Servant of Dante
NEW INQUISITOR BELOW So I wrote this a while back, and I think it's halfway decent. I enjoy writing rules/fluff, and i'm wondering if there are others who share my aesthetic taste. The rules are completely untested, and the points cost is an estimate. I would appreciate any comments anyone has. If anyone is wondering, I heavily favor elite close combat lists (I lose a lot). I'm sure someone will dislike the chainswords, but I have always liked the idea of usefull chainswords, and here they are. FLUFFY STUFF Seartethel was born on Baal Prime in a tiny village of a few dozen people. When he was only 14, the Time of Challenge was called, and a herald of the Blood Angels chapter roared into to the village astride one of the costmary flying chariots. Many tried to convince Seartethel not to throw his life away on the trek to the Place of Challenge, across 100 miles of desolate rad deserts, and into the shadow of the mighty statue of Sanginius, but Seartethel set off all the same. He had no fear for his life, or doubt of his success. Over a month later (Terra based chronological period), Seartethel arrived at the Place of Challenge. Since the Time of Challenge occurs only once a generation, most of those at the Place were twice Seartethel’s age. Those who met him were immediately struck by his dearth of emotion. The only exception to this remarkable stoicism is one incident, more legend than fact, of a man who made a passing comment of a recent defeat suffered at the hands of Traitor Marines within earshot of Seartethel. They say the man was on his back with a broken neck before anyone realized what was happening. On the field of competition Seartethel fought with such rage and lack of concern for injury that some thought him akin to one in the throws of the Black rage. That may be closer to the truth than anyone would dare to believe. Soon, contenders over a decade older than him were in awe of the “Reaver Boy”. In spite of his young age, Seartethel was one of 53 chosen as an Aspirant to the Fortress Monastery of the Blood Angels Chapter on Baal proper. This occurred on date 3699476.M41 (Adeptus Administratum Archives, Adeptus Astartes, Current Chapters, 1st founding, Blood Angels, Time of Challenge). Seartethel is the one of only a handful of cases where an Aspirant who returns to consciousness during their one-year slumber inside the golden sarcophagi before they are opened did not emerge insane. The duration of his consciousness in these dark confines during his transformation into an Adeptus Astartes very from a few weeks to several months, depending on which account you read. When the chamber was opened, Battle Brother Seartethel is said to have spoken these words, “My strength grows as my enemy emboldens. My blood runs hot with hatred for their dynasty of traitors. May my blade pierce their heart, and my bullets sing the Emperor’s victory!” There is now an inscription bearing these words near the gate into the Tower of Amareo on Baal. Seartethel went on to serve a distinguished career as a Blood Angels Battle Brother, and was later promoted to the 1st company as a Vanguard Veteran. Over the three centuries he fought for the Shining Magnificence of the Emperor he developed a reputation as a master of chain weapons. Across a period of decades he crafted a pair of chainswords, which he called Sanguine Dawn and Traitor’s Bain. He carried these swords everywhere he went. During a particularly brutal campaign against daemonic forces in the Kakeron system (5000728.M41: Adeptus Administratum Archives, Adeptus Astartes, Current Chapters, 1st founding, Blood Angels, Campaigns) Battle Brother Seartethel began to show signs of the Black Rage. Over the next five years the psyche of the indomitable warrior was warn down, and finally broken. He joined the ranks of the Death Company. Seartethel was held in stasis aboard the Imperial Cruiser Bloodlight for several months, before being deployed against a contingent of Emperor’s Children Traitor Marines on the second moon of Daeperine (6000734.M41: See previous citation). There it seems Khorne, the Blood God, looked down from his throne and across the sea of blood, and saw Seartethel, and was pleased. In the midst of the battle, no one noticed when Seartethel disappeared into the warp. This coincided with the arrival of a Daemon Prince of Khorne on the planet, and the most