Shinobi Posted January 20, 2015 Author Share Posted January 20, 2015 Actually, it's just flat Abaddon black with some Lhamian Medium to water it down.I paint the whole model Leadbelcher, drybrush with Runefang Steel.Wash it with Nuln oil and once dry reikland flesh shade, followed by a new drybrush of Runefang Steel.Then I just apply the watery Abaddon black to all the surfaces I want black.Once done I use a sponge to dot out some runefang steel onto the model, wash the black areas nuln oil and reikland flesh shade, then using a sponge for more silver.This is not my recipe, got it from War Gear on facebook. The paint recipe is pretty brilliant and produces excellent results: I especially like the Raptor with the Eye of Horus on his breastplate. What really stands out to me is the Chaos Lord, though: Such a deceptively simple but excellent conversion -- very nice! Which parts was the head spliced together from? I am guessing CSM rebreather head for the bottom and bearded Chaos Marauder head for the upper half? Still a WIP but you can see the black for the most part. Ive always struggled with black because with all of my reds for my blood angels I edge highlight and I just think it looks terrible with black. When i first saw your mini's i was trying to figure out if the black was just a plain coat + weathering, rather than subtle edge highlighted. It looks very good. Although the picture is not up to date. I should be posting more painted miniatures soon as I just signed up for a tournament, and chose to play Black Legion. So I got some work to do now...
