Daemon2027
What does the Primarch ask of us?Everything Effrit Prime Alpha --- Ever since I read Legion I have loved the Alpha Legion, from the moment the Legionaries turn up to save Joker (after using them as bait), and we hear the immortal line 'I am Alpharius' I was hooked on the XXth, and in my mind I have formed a mental image that has only been enhanced by Forge World. However, every time I try to bring my ideas across on models I fail, well I ussually get distracted. But, having recently sold most of my models, I can concentrate more what I am doing. Hopefully.I love the idea of the Effrit Stealth Team, none of the flashiness, none of the arrogance, none of the honour, just the mission. From Extermination I am taking the Effrit more as a specific activity, rather then a set squad. My theory is, any Alpha Legionaire could be classed as Effrit. The Legionares who fought beside Joker squad could have been on an Effrit mission, although it was more then likely to be the ones burning the city, the team that went into the Tenebrae facility were Effrit, those on the Ominissax were Effrit. Omegon is of course the commander being the ultimate expression of the Effrit squad, the Legions biggest secret, thier biggest deceit, a physical manifestation of thier stealth, thier lies, thier mantra.Above is the start of my Effrit Strike Team. Rules wise he is a Legion Champion, and will be joined by a Headhunter team and a close quarters Contemptor. Ive tried to mould realism in terms of gear, and the fantasy element that runs through the 30k universe. Joining them will be Exodus, I ussually dislike using special characters but he is the only way I can have a character with a sniper rifle, a Sniper team, and a contemptor set up for long range (conversion Beamer more then likely). And from there, we will see, but I hope to evolve the force naturally.Painting will start tomorrow, from where I hope the tone of my force will develop. From this initial step I hope a Legion will rise.Hydra Dominatus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302480-effrit-strike-force/ Share on other sites
blackoption
Forgive the question, but why not run him as a Vigilator? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302480-effrit-strike-force/#findComment-3929947 Share on other sites
PastelAvenger
Lovely model really like what you've done with the parts and the sculpting but I've got to agree with blackoption why not a Vigilator? That would work so much better with a squad of Headhunters. Errr, mainly because I didn't put that much thought into it, although the 'has to challange rule' of the Legio Champ does strike the right note in terms of the Alpha Legion need to prove themselves against the enemy. A sort of, 'I've outmanoeuvred you, out thought you, now I'm going to cut you down like your nothing'. PastelAvenger
Again beautiful model, I'm starting my own Alpha Legion and I'm planning on running a Vigilator. Daemon2027
Again beautiful model, I'm starting my own Alpha Legion and I'm planning on running a Vigilator. Thanks, you could also run a Saboteur, which is like a Vigilator, although they can't join units. Not all assassins kill from a distance. Sgt Maesan was pretty skilled with the blade... Precisly, also I have a few thematic ideas I want yo run through the army, such as twins. Initially there will be 2 leads, a Legion Champion, and Exodus, a close range killer, and a sniper, both are skilled at killing, but do it in a different way, like thier twin Primarchs, one is the face of the legion, the other is in the shade. Effrit Prime above is not just a sword men, he also has bolter with banestrike bolts, venom spheres, and, as well as a master crafted power weapon, he has a power dagger. Daemon2027
Awful picture time, there is direct light shining on the model but it's as good representation of the colour as I'm going to get at the moment. I am wondering if I should darken the armour a little more? Been thinking on markings, instead of the ussual Chained Alpha and Hydra symbol I was thinking of using an Omega, possibly with a chain through it? I was also thinking of assigning a numeral and lowercase greek letter to each model, identifying the Legionarire and thier squad, but I'm not sure on how to indicate the Primes rank. I thought maybe the uppercase Pie symbol to indicate Prime, and a lower case Alpha to indicate his designation. Of course the left shoulder pad could show a hydra. Also not sure on colouring, I'm thinking if I can get the right shade of green it wouldn't stand out to much and might add a little more contrast on the armour (which has had a green wash). Brother Vidius
Really like the colour you've got on there. Beautiful model as well. The Omega idea sounds interesting, I'd go with that! Slips
A little point of fluff contention that, honestly, you could 100% ignore Because Alpha Legion, is that the Effrit Stealth Squads were all painted Black. Daemon2027
Thanks, you know the pic really isn't a great representation, the direct light is artificially making the colour lighter. I'll have to get grab a pic in daylight, although im working tomorrow. On future models I will try to blend the colours a bit better but I need a better lamp set up in my room. Also, in Serpents Beneath the Legionares have their purple shade armour, and there is no specific mention of the colour in Extermination. Also I'm taking Effrit as mission action rather then a set squad, hence sticking with a more typical Alpha Legion armour colour. I almost went black with a Sotek edge highlight, mimicking thier 40k scheme somewhat. Excessus
In The Serpent Beneath they have cloaking devices to blend in with humans in a city while looking for the mechanicus guy. Also, in the past, maybe not the Effrit squad per se but Alpha Legion as a whole, while doing black ops, were sometimes operating under "false flag". Nothing stops them from doing the same now, as has been shown multiple times since then... Daemon2027
Aye i have a few idea to do the false flag thing down the line. Plus, I plan to include human operatives to. Cthulhudreamt
Maybe another blue glaze with a dab of black wash to deepen the color? Looks very nice as is, but I understand your desire for "stealthy" power armor. Of all the Legions I always envision the Alpha Legion with no markings, just a base color scheme. I wouldn't put it past them painting their armor to match other legions during the heresy to infiltrate them, either. I am tempted by either a blue or black wash just to darken, but it is hard because in normal light the model is quite dark. Been to tried (just working early shifts which means getting up at a rediculous time to get the bus) so havent had the energy to paint in the last few days. I will be ordering some Legion Tartaros legs on firday so can start work on my headhunters. Daemon2027
So I decided to darken, and also add bit more blue. I need to go back and smooth out the colour a bit, but I like the darker effect. The pics does bath the model in a bit of shadow though so it's a bit darker then real life Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/302480-effrit-strike-force/#findComment-3934085 Share on other sites