crushing defeat of the Blood Angels in decades. After the battle, the daemons disappeared back into the Warp. The remaining Traitor marines were soon driven off the moon. As they surveyed the battlefield, one battle brother found a strange black sword amidst a pile of dead Death Company marines. The sword was taken back to Baal for examination. It seemed to emit a strange warp signature, which, to the amazement of the tech priests examining it, enabled it to nullify immaterial protection of seemingly any being, be they Adeptus Astartes or daemon. When the weapon was wielded in battle however, the warp field had another effect. It created a small fissure in the warp, and through it fell a lone Astartes warrior fighting a group of Khorne Berserkers. He was clad in black armor and covered in purity seals and scrolls. He fought with two roaring chainswords coated in the ichor of his foes. As he fought his way through the servants of the Blood God and toward the foes of the Blood Angels they hear him yell, “Horus, traitor to the Emperor, you shall die by my hand!” After the foes are slain, the mysterious warrior disappears in a flash of warp energy. The immediate reaction to the incident was to destroy the weapon, but since the Marine whom it summoned was obviously under the grim influence of the Black rage, it was brought before Brother Corbulo, head of the Sanguinary Priests of the Blood Angels. It is said that Corbulo has visions like Sanguinius before him. While studying the sword, Corbulo had a vision of a lone Marine in the midst of an endless sea of the cult of Khorne inside the warp. Oblivious to the hopelessness of his situation, he slays one after another. He strikes out against his foe with his voice too, though it is barely audible over the cacophony of a million million of his enemies. Corbulo wakes from his trance and is sure that this warrior is loyal to the Emperor, even though he is obviously at the mercy of the Blood God. In the 250 years since this incident, Corbulo has issued the sword to the most devoted Sanguinary Priest in his service. It is a great honor to wield the Black Blade of Seartethel, Reaver of Heretics. RULES The Black Blade of Searethel, Reaver of Heretics………………………………………250 points Any Sanguinary Priest may replace one of his weapons with The Black Blade of Searethel. This weapon may look out of place in the hands of a loyal Astartes warrior, but those who know it see it as a symbol of great devotion to Sanguinius and the Emperor. The Sword itself is made entirely of an unnaturally black metal, and is quite heavy. Its strange nature allows it to cleave through most any protection, material or otherwise. At the end of each assault phase in which the wielder of the Black Blade was in close combat roll a die and add the number of unsaved wounds inflicted by that model and its unit. On a seven or higher Seartethel is drawn from his eternal battle into realspace. Put him into play as if he were deep striking, centered on the wielder of the Black Blade (Ignoring the Decent of Angels special rule). If he would suffer a mishap, reduce the scatter distance by the minimum amount to prevent it. If preventing a mishap is not possible by reducing the scatter distance, then increase it by the minimum amount to prevent the mishap. If neither of these is possible, Seartethel does not come into play this turn. When Seartethel is drawn into realspace, a number of his tormenters manage to follow him. Roll 1d6+3 and put that many Khorne berserkers (no upgrades) into play in base contact with him. These Berserkers count as an enemy unit to both sides. They immediately fight a round of close combat. They stay locked in combat after the turn ends. If Searethel kills the Khorne Berserkers, he comes under the full control of the controller of the wielder of the Black Blade, even if the wielder is dead or dies. If the Khorne Berserkers kill Seartethel, they immediately vanish back into the warp. Having the Blood Angels player roll for Searethel, and his or her opponent roll for the Khorne Berserkers is one way of dealing with this situation, but is not required. The Black Blade has following profile. In addition, no invulnerable saves may be taken against wounds scored by the Black Blade. Str. +1 AP 3 Type Melee, Rending Seartethel, Reaver of Heretics……………………N/A points Does not take up a force organization slot WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv Seartethel 6 3 5 4 2 5 3 8 3+ Unit Composition: 1 (Unique) Unit Type: Jump Infantry Wargear: Sanguine Dawn Traitor’s Bain Jump Pack Power Armor Frag and Krak grenades Special Rules: Aura of Madness Black Rage Counter Attack Eternal Warrior Fearless Feel No Pain Furious Charge Preferred Enemy: Chaos Space Marines Relentless Survivor of One Thousand Wounds Warpbound Sanguine Dawn: Sanguine Dawn was the first of two chain swords crafted by Seartethel. It is blood red with gold teeth, and has the following profile. Str. +1 AP 4 Type Melee, Master Crafted Traitor’s Bane: Seartethel finished the creation of Traitor’s Bane almost a decade after he began the construction of Sanguine Dawn. It is white with gold teeth, and has the following profile. Str. +3 AP 6 Type Melee, Master Crafted Aura of Madness: Existing in the warp and fighting an endless hoard of Khorne Berserkers has extenuated the madness of the Black Rage shrouding Seartethel’s mind. This manifestation of the Black Rage fills those around him with the raw rage of Sanguinius. If any model would pass within 6” of Seartethel at any point in their movement, that unit must make a fear test before they move, or be frozen in terror this turn (this includes units attempting a charge into or near him). At the beginning of each player’s movement phase that player makes a leadership check for each of his units within 6” of Seartethel. If they fail they count as fleeing for this turn and automatically regroup at the end of the movement phase. Units within 6” of Seartethel cannot declare charges or fire snapshots. The experience of the Red Thirst allows all Blood Angels units a +1 modifier to all rolls caused by this special rule. Survivor of One Thousand Wounds: Centuries of eternal combat have taught Seartethel’s body to heal wounds with unnatural speed. At the end of each turn, if Seartethel was removed a casualty this turn, roll one die and subtract the number of times this roll has been passed so far this game. On a 4+ his body has healed itself enough to continue fighting. Return him to the board where he died with one wound. Warpbound: The unpredictable effects of the warp have conferred a 5+ invulnerable save upon Searethel. Thanks to anyone who read this entire thing! Servant of Dante
This is just what I have been waiting for. A reply! Time for another Character, this time an Inquisitor. I hope you enjoy! Inquisitor Marknæ, Executorius Solmnar Finaulmn In the Ordo Hereticus, there exists a man known only as Marknæ. No one knows for certain where he came from. This may have to do with the work of the shadowy Ordo he is a part of. The only certain truth surrounding Marknæ is that he is extraordinarily old. Stories of his fiery and absolute loyalty stretch back centuries into the mists of time. Rather than police the masses of the imperium, as most members of his Ordo do, Marknæ’s consummate purpose is the complete annihilation and erasure of all xenos, and more importantly, chaos, with utter compliance to the will of the Emperor. He considers any slip of the tongue, body, or mind the highest heresy, the beginnings of chaos, and deserving of no more than immediate and certain death. Only one detailed documentation of an action of Inquisitor Marknæ can be found in imperial records. It concerns the death of High Lord Sontar Donan, Lord Commander Militant of the Astra Militarum until date 2473783.M41. On that date, the Lord Commander was heading a strategic meeting on the flagging gains of the imperial response to a particularly vicious Ork Waaaaaaaagh! Donan made the unfortunate suggestion to the five score assembled officials and officers that a tactical retreat would be to their advantage. A man in a dark cloak rose from the back row and, in a deadly calm voice, spoke a single word. “Heresy.” A split second later, the Lord commander was dead on the floor with a bolt squarely between his eyes. To fight beside Marknæ is to witness destruction. Many fear his presence, and rightly so. He tolerates no less than perfection in those around him, and knows no punishment besides a summary bolt to the condemned’s skull. This has earned him the title Executorius Solmnar Finaulmn, meaning Extinguisher At The End Days. His preferred weapon is the unique bolt pistol, Voca Exterminatum. When faced with a foe close at hand, he draws the mighty