points, but combined with the points from the Libby I really would recommend a 5-man ASM with 2 MG and 2 inferno pistols on the sarge, in a drop pod. 135 points meltacide squad.

I played my first games with the new dex at a tourny at the weekend and also found the whole psychic phase and powers to be generally ineffectual. So I?'m ditching libbys also.

Nice terrain BTW. Thanks for posting the batrep!

I agree with you.  Bringing in the DC and Dread in the Stormraven is a lot of points that can go in a flash!  I had a game vs an opponent in a big event (playing Ultramarines) where the Stormraven was delayed in reserves and when it finally entered, it was intercepted by an Icarus lascannon, 6 to hit, 6 to pen, 6 to explode!  Right now in the local meta, a lot of players are ignoring intercept for the moment, although many marine players have storm talons or drop pods.

I think the decision to deploy jump pack DC from a Stormraven is going to be situational.  If the terrain is sparse, starting the game with the DC on the table may weaken them too much.  If the terrain is thick, having them on the table may be just the ticket.  In my next battle report (just linked up this AM), the DC were crazy, taking out Khan and a bike squad, and later finishing off a terminator squad, MVPs for the game.  I was able to actually have them assault directly from the Stormraven, which will likely be a rare occurrence!

I will be trying out the meltacide squad soon!
