Barren Wastes

So I started my tester tile for the barren wastes here's my step by step.

Step 1

Get a tile, I let mine soap in a simple green bath for 48 hrs before I started

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-30%2021.34.48_zps4ukvsfqd.jpg

Step 2

Prime with Vallejo grey primer

Forgot to photograph this part

Step 3

Airbrush GW mournfang brown at a 25% mix ratio to vallejo airbrush thinner, mix it thoroughly to stop clogging.

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-30%2021.34.12_zpsfuhbrv1o.jpg

Step 4

Airbrush GW gothor brown at a 25% mix ratio to vallejo airbrush thinner, mix it thoroughly to stop clogging. Lightly apply it to the raised areas across the board and do multiple passes around the broken stone region

Step 5

Using vallejo sepia shade apply a thinned down mix (I used distilled water) over the entire board, apply heavily to the broken area.

Step 6

Dry brush Zandri dust over the skulls

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-31%2009.33.06_zpsvjj6w3hf.jpg

Step 7

Dry brush tallaran sand over the skulls

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-31%2009.33.32_zps0ynrx6kh.jpg

Step 8

Dry brush ushbati bone over the skulls

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-31%2009.34.01_zpslpvxdbzi.jpg

Step 9

Dry brush screaming skull over the skulls

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-31%2009.34.29_zpsgw1bi36d.jpg

Step 10

Wash the skulls with reikland flesh shade

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-31%2009.51.44_zpskmllarqw.jpg

awesome! can't wait to see some stuff =) are you going to buy some forgeworld rob-boards (thunderhawk f.e) or zone-mortalis too?

I have already purchased the crashed thunderhawk and strongpoint boards from FW for the barren waste boards

Each board will be 2ftx2ft

Edit: replaced step 4 photo with right photo

@brotherSP- mate I'm keen if you swing buy ;) maybe you will delve into the depths of heresy alongside us on the mainland

@argent aquila- there's much more to come.

So I gave it a satin finish and ive got to say I'm happy with it so I'll replicate this over the next 3 tiles.

But an issue has been identified

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-01-31%2017.04.37_zpsibcfwsrm.jpg

it seems that whilst this was drying the fiance picked up and moved the tile and freaked out when the fleshshade ran down the board, she tried to clean it but it's left a streak mark.

I told her it's fine but she's upset.

So work on the stronghold is underway;

Step 1-

Get your tile (I got mine from forgeworld)

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-06%2018.07.02_zpsdyojri8q.jpg

Step 2-

Before priming I decided to hit to stronghold with army painter platinum silver.

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-06%2018.05.55_zpshfologdk.jpg

Step 3-

Apply white primer over the non stronghold areas

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-09%2018.25.55_zpsd1ci3tas.jpg

Step 4-

Airbrush 50/50 mix of mournfang brown

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-09%2018.26.12_zpsxketarhe.jpg

Step 5-

Layer gothor brown at a 25/50 mix

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-09%2019.30.57_zpssxgwbspz.jpg

Step 6-

Spray vallejo sepia shade

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-09%2019.31.16_zpsevfcap2y.jpg

Step 7-

Pick out the concrete sections with storm vermin grey

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-09%2020.41.12_zpsvw2dieda.jpg

and that's where I'm currently at, tomorrow after work I'll continue and finish this tile.

Hope everyone is enjoying this project

This is such a good thread to watch. I'm going to have to work out how I'm going to be painting the board I'm currently working on at some point in the near future. Though I'll be using a hairy brush rather than airbrush. ;)

Will follow your example, document it all and put up a run through.

Thanks SW1, I can't wait to see your project progress & honestly I got no clue what I'm doing I'm just winging it.

And speaking of winging it here's the last type started today at 4 am aest.

But I'm off to work so in 12 odd hours I'll update again;

Stage 1-

Get yourself a flying brick

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-06%2018.07.38_zpslrtne1ob.jpg

Step 2-

Spray the metallic areas of the brick with platinum silver

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-06%2018.06.23_zpscyf97b7h.jpg

Step 3-

Airbrush vallejo steel blue over the non fuselage areas.

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-11%2005.43.38_zpsbclqsgtj.jpg

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-11%2005.45.00_zpscatutiyf.jpg

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-11%2005.45.55_zps3rv6cwuz.jpg

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-02-11%2005.45.27_zpsbdyija4y.jpg

Now I have left some exposed plate area to be coloured white but that will be in the next update

That's the same compressor I use its fine but I re com end either stocking up on cheap air brushes or investing in an Iwata or badger brush.

So much better when you have nice things to battle on