red mace Carkvarus. “How does one serve the Emperor whilst He is entombed in the Golden Throne? One must follow His everlasting will. One must never speak, act, think, or breathe against His Divine Wisdom. One must never flee from the enemies of the Emperor, lest all of humanity be lost to heresy and chaos. When any person breaks any of the edicts of the Emperor or commits any other form of heresy, no matter how subtle, how insidious, it must be uncovered, and the perpetrator put to a swift end. Those not of human blood are the more evident enemy. The work of the Great Crusade must be completed; the Xenos exterminated once and for all, Imperium eternal under the Emperor of Mankind. Far more menacing than the Xenos are the insidious works of chaos, the fruits which heresy have wrought. We must repay Horus for his transgressions and those of his followers, and stamp out the threat to Holy Terra and the Immaculate Body therein held. May the Glorious and Magnificent Emperor rule the Imperium for all time, and may his foes crumble under the might his holy forces and fleets.” -Inquisitor Marknæ, Excutorius Solmnar Finaulmn Inquisitor Marknæ, Excutorius Solmnar Finaulmn…240 points An army containing Marknæ may ally as normal with the Armies of the Imperium, and may otherwise ally only with Eldar and Tau, and only using the Come the Apocalypse rules. (I'm not sure if this is what I want... I don't have a 7th edition rulebook. If you can't ally with come the apocalypes in 7th, substitute Desperate Allies for Come the Apocalypse) Marknæ WS 5 BS 8 S 5 T 4 W 3 I 4 A 2 Ld 10 Sv - Unit Composition: 1 (Unique) Unit Type: Infantry Wargear: Arc of Imperium Imortalis Carvarus Frag, Krak, and Phyk-Out Grenades Voca Exterminatum Special Rules: Adamantium Will Crusader Eternal Warrior Fanatical Command Preferred Enemy: Chaos Daemons, Chaos Space Marines, Dark Eldar, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Tau, Tyranids Zealot Arc of Imperium Imortalis: the arc is an ancient precursor to the Iron Halo. Over the millennia, its machine spirit has become particularly adept at blocking the blows of the bearer’s foes. It confers a 3+ invulnerable save upon the bearer. Voca Exterminatum: Voca Exterminatum is an ancient, golden, pistol-like weapon covered in ornate scrollwork that was forged by the tech priests of Mars before the Wars of Unification. Its ammunition is crafted off of a single STC printout deep within Mars. While similar to standard bolts, these rounds have a much more potent armor piercing ability due to their charged exteriors. This function is similar to the system utilized by the ubiquitous power fist. They also contain sickleblade explosive, giving them capacity to wound even the fiercest of foes. The weapon’s name was bestowed after it became the primary weapon of Inquisitor Marknæ. It has the following profile. Range 12" Str. 4 AP 3 Type: Assault 4, Rending Carkvarus: This mace was crafted by Marknæ himself, presumably upon his initiation as a full member of the Inquisition. Its blood red head seems to glow with an inner fire out of its ceramite hilt. Carkvarus is a master crafted power maul. Fanatical Command: Marknæ unshakable loyalty to the Emperor is evident to all who stand in his presence, friend or foe. He hesitates not to kill any who show the smallest hint of doubt in the truth or success of the mission of the Imperium of Man. If any friendly unit within 12” of Marknæ fails any leadership test or does not attempt to charge an enemy unit if there is one with 6” of them at the beginning of the assault phase, Marknæ automatically shoots Voca Exterminatum at that squad, if he has line of sight and is not in close combat. This shooting occurs in exactly the same way as in the shooting phase. Any unit that has at least one model killed in this manner gains the Redemtium special rule if they do not already have it. Redemtium: A unit with this special rule fights to regain their honor as Imperium soldiers. They gain the Fearless and Furious Charge special rules, and if they end the movement phase within 12” of an enemy unit that can be charged, they cannot shoot any weapons except those with the Assault or Pistol types this turn. Any weapons they do shoot must be shot at an enemy unit that can be charged and is within charge range. They must attempt to charge that enemy unit this assault phase. Once again, Thanks!
